| Someone said my Yorkie does'nt trust me? Toby isn't nearly as affecionate towards me as he is to my wife. He gives her lots of kisses but seems like he has to bring himself to give me even a small lick.A lady at Petsmart said he does'nt trust me but I show him so much love I can't imagine that is true. Any ideas?

| I think it has to do with how much time someone spends with the dog, feeding, playing, etc. Even though Reesie is my daughter's, and she spent a good couple years very close to her, I'm left now to handle the day to day stuff. My wife gets home from work and she'll cuddle to my wife, but always comes back to sit next to me. (maybe it's 'cuz I let her watch TV, LOL!) |

| Don't get me wrong, he definitely likes to play with me.It's just if I'm with him and my wife gets home he's very excited but when she is with him and I come home he acts like he does'nt care. I know he loves me. It must be because I'm a guy.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Some people are just idiots! Don't listen to them. We don't like people all the same, so why would we expect dogs to? That doesn't mean Toby loves you less, it just means he loves you differently. If he didn't trust you, I think you'd be seeing other behaviors that would indicate mistrust. Women do get more giggly/mushy than men typically & Toby is probably responding to that. You could try getting more giggly/mushy/ga-ga & see what happens. lol!

| Start feeding him and giving him treats. My Husband feeds ours and gives them food treats and they are crazy about him. Also take them on walks

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Oh Dennis, don't listen to Petsmart employees. Your little boy is hardwired to the opposite sex. Get a girl baby and your arms will freeze up in the "hold" position. You might as well name her "velcro". She will worship you and fight off a buzzsaw if it tries to get close to you. Your ego will soar with the eagles. (not a bad thing) Do it! It's Christmas and your dog loving heart deserves it! |

| People at Pet Market are the most stupid people I've ever ran into. If your wife spends the most time with him, feeding, walking, etc. he looks to her as his pack leader, and knows he has to depend on her. It sounds like he loves you very much. Maybe you want to take over feeding him. It will make him depend on you to.

| Our yorkie is 4 months old. He seems to favor me more than my daughter but still loves both. He plays with both. I think dogs realize who the alpha is and in your case that just may be your wife. |

| My hubby feels this way from time to time. Our girl loves him and I know trusts him, she just prefers her mommy. I think it is because I am her primary caregiver, I mean I feed her, take her out for potty breaks, even take her on errands with me. She alway meets me at the door, and will run past him to greet me if we both come in. I know it has nothing to do with trust. Since we have added another furbaby, her daddy has found her in his club moreoften lately. LOL He's gotten used to the idea she's using him. |

| Yeah my DH feels the same as you. Put treats in your pockets for when you come home Personally I think it's because when they are puppies the ladies never put them down They baby them and the pups love it. Oh and don't listen to the Petsmart person, they might not even own a dog no less one as complicated as a Yorkie LOL Just enjoy the snuggles you get and don't worry he'll come around.

Thor's Human Donating Member | I thought you were going to say that your pup cowers in front of you or something. Just because he doesn't lick you doesn't mean he doesn't love you! Maybe he wants to maintain his manly image with you. Seriously, I've seen a lot here that yorkies tend to bond more strongly to the opposite sex. And yes, the more you feed and entertain them, the more openly affectionate they will be. |

I read an article about Yorkies personalities, they seem to fall into two groups, the social butterfly that loves everyone, or the group that has a favorite person. Sounds like you'll have to get a second yorkie for yourself! I have two yorkies and one is particular for me and the other loves the world!! | |
