| Bathing & Teeth Brushing I'm curious - how often do you bathe/groom your dog? I heard their skin gets dry if you do it too often, so I don't want to, but I want to keep Winston clean. Also, do you brush his/her teeth (& if so how often), or do you wait & let the groomer do it? |

| I bathe Sophie once a week because her hair is quite oily, but I did get a hypoallergenic shampoo (Epi-Soothe) from the vet. I tried a regular brand from the pet store, but Sophie was scratching like crazy and the vet said it was dry skin. The special shampoo has definitely made a difference-- I can bathe her every weekend without her getting all itchy and miserable. I brush her teeth every morning after I brush her hair and put a barrette in her "bangs." I take the barrette out every night and she runs around a little with her hair all wild and then sleeps that way. Since I brush her every morning, I keep her toothbrush with her brush so that I don't forget her teeth. In order to get her okay with brushing her teeth, I started by just putting a little dog paste on my finger and rubbing her teeth with that. Once that was no big deal, I switched to a puppy tooth brush I got from my vet. It's super tiny and soft-- a much better fit for her tiny mouth than the dog brushes I've seen in stores. My mom's older Yorkie has lost most of his teeth, and so did my aunt's dog, I'm trying not to let that happen to Sophie! |

| I bathe Callie once a week unless I'm really sick or there is a grooming appointment that will only be like three days after the week is up, I was using a shampoo the vet gave me for her skin allergies but the people who make it stopped so I just tried the pethead for flaky skin/sensitive skin and it seemed to work really well! She gets really greasy towards the end of the week so she almost has to have a bath weekly. Callie loves baths so its not like I have to fight her or anything. I brush her teeth, then apply ovavet, then comb her to make sure there so tangles and get any loose hair and check her skin, then give her a bath. Its so funny because I have ocd so I do things in the same order so she knows the order and like when its time to comb her she will sit with her back to me before I even have the comb.

| I know there are a lot of people on here that bathe once a week, but I have tried doing that, and my Jimi's skin gets really dry and itchy (plus he doesn't really get that dirty). So, now I only bathe every 2 weeks or so. Works out better for us. You just need to find a pattern that works for you. But of course, if your baby rolls in some mud or something, you might have to bathe sooner than expected. I only brush Jimi's teeth when we do bathtime. He HATES baths, so I figure I will get all of the 'torturing' done at once.

YT 2000 Club Member | I bath Jasmine once a week. She loves her bath. I use the spray nozzle in the kitchen sink and she stands there like she is in a little mini shower. After the "shower" I towel her off with a hand towel and then blow dry her. She really likes the blow dryer too, she will just prance around it. Then I spray some colonge on her, put her hair up, add a bow and WA-LA..........we are set to go for another week. She is the easiest furbaby I have every had to give a bath too. She doesn't mind the clippers either. I guess you could tell by now that I am a very proud Mommy, but she is just so easy to love.

| I have just started using Yorkie Splash & Shine and it is really good. Although Scruffs never had problems with dry skin in the time I had him (he did with his old owner), he is a lot softer and better smelling. I am going to try once a week but if he still smells good at the end of the week we'll put it off for a few days. It's been three days and he still smells good, that is a record! I brush his teeth daily using a toothbrush and CET vanilla-mint toothpaste (LOVE this!). Like some one else mentioned on here, I have seen dogs teeth that are disgusting, and Scruffs are NOT ending up like that!

| My three stinkpots get a bath once a week. If I'm particularly busy or lazy, it's less but we never go more than 10 days or so. As for tooth brushing - all three of mine brush their teeth. Barney and Daisy need help, but Teddy does his own. Here is a link to Teddy brushing his teeth with the electric toothbrush (the flick that made him famous and the apple of Bella Boo's eye). http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...oothbrush.html
