Need advice PLEASE! So Dh's bday is the 17th but we are going to celebrate it this weekend. I rented a corvette for dh and we are going to drive up to his brothers house in Agora Hills ( Thousand Oaks) and have the party up there, with his Mom, Dad, brother and sisters... Well the house we are going to is his brothers and he lives with his gf.. The problem is his gf HATES peanut!! I know right.. how is it possible?? Its true she wont even pet him!! Anyways I am over the fact that she hates my furbaby I have been in the family now for 3 years and thankfully she treats me GREAT, and its not like she treats Peanut bad when they are around eachother she just ignores him... Do you guys think I should leave peanut home? We will be gone all day wont get home till late night, I also wasnt sure if Peanut would be "scared" of the corvette?? If I do take him, I will have to hold him or leave him on his leash the whole time.. Thats not cool I dont think.. Its not like I can let him go in the house.. ERGH I dunno..makes me so upset :( Its not like Peanut is even bad, I watch him like a hawk when he is around her, he is the best dog, I wish she would accept him, makes me so sad. I wish we were going to his parents house, then Peanut would be able to go and have fun too!! Am I crazy? Am I thinking way too much about this LoL. DH says Peanut will be fine to stay at home... but that makes me sad knowing he is by his self and not with Me.. What do you guys think? |
I would never take my dog any place she is not welcomed. One day home alone should be just fine. Peanut will get over it. Just enjoy the day's events without having to fuss and worry about Peanut. |

Whats wrong with people?? How can you not love Peanut?? It makes me upset :thumbdown |
Hey girl...that is a hard one. Whenever we have family functions, Snickers ALWAYS comes and everyone just adores him. And whoever is new (maybe friends or others who come along) is kinda made to like Snick since we all worship him so much lol:). Why don't you call and ask and see what they say?? That might give them the indication you REALLY want to bring Peanut. Having Snickers stay home all day and late into the night is never going to happen so I feel ya there, I would drop him at his babysitters if he is not coming with us all day. I know how you feel. That stinks!! Having to hold him all day or leash him would not be so fun for you or Peanut....I hope it all works out and you get to take him and he gets to run around. Smiles- Snick & Viv |
Not all people like or love dogs. And some of us dog people go too far; treating our dogs as if they are human children. I ran into a couple the other night at a Chinese buffet. They had their little chihuaua in a bag at their table. A DOG IN A RESTUARANT IS A BIG NO NO! I complained to the management about it and was ignored. Consequently I no longer patronage that eating establishment. No matter how much we love our dods, there are limits regarding whether their appearance at some places is appropriate. |

Smiles- Yes it is a hard one, the whole family does adore him, but not Ayla. It sucks bc she adores me, just not Peanut. I think she just doesnt like animals period. If I call her and ask her she will tell me to bring him, but she wont want anything to do with him and she wont want him to run around.. so at that point why bother. Thats not fair for Peanut.. Maybe he can go to his day care, and then Sunday he can have special Mommy/Peanut time. |

Hmm I am guilty of treating Peanut like a human baby  |

Also, I would never be able to enjoy myself taking her some place where I know she is not welcomed. I would be to busy watching her. |

Taking a dog into a restaurant is completely inappropriate and a whole nother issue. Good Luck!! -Vivian |
I love my dog, but as a husband, I wouldn't be happy if on my special day the dog would compromise a fun time with the family. It is just the one day. He will be okay. Do you have a doggy door? We have that luxury. If you don't, have someone watch him then you know he will have company, and you can have a great time (stress free). |

I would leave him at home. I have some family who arent animal lovers or are cat lovers but not dogs. I leave mine at home when we go |

Just leave him at home :) Sometimes it ends up being more work than it's worth. |
I just think of it like this.. Peanut loves to hang out with us and go places.. We LOVE to take him, Peanut would love to hang out with us and take a car ride and go see family.. Thats all I think of it. I am sorry I think of Peanut as my child, DH and I do something fun, Peanut comes with... |

could you take him with you but maybe crate him somewhere while the party is in full swing? If you are leaving early morning and not back till late at night, it seems a long time on his own. If he has to stay home, could anyone drop by to play with him for a while? |
Well, in my case, my whole family knows that if we attend a family function, the dogs will be attending as well. If you do use daycare, that is a different story; then it wouldn't be a big deal to take him. I would not start daycare under this circumstance. And yes, depending on the situation in a restaurant, I don't think pets necessarily need to be in there. So long as the pet was in a carrier or laying down, I don't think I have a problem with it. If the dog, however is sitting begging, then I do have a problem. |

I agree with most of the others...I think you should leave him at home. I don't think you will enjoy yourself if you don't. Maybe its not the gf doesn't like him...maybe she just doesn't want a dog in her house. I've actually had someone come to my house for a visit (they were from out of town but staying with someone else) and brought their big dog. I wouldn't allow him in my house...I don't even allow my own boxer in the house. Some think its cruel but my son has asthma and I have severe allergies and will not let a dog that sheds in the house. I'm sure people think its cruel when I won't pet their dogs and cats either but I will go home a mess if I do. There could be many reasons she doesn't want him there....you just never know. I think you should respect how they feel since you are going to their home. |
I would leave Peanut home. He will be ok for one day.You don't want to strain your relationship with her, it isn't worth it. |
Thanks guys for all your inputs!! Peanut will be staying home, with the tv on :D my poor little guy :( But Sunday will be Mommie and Peanut day :D:D |
I think that is the best thing to do. I have 3 so bringing them anywhere is pretty much out of the question. I am home most of the time with them so if there is a time they have to be left for longer period of time they do fine. Go and have a great time and Peanut will be so happy to see you when you get back. |

I know we love our babies, but like previously stated some people are just not dog lovers like us :p Do you have a friend that could maybe keep peanut or check in on him just so you know he is okay? That way you won't worry about him the whole time your at the party. You will be at ease because you can call and check on peanut and enjoy the party for your dh. |
Why not have Pnut's gf's mommy watch him for the day? OR... how about you drop him off with me and Uni for the day?!!! :p |
