| Bailey is 11 months and just started her first heat last week. The signs are it will get swollen, you might notice some blood but most small dog lick themselves clean and some dogs have a smell. and for the anal gland not all dogs need it. I have have quite a few dogs in my life and Bailey is my second yorkie and this is the first dog I needed to express anal gland. Basicaly if your dog has firm stool it will express it on its own. My dog in the other hand has IBS and if she eats anything else that is not her prescrption food it is instant softer stool and well in my case I need to get them express because she can't do it on her own. Good Luck with everything. and Merry xmas
