X-pen Question: She can jump high....! Hi, We have a 5-month old shorkie (Lulu) that we need to confine while we're at work, and have decided to purchase and x-pen. Problem is Lulu is part bunny: she can jump HIGH. We have her in the kitchen now, and we had to double gate (gate on top of another gate) as she learned to hop over the first gate. Any suggestions? We're eager to purchase an x-pen as soon as possible for potty training issues. I see one on-line with the dimensions of 29 inches high x 18 inches wide...one the one hand, it looks like she couldn't jump it (it doesn't have the little holes that she can use as foot holds to gain traction and hop)....but the one I'm looking at doesn't come with a top. So no top to cover it makes me nervous that she might somehow hop out while we're away. Any suggestions? Help!

29 inches isn't very high...The first x-pen I bought for my jumper Max was that height and it wasn't enough. He was 13 weeks old. I went out the next day and bought the 4-foot high pen. Stores like "Tractor Supply" carry the same x-pens as pet stores at lower prices. Good luck!

| We can relate to your problem. I purchased a pen that is 28" high (with no top cover) and Cissy jumps right out. I tried attaching a sheet over the top with no luck. Now, I have an expensive x-pen that is useless to us. I recently ordered another that I saw listed on ebay that has a mesh top cover. The diminsion isn't as large as the first x-pen but if it keeps her safe than we will adjust to the smaller size. Good luck with your little "jumper"!

I've been wondering if we should got a large kennel (with a long floor)....to put the pee pad on one end and the food at the other end - as the kennel has a top? Where did you get your pen with the mesh top? So...the top does the job in preventing a jump escape? It's sturdy enough to not be popped off or removed by a persistent dog? I actually don't know if Lulu would bother jumping if no one is home...but if we walk away from her and she knows we're in the house....a jumping she will go....

I concur with some of the other posters...I had a 3 foot x-pen and Sophie learned to climb it. She can also jump the baby gates but she did that once accidentally when she was chasing her brother the cat and was scolded for it so she hasn't done it again.

That is the coolest thing, thanks for posting! We need something to keep Eva confined when we get her spayed, I would love a pink one though!
