| Shhhhh :) Pixel is with me at work bouncing around ON my desk all excited to be here. Nobody tell him the reason he is here is because we are leaving in 3 minutes to go to the vet for SHOTS! LOL Thanks again for all your advice. I'm nervous about his first boosters and hope he does okay with no reactions, but at least he'll be with me all day at work so I can see if something goes wrong. I'm holding off on the rabies for 3 weeks thanks to your advice. Mommy is a little more nervous than baby! lol |

| Well, the vet said he SHOULD get lepto and the flu shot (included in distemper) and bordatella even though these aren't core because he does come into contact with other dogs at the park, hiking, etc. She did however let me split them up so he got all today but the lepto and bordatella, which he is scheduled for 3 weeks from now. Is this ok??? Thanks AprilLove and Mom to Hot Rod! He seems REALLY happy now that he's back at work with me and no longer at the mean place that hurts him LOL |

| She said it isn't the parainfluenza shot because I would have definitely said no on that, but said it's a flu shot that comes with the distemper. I know everyone says no lepto or bordatella and I told her that, but she said since he goes to doggy daycare and the park and is often around other dogs, the benefits outweight the risks. So should I cancel that appointment then? The only thing left is bordatella and lepto. She said bordatella is in the nose and has VERY minimal reactions in dogs. |

| I forgot to thank you AprilLove Thanks for the info. I had actually already seen that and even printed it out and gave it to my vet when we were discussing what to give him. |

| I personally would rethink giving him lepto. The vaccination's effectiveness doesn't outweigh the risks IMO. Vaccination against Leptospira interrogans is only available for the serovars called canicola, grippotyphosa, pomona and icterohaemorragiae. (Some vaccines cover all four serovars while others cover only two out of four.) As a result of long standing use of this vaccine, it is hard to assess how important it is to vaccinate against leptospirosis. Most recent outbreaks involve serovars for which vaccination does not exist. CanineLeptospirosis |

It sounds like your vet plans to give the lepto, bordetella and rabies in three weeks all at the same time. I would definitely advise against that. Rabies shots also have a pretty high risk of a reaction and should always be given separately from the other vaccinations. What sort of health guarantee did you get with Pixel? Some breeders actually have it written into their contract that lepto vaccinations may not be given. | |

| Thanks for the help ladymom Don't worry about the rabies though, I made sure to split those up (thanks to all of you guys here). So today he got rabies, parvo and distemper and in 3 weeks he will get the lepto and bordatella (if we decide to do it). |

| Thinking of both Pixel and Mommy and hoping all goes well today. So glad Pixel gets to have a special 'at work' playday with mom Quote:

| ladymom - I forgot to answer your last question. He was actually a rehome and is a yorkie/chi mix, so there were no breeder requirements. It shows me how serious it is though if some breeders require you not get the lepto. I will definitely be discussing all of this in further detail with the vet in a few weeks when we go back. Thanks! Thanks YorkieMom6! He did great at the vet - didn't even cry when he got the shots, but did shake the whole time - mommy's little baby lol He's been laying quietly on my desk watching me type for the past half hour now - such a good boy Yeah, this site is so great and full of such wonderful information!! |

| I can say that I had 3 different vets tell me that the lepto shot was not something they would recommend.
