new owner Will be getting my teacup yorkie on friday, she is so gorgeous at only 8 oz. her name is peebles will have pics soon, a little nervous to bring her home, we have a 12year old male weiner who thinks he is the boss, Hope it goes well |
Welcome to YT..:aimeeyork |
Welcome!! She is so tiny. Since she is so young and so tiny please makes sure you read up on hypoglycemia and know what to do. It's also good to have a 24 hour vets number on hand. Also what I do with mine is use ramps and only allow them up on furniture or beds when they know how to get down using the ramps. These little ones can break legs so easily. I can't wait to see pictures and I love her name. |
WELCOME TO YT:D. I can read your excitement! Just a word of caution, be careful referring to Pebbles as a "teacup" as the term is highly disputed on this site and a very small yorkie is more commonly referred to here as a tiny yorkie. Technically speaking there is only one breed of Yorkshire Terrier. Do a search on this site for comments regarding the use of the word "teacup" and you will see what I mean. That being said I'm sure you will enjoy your puppy and all the information you can find on this site. Please post pictures of your little Peebles:D!!! |
Congrats on your baby, how old is she? That is really really tiny mine were like 1lb 2 oz when I got them and they are so fragile. I would not leave your baby and older dog unattended at all for quite some time. We have a 5 yr old Bichon who is like an old motherly hen would never hurt our baby for nothing....but he will start running if the door bell rings or whatever and has knocked her over more than once, and has jumped off the couch and almost stepped on her with us right there....it is very scary how easily they can get hurt totally on accident. |
Congrats on your new baby! I know you will have a lot of fun. |
Peebles thanks for all the advice, I will try to have pics up next week, cant wait to spoil her.:p:animal-pa |
Congrats! She is way too small for you to be bringing home. The breeder should be keeping her untill she gets bigger. I have an 8 ounce kitten right now and its only learning now how to eat right. There is no way I would send it to its new home. Please have nutrical and keep in close contact with your vet |
First of all congratulations, now I would NEVER send a puppy home that tiny.. may I ask how many weeks is she? I have on hand a great supplement call puppy drops, please do some research and get some before your little girl comes home if you get her this small.. Nutri drops are the best supplement for tiny dogs, nutri-cal works too... hugs, and can't wait to see pictures.. hugs, Carmen in nj a bit about nutri drops.. Pet Nutri-Drops is a premium nutrient rich supplement developed to rapidly provide energy and essential nutrients. The perfect energy support for newborn puppies and kittens and all dogs because it is immediately absorbed. • Hypoglycemic, limp pups have become alert and feeding within 15 minutes |
Congratulations & welcome to Yorkie Talk. How old is Pebbles? |
Congrates but like others say be very mindfull of that little girl I watch kingston like a hawk but he still got off the couch when my hubby was watching him scared me so much I won't let him hold him unless he sits on the floor lol my dh thinks I'm crazy but I know better |
Congrats on your new baby. Wow, she is tiny. She is completely off the weight chart. Good luck with your little one and welcome to YT! :) |

I hold all my pups until 12 weeks of age and 2 pounds and if they don't reach 2 pounds by that age, they are held longer. |

I wish you luck with him, but I am truely frightened for both of you. We have read so much heart ache on here over those tiny babies. The most unselfish thing you could do for that baby is to ask the breeder to keep her until she is at least 16 weeks and hopefully a pound. |
I hope all goes well with your new baby. Those little ones are so fragile, so take extra special care with her. Congratulations and welcome to YorkieTalk! |
congratulations on your new baby. Hopefully you don't plan to bring her home until she is at least two pounds, well hopefully your breeder would not let her go at 8 OZ.... if that is what she weighs now |
Congrats on your new baby girl! :welcome4: to YT!! Can't wait to see pictures! |
Wow, you're new baby is definitely a tiny one! My Rio was 16 weeks when i brought her home and she was 1.7 pounds. At 8 months, she is now 2.7 pounds and I don't think she'll be getting much bigger. Having a tiny Yorkie takes a LOT of care, and you cannot leave them at home alone all day. I took off work for 2 weeks when I first got her, and now she is baby sat every day at my brother and sister-in-law's house when I am at work. She is very well socialized because she's always around people. You'll need to feed her often, at least 4 times a day, or free feed the entire day. You'll need to be sure to give honey/karo syrup/nutrical (choose one) before bedtime to prevent hypoglycemia. I also give Rio yogurt before bedtime to keep her tummy acids from making her vomit in the morning. I also give her yogurt first thing in the morning, again so her tummy won't be empty. I carry a small syringe of karo syrup in case I ever feel her blood sugar is low while we're out shopping or running around. You'll need to learn to "shuffle" around your house so you don't accidentally step on her. Tiny ones also have tiny bladders, so they can't hold their pee as long as bigger Yorkies. Rio can hold it about 5 hours if she had to, but she tends to pee every 3 hours. She is fully potty trained to go outside, so I'm very lucky. Having a tiny Yorkie is a lot of work but I wouldn't trade her for the world. She's big love in a small package! :) |
my tiny yorkie yes she is very tiny but she is growing, whe was 8oz at 6 weeks she is now eating by herself and she is growing, thank you all for your concern but if I thought there was going to be a problem I denfinetly would not pick her up yet. |
Welcome to YT and congrats on your soon-to-be new addition. :) Please don't think badly of anyone here for the advice they are giving you regarding being cautious with your new little one. Everyone is just trying to help you out by giving you as much info as possible. (IMO, too much info is better than not enough.) Educating one's self on the breed FIRST is a great way to prepare for bringing one into your home, but there is so much to learn that vital info can be overlooked. (Like the taboo associated with the term "teacup"--such a big deal that it's kind of hard to overlook. :p) Try to remember that most of the members here have been around Yorkies for quite a while and are more accustomed to the problems that can arise with them, expecially little ones. Many of the members here have seen and experienced their fair share of heartache with these little guys. No one is second guessing your ability to handle your new little one, just trying to give you some helpful pointers that many first time Yorkie owners are unaware of. Best of luck! Can't wait to see pics of your new furball. |
