Omg Oh my...the little stinker hates to be brushed!

Peanut doesn't like ot be brushed...he wiggles, squirms, bites at the brush or comb, whines and growls at me! Now, he's only 4 pounds so I'm not too scared but my goodness...I'm used to my chunky butt girls and I'm not sure how to handle this little bitty thing without risking hurting him because he wiggles so much!

I don't have a grooming table...I just use a wooden t.v. tray with a gripper underneath a towel for the boys since they are so small. He doesn't have tangles, his coat is silk and I use Maden brushes and combs. I don't press down with any pressure at all and my girls love their brushes...I guess Peanut just doesn't like the feel of them on his skin?

Everytime he whines or twists around so I get away from that spot I tell him 'no' and he just smiles at me. Do you know what that little smile does to me? I'm being manipulated...aren't I?

Any suggestions?

My lil stinker hates to be brushed as well.
I have found that if I put her on the counter or bathroom sink with a towel in it and brush her she is better. She bites and squirms but if she is on the counter or sink she does better. I brush her every day in hopes she will get use to it. Good luck..........oh I also give a treat when we are all done and tell her how pretty she looks.

Sophie never liked the brush much either or she thought I was playing with her. Sophie is also 4 lbs.. I use the bathroom counter top with a towel under her. I tell her to sit then I hold a treat in one hand and brush her with the other hand. The trick is to only let her nibble at it so she stay seated quietly. She no longer wiggles around and actually doesn't mind getting brushed now at all.

Shayna has hated it since the begining, but she has improved over the last year. I used to have to wait until she was asleep to do it in the beginning. Now, it's a lap thing for us, no fancy brush and no real matts (unless she wears a shirt). Twice a day, every day with treats after if she is good (a real motivator). She know what to do when it's "Pretty Girl time", lots of praise and treats. Good luck, it gets better with time.

I have to give Frisco something to chew also, anything, he keeps messing with the comb even though I try to be as unobtrusive as I can. He doesn't fall asleep anymore. Mostly he HATES me messing with his bangs or whiskers so I save them for whenever I can sneak or outmaneuver, and I scruff him up in some other way, like how they pinch you before giving you a needle at the doctor, to confuse your nervous system. And it seems to help when I can do him a once-over first with a big brush, then get picky about details after I know where they all are.

Anyway it's become a new wrassling game I think. I try to mother-roll him on the couch, with my nose, and elbows... I need two hands to get the tangles! In the end it will be either a bonding experience or a declaration of independence.

What happens if a yorkie is left to get all matted up? Is there a yorkie de-tangler product?

For some reason Hot Rod started to not like getting brushed. He never really used to mind it but lately he runs as soon as he knows Maggie is finished and it will be his turn. I have to get up and go and pick him up then he lays down when I'm trying to brush him out. He wiggles so much when I am trying to do his face. He doesn't mind getting his eyes cleaned, just brushed/combed out.

I just do it as gently as possible and hold on tight when I'm doing his underneath as he'll try and take off. They both get treats after and he's all for that! lol

Oh gosh it all has to be done with military presicion doesn't it.

1. Collect all tools needed, eg brush, comb, treats, detangling spray etc

2. Place feet firmly on the ground (yours, not your dog's)

3 Hold comb in mouth, brush in one hand, detangling spray in other and then make sure treats are within easy reach.

4. You are ready to go...............

oops it helps if you have already placed dog on table.

Hmmmm I think I know where I'm going wrong, will have to re think this one.

Kacee likes to be brushed until I run into a tangle. Then I get out the mean, metal comb. She doesn't like it at all. If the tangle is anywhere near her face, then I know we're going to have trouble because she will keep moving her head so I can't get it.

Maddie and I both love the groomer she goes to. My Maddie will leap out of my arms to get to her. The groomer is very good about showing me things and giving me tips. If only they worked for me! When I asked her about being able to comb out Maddie's face area, she just showed me. She caught hold of the hair under her bottom jaw, got her comb and combed all around. Maddie never moved or even squirmed to get away. Just stayed perfectly still like a little lady. Fast forward a couple of days and I try it. I hold the hair and Maddie twists her face around and away from me like I was going to set her fur on fire!!!! I didn't grab, didn't pull, wasn't holding too close. I have in the past resorted to putting my finger across the lower jaw inside her mouth to hold her face still and quickly combing out a side at a time. When I finally am able to somehow comb her face, she puts her face down and rubs her face with her paws or rubs her face on the towel to muss it all up and then just looks at me like "whatcha think about this look? this what you were going for??"

Smile Brush Followed by Treats

I began brushing Bella a little at a time when she was tired in the evening and cuddling before bedtime. I would brush one part of her body and say it's name over and over. Then I would give her a treat and keep saying how beautiful she was. Pretty soon, she would let me do each part as I named them. I just kept increasing the number of parts until I did her entire body. She then gets a treat and lots of praise when I'm done. I'm now trying to get her to come when I show her the brush. Wish me luck!
