im new && need advice.

i joined this site to further my knowledge on the breed and in hopes to find a breeder . not an breeder but a great breeder that does this out of love for the breed . ive come accross ppl who want to sell me puppies for thousands of dollars is this normal yes i dont mind 1 thousand dollars for a puppy maybe even 1500 to 2000 but 3 to 9 thousand dollars for a puppy ???
is this normal?
does anyone know of a great breeder who can be to my help ?
i really want of these angels for my own .

I would never pay over $1200 for a puppy but that's just my opinion. I think anything above $2500 is definitely too expensive! You can find wonderful, great, respectable breeders in a much better price range. $9000 is outrageous! There's a few great breeders on this site, actually!

Holy moly! $9000? That's insane. I also think $1200 is too much for a dog but that's just me. I got my Yorkie for $800 without papers so with papers, I think $1500 is about the normal asking price.

i found a beautiful baby girl .she was just precious . i assumed since she was gonna be fairly little she would be about 1000 dollars nope . the lady emailed me back and said 3500 . i was floored and very sad . the money isnt the issue cause i can pay but i just think that is way to much for a dog .

What you pay for a yorkie varies from region to region. With the East & West Coasts being a bit more expensive. It also depends on the breeder and what they're in it for....some are in it for the money......so they know all the advertising ploys to fool the unsuspecting/unknowlegable average person. Those that breed to improve the breed usually breed on a limited basis, are not in it for the money, but for themselves. These are the breeders that really care about the breed and know what they are doing. Not just putting two dogs together to supply a pet market......

Now $3,500 is a bit much....that's the price of a show dog.....so, you better be getting a top quality dog with the best pedigree behind it.

Being a breeder/exhibitor, coming from Texas the average price from a reptuable breeder/exhibitor in Texas is about $1,000. A breeder shouldn't be offering two sets of prices; 1 with and 1 without papers.....Please, very unethical.

Are you aware that Yorkies can potentially have extensive medical problems? Do you look for breeders who test for those problems and give guarantees based on having tested and made sure their dogs are free of those medical issues ? I would ask about their health guarantees and ask lots of questions about same before buying a dog from them

So sad but true, Yorkies are very popular now, especially the smaller ones are wanted by a lot of people. Many breeders will charge a lot of money for the smaller ones because they can get away with it.

The smaller the estimated size, the more money they will charge,.... will they end up that size or weight? Only time will tell.

I did see one online add for an older championed show Yorky that had already sired many litters. The breeder wanted $10,000 for him. I don't know the situation of the one you saw for $9,000, but if the breeder has gone to a lot of shows to champion their dog, they may consider that a good price for the time,vet bills,lab tests,traveling and show expenditures to have gotten him there? That I can only guess at. Certainly not a reasonable price for a pet!

Even the best breeder who does it only for the love of the breed, has considerable expense going into each and every puppy. Its not just loving Yorkies and breeding two dogs together.

The local pet store asks $2000 + for the dog and accessories and first weeks food for a pup less that 3 months old. Of course they no longer sell AKC dogs there.

Make sure you ask about the medical tests they have done, if they don't test, or seem unaware of any medical issues Yorkies as a breed do have, then run the other way! Don't buy a dog from this kind of breeder!

The medical problems I can list off of the top of my head are Liver Shunt,(more than one kind, usually born with them, not always obvious to those who don't know about them) This causes the liver not to function properly to filter out normal and natural toxins in the body, can lead to constant illness and death. Legg Perths, a hip problem usually requireing surgery to correct, luxating pattelas are a knee problem that they can be born with or can occurr because of injury to the knee from jumping off of furniture,etc due to their very active nature. Collasping Trachea which causes the dog not to be able to breath properly, sounds like they are sneezing backwards or coughing, happens when they get excited or over exerted. They can have heart and eye problems , so ask about those too! Talk to your vet and ask them about any potential problems they know about with the breed and do they know of someone who has medically sound dogs whom they would trust to buy a dog from?

Do lots of research, don't just fall in love with pretty pictures on the internet

though i am young i have done research for close a year . i am aware that they do cost alot of money to maintain and do get sick sometimes.
i read up on tthere liver knee and teeth problems. im aware that it cost alot to breed but i do think anything higher then 2000 dollars for just the dog is too much . i dont need a show dog . i just need a companion

Welcome!!! I just wanted to wish you luck in your search for your new baby I think you will find some great breeders out there who aren't about the $ and are about the love for the breed.
You will love being owned my a Yorkie! they are the BEST!
