Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Head lice? Ick. After visiting with some nephews who had it, my wife discovered she has head lice. There are a bunch of white eggs sticking to her hair. Ick. The mother-in-law is trying to say animals can't get human head lice, but that seems like bull to me. Anybody know differently? Fortunately, I don't think I have them. But I still say ICK!

| My daughter had head lice in January. Yes, it is gross but fortunately, it was easily treatable. We used the shampoo and followed up with a second shampoo treatment following the schedule. That was the end of them. Thank goodness. She was the only one who got it in our family. She shared her hairbrush with her friends who had it. Lice is where we get the word cooties and nits as in Nit picking. Many people experience it but won't tell you about it.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Interesting, thanks. My wife's freaking because she's never had them, and she has waist-length hair.

| My oldest daughter had them when she was in Kinder. She had them really bad. I was totally grossed out! But with her hair so long and me not wanting to cut her hair, I used the treatment but was having a hard time taking out the eggs with the comb. So I sat there for what seemed like forever and picked out every single egg. The treatment will sometimes kill the eggs but not all,,, so you have pick them out and pop them like how you would kill a flea. I felt so sorry for her. After the the first sitting I would check her thoughout the day. Poor thing wanted to hid so that I wouldnt look through her hair. but with all that hair I wanted to make sure I got all the eggs out! I followed up with the treatment and that was that. I don't remember ever having head lice as a kid, but I do remember my sister getting them. My mom would treat her and she would get them again. So my mom would use the treatment and then wash her hair with dog shampoo for a week or 2 and it would worked she didn't get them again. As far as dogs having lice,,,,, they get a different type so I don't think there is a worry there. Now as far as yourself getting them,,,,,, It takes just one to lay thousands and thousands of eggs and you may not even know for some time that you even have them. My son and husband never had to worry they have always kept their hair really short,,,,, but us girls who all have really long hair I would treat mine and the girls even if I didn't find anything. Because chances are if one has them it they will spread. You never know. And finding just one is like looking for a needle in a haystack! So it's a good idea to treat before they start to lay eggs. Good luck with your wife and keep checking any other humins heads that live in the house.

| Call your doctor and get a prescription shampoo. It is thick as molasses but it works with only one treatment. My kids used to come home from school with it when they were little and I'd end up having to treat them. YUCK! The prescription stuff doesn't require a retreatment.

| You can get lice shampoo treatment at any drug store or pharmacey. They are nasty little things. You will also need to clean your home very good washing bed clothing , hats and boil all brushes and combs. stuff animals any thing she has been in contact with must be washed. It a big job but if done right you will get rid of them the first try. animals cant get human lice. We found a little fullblooded puppy once someone must of tossed out on the side of the road. well I was on my way to work and saw it and ended up taking it to work with me and then having the guard watch it untill lunch time for me. Well I took it home and bathed it only to find out it was full of little bugs. I took it to the vet . The vet said it was full of chicken lice. we gave it bath after bath and then used the med shampoo the vet gave us and some spray. it was a real sweet little puppie. I found a good home for it. It made me so mad that some one would not take the time to treat this little puppy and just tossed it out. I go down the road and visit it from time to time. its a full blooded Husky. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Great advice. My wife stayed home from work and she's cleaning the house and treating her hair. I'll tell her about the prescription treatment. Somebody told her to use mayonaise.
