please help me!!!! Hello Everyone I hope I can get some help from everyone..... I purchased a Yorkie pup 2 sundays ago from Worldwidepuppies in LI, that same night I brought him home he was coughing so I brought him to the vet and he said that he had Kennel cough and put him on antibiotics, to make a long story short he is now hospitalized hes been there for over a week he had pnemonia. I went back to the shop and requested for a refund an an explanation to witch after my research done on the internet I got my answer from all the reviews I read.. my question here is that the vet where my puppy went has given me the chance to take the puppy back they said he is doing well but I don't know if he will live to be normal after having pnemonia he is 13 weeks and weights 1lb 6oz ... can anyone help me here with some feed back I asked the vet to do a chest xray so that I can make my decision about maybe taking him back I only had him for four days and became very attached to him as well as my daughters...... |
why wouldnt he be normal if he recovers? If the vet says he is cured, then you need to make the decision to keep him or return him for your refund I would think. No one can make that decision for you. Good luck and I hope the puppy gets well soon. |
you should also turn in the pet store for selling a sick puppy. |
I hope that the vet is not in to scam people either... |

If he was in to scam you I am sure he would be making up more excuses to keep him. Good luck in the choice you make. |
I am not sure I understand completely, your puppy is at your vet and has been for over a week with pneumonia correct? Now the vet says the puppy can be released (which sounds like a good thing) but you are worried about the how the illness effected the puppy? I can share my experience, I have a Yorkie who now almost a year and half old. When I first got her she also had kennel cough, I took her to my vet right away and they treated her. Unfortunately for her I was not really good at giving her the med properly (she was spitting the pills out) and it also turned into pneumonia. I got very lucky, my vet treated her right away for with a antibiotic (in the form of a shot) and followed up a week later with another shot since it sounded like she was still congested. Now one year later I have a healthy 7.5 lb Yorkie who has no side effects from being ill. I know from experience it is so scary when a puppy that small is ill, I spent more than a few sleepness nights with Sophie Kate just cuddling her and making sure she was comfortable. I am not sure what you plans are for the puppy, hopefully you will keep it since it sounds like you've gotten attached. Good Luck. |
It should be healthy eventually, any dog can get Kennel cough, I think that's the optional shot called Bortadella. It would be very traumatic giving him back especially since he's been in the pet shop then your house now the vet. etc. |
the kennel cough and pneumonia should not make him any more prone to future illnesses. If the vet gives him a clean bill of health I would keep him. But being so small there are a lot of other concerns you need to be aware of. he can be easily injured by jumping off of furniture or out of a childs arms. Make sure children sit on the floor when playing with him and do not allow them to put him on the furniture. Wath him carefully to make sure he is eating, they can get hypoglycemia very quickly when they are that small. Keep him in a safe area where he will not accidently get stepped on. |
Dogs sold at petstores come from puppymills, so I would be worried about him/her having issues from that as opposed to the kennel cough. |
:(When I took Lucas to the vet last week on Monday he said he looked very healthy except for the kennel cough that on thursday turned into pnemonia.... I really hope that he is ok I'll get the chest xray results tomorrow. I will never know if he comes fro a puppy mill or not I still have not gotten any of his pedigree paperwork either.....I will be traveling on thursday for thanksgiving and the vet said I should not take him on a plane with me so I would have to look for boarding for him?????:( |

Boarding isn\'t a god idea for a sick dog. But it\'s your dog. All Pet stores buy puppymill dogs it\'s a known fact. Goodluck! |
Hate to say it but if you can I would probably return the puppy, get my money back and get a pup when you are back from Thanksgiving from a god breeder. |
depending on the results I may keep him or let him go back to the pet tore once he has been discharged, does nayone know of any good breeders in NYC..: |
I would not take him back to the petstore. Just a little FYI. Petstores buy their puppies from puppy mills. You can google puppy mills and it will give you insight as to what they are and why your pup was so sick. Once he\'s pnemonia is gone there is no reason to believe he would not be normal. Personally, I would keep him and check into the puppy lemon laws in your state to recoup his vet bills now and future. As far as boarding that is not a good idea. He\'s still not 100 percent better but even if he were not sick boarding a 13 week old puppy is just not something I would reccomend. Perhaps, one of the vet techs could keep him for you and you could pay him or her? Just an idea this way he\'d be in a house plus be with someone experieenced with his case and who has access to the vet. Good Luck. Elaine |
