I am interested to know... Where does everyone usually find their YTs. I know here in Montgomery, AL..I could not find a breeder ANYWHERE. I even looked into the Pensacola area where I am originally from. I looked for about 6 months. That is why I ended up adopting Bentley from another state on puppyfind.com. Thanks! |
I got Bentley from a breeder in middle Tennessee, Lexi (and Saturday Chloe :D) from a breeder in Georgia, and Karlee is a rehome from Kentucky. All over the place! LOL |
Oh wow! haha I really wanted to be able to pick my baby from a litter and actually meet face to face with the breeder but I just could not find anyone! I wanted a Yorkie and would not settle for anything less so I just purchased him the hard way |
We have plenty of local breeders here. I bought mine from a breeder 1hr and a 1/2 away |
Well I actually became really good friends with the breeder in Middle Tennessee. It is about 3 1/2 hours from me so I can't go all the time, but I have spent a weekend with her family and plan to go next weekend. The breeder in Georgia I have met and talk to frequently. She is wonderful and that is why I decided to get another furbaby from her. Locally it is really hard to find a good breeder here too. But at least they are not TOO far away. :D |
I was lucky to find a breeder 10 minutes away. She is well known and I was referred by family of a friend. |
I found mine through the internet after looking for like 7 months!! I swear the Lord led me to her :) But she ended up being about 45 minutes away. |
WOW that's lucky! |
Yay another Pensacolian! I went to ytca.org and I found some breeders, one that seemed really sweet was Gina Pierce of Georgins yorkies she is in alabama also I love the look of Starshine Yorkies breeder Chris is in Alabama too. Both breeders show and really seemed to be great . I wish I had found them first. |
I purchased Sophie from Sarah at Yorkies of Walnut Hills in Missouri. I looked at other puppies here and there and they are were all cute but when I saw a video of Sophie and her litter mates I fell in love. She was THE ONE and still is :D!! |
I am in Cullman AL!!! And I know of a breeder you DO NOT want to go to. Peggys Poodles, Peggy Burden I got one of my little yorkies from her and she has been sick from the day I have gotten her. |
I found Fancy over the internet after looking for several months. It was divine intervention - I had went to see a different puppy a few days before and I wasn't sure about that one or the breeder and then I found Fancy from another breeder and I went to see her and wound up getting her right then and there - it was love at first sight for both of us!:p Come to find out my husband was going to surprise me with the other puppy that I was unsure about but I bought Fancy before he did. I had looked at a couple of other puppies and a full grown yorkie a couple months before that but there was something not right about those situations either. I'm so glad I didnt just buy the first one I found and waited until I met Fancy. I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world! January 22nd will be one since I got her! |
Wow!!! I am so glad you all found your babies near home!! It is SO important to get your pick of the litter and see the baby before you get him/her. I wish I could of done that! When I decide to get another YT I am going to search longer and not get one until I see a litter. I had just gotten to the point where I felt like I could not wait any longer and I needed my baby with me, so I got him. I hope he will be small enough..I LOVE bigger dogs but one thing that attracts me to Yorkies is their tiny size and playful energy. My baby, Bentley, that I am picking up tomorrow at the airport is 4 and a half inches tall and he is a little chubby because the breeder feeds the babies too much. |
There are great breeders on this :aimeeyork site! I would take the time to do research and check them out when you are looking for your next baby. Being on here you can also talk to people who have bought their Yorkies from some of the member breeders on here. You will also see pictures of how these puppies grow into beautiful Yorkies and learn about their quality and health. Oh, you may still have to travel to pick up that next baby too! Good luck with your first new baby, Bentley! |

I got Gizmo in 2004 from two ladies here in Morristown that I found out about through a lady who I worked with. They were really nice ladies, but byb's I am sad to say. I got Tenci from the pet store in our mall in 2007. I had heard bad things about pet stores, but did not know about puppy mills at that point (before YT) Got Trouble from a dear friend after I lost Gizmo in 2008. He came from Moonlight Kennels in Sparta MO I found and fell in love with Chip in 2008, ended up getting him, his brother Gus, and later on Pee Wee from Anita Porter in Oklahoma. We have Since became good friends. I was lucky enough to get Haley this past Dec from a sweet lady in Flordia. So I guess mine have came from all over the place too. |
:DI got my Pixie from a breeder in RI and I just think she is the greatest!! She has a website called yorkiesmakeyourheartsmile and she truly cares about her animals and always answers any questions. She took plenty of time with me when I was decideing on my puppy. I still keep in contact with her and ask questions as they arise and I even send her pictures of Pixie. |
I asked my vet if they knew of a breeder, and they did. They recommended her. It worked out great. :aimeeyork Donna |

I live in Las Vegas, and I got onto the AKC reccomended Yorkie website to find a breeder in my area. I emailed both of the breeders listed, and never got a response! I was so upset that I figured I would start searching the web. That's how I came across my breeder that I finally ended up choosing (Southeast Texas Yorkies). Obviously, she's in Texas, and even though I can't see the pups, she has flooded me so much information and so many pictures that I just love her to death, and I can't wait to bring my baby home in a few short weeks! And I love even more that she's a member on YT as well! |

I tell you what I am a yorkie breeder 27+ yrs. and under no circumstances would I ship a puppy anywhere. How could anyone do that. That is like putting my kid in a box and shipping it somewhere first off. Wow! To tell you the truth I would not do business with someone that cares that little about that baby to ship it off to GOD knows where like it is a product. You have no idea what the coat really feels like, the true personality, the gate ( how it walks). You are buying a part of your family through someone you no nothing about and never met that is just way to scary. So, I advise AKC breeder referral, your local vet, people you meet that owns a nice looking yorkie, and of course here. You do not want to get a baby and the rest of its life it is sickly and a very poor representation of the breed. |

I got My Shay from a breeder in New Tazwell, about 40 min from me...I saw her name on AKC Breeders...and she had one left, I went that day and fell in love... I found Bella, from posting on here.....it was a lil over 2 hour ride.....Betty is wonderful! So was very fortunate 2 from TN.. |
MissJ2007, Bella and I live in Navarre so we are not far from you. |
RoscoesMommy42, does the breeder in Middle Tennessee have a web site? I got my Yorkie from a lady who raises them in her home, she had an ad in the newspaper (West Tennessee). We love Abby and wouldn't trade her for any other puppy, but if I ever get another Yorkie I would do it differently. Abby's tail was cropped too short so it doesn't really stand up, just out a little bit. She also had a hernia that we had to have repaired, and she is a little larger than advertised, and she sells her puppies when they are only 8 weeks old. I have learned SO MUCH reading this forum, I wish I had known about it before I bought Abby. But, luckily, she is healthy and happy! |
Fortunately I have two very well known breeders near me, I got Alfie from the first and the breeder of my first show girl. Rosie we got from couple who'd bred their bitch [pet] and were advertising them on the internet, but also local [half hour] to me. |
I just saw your post and noticed you were picking him up at the airport. I am in the process of getting a puppy from Arizona and I live in Georgia. How did you handle the shipping, what airline did you use? I am so worried about doing the safest thing. |
