| Jewels being protective Today my neighbor came over to get my daughter so she could play with her daughter. Alexa Rae (my daughter) didnt have shoes on so my neighbor picked her up to carry her. Jewels my little 4 lb yorkie started growling and biting on my neighbors shoes. We were shocked Jewels has never bitten before and is nonaggressive normally. The only thing we can figure out is that she was being protective cause my neighbor picked up Alexa Rae. Needless to say both of my dogs are now going to go to a training class. Have any of your dogs ever behaved this way?

| Buckeye has.. my husband was giving my grandson a kiss and buckeye was on his lap and that was the one and only time Buckeye has snapped at anyone. He didn't hurt him at all. my husband will pretend to smack my arm and buckeye will come over to me and hug me. but nothing like the nip episode. He probably is just protecting your daughter. did she reach down and pet him? maybe that will help to let him know that your neighbor is not there to harm. of course, let this be known that i (for sure) am not the person to answer behavior problems. my 2 run my life. I am curious to see what someone else says about it.

| I think he was protecting your daughter, They may be small, but they think they are very big.

| YES! We have had this ongoing behavior issue with Pippa. If she is sitting on my lap or near me and my husband leans in to give me a kiss or the kids come over to hand me something, she leaps up snarling at them. At first we were like "oh, look at the cute little guard dog", but it became a problem quickly. We don't want her acting like the Tazmanian Devil! I've been watching "The Dog Whisperer" (I'm an addict) and there was a little chi that did the same thing. Cesar Milan said it was because the dog feels he "owns" the person. What we have started doing is everytime she does this, I show my dominance by putting a firm hand on her scruff and holding it there until she becomes "calm/submissive". I have had to be consistent about it and she is much, much better. The only time she does this is if she's startled. As for it being your little girl....I don't know what you should do-if anything. I don't think I would let it escalate like it did at our house. Jewels thinks Alexa Rae is HER human!

| I do think that Jewels was trying to protect your daughter. Schatzie has done the same with two visitors out of many in our home. I often have wondered what it is she didn't care for with the two visitors?? (one is a man, the other a woman)

| I haven't noticed Bo being agressive in protecting us against another human but he is so jealous if we give Woody any attention. We do correct him. I plan to get another yorkie next spring (hopefully) and wouldn't want Bo to be snapping at a little puppy. I know it will be a challenge when that time comes.

| I dont know what got into her. But the thought of her being aggressive is funny. She is so little and never bothers anyone.
