The eagles have left the area so I was unable to get a photo of them!
From the way they looked and what we could see of them, DH and I agree they were an adolescent pair. Lovely birds, I hope we see them again next year!

lol my whole family lives within a few minutes of there. my aunt and uncle live RIGHT by that campground too...such a small world!

Michigan girl here too , living in TN......I cant believe where you guys all live I used to live in Almont, my son is in Capac (whom I just visited last week) small world...
I didnt realize or should say see, any eagles...they are magnificant birds, but ooooooo so scary around out lil ones.....
I have problems with hawks and buzzards here in the mt.s of TN...they start circling when I have Shay out on the deck with me, so until the sun porch is finished, he will not even be out there with me.

My other "pet" hobby is fish - Koi, to be exact. They look like beautiful eye candy to birds, and protecting them from predators is imperative.

If you have a backyard that allows it, string monofilament fishing line between posts up high (8' or so, so you don't walk into it). It won't interfere with your vision too much, but the birds will see it and realize they have no "swooping" area. Or, put used CD's on line and hang them like windchimes. They twist in the wind and throw rainbow colors ... also distracting to the birds.

Of course, the two best ways to defeat the birds is to never let the dogs off-leash, even in the yard, or to put them in a covered run outside.

I have Eagles, hawks and owls ... birds are right up there on the list of things that make me fear for the well-being of my Yorkies.

im glad to hear your babies are ok...these birds are getting really brave! this summer in alaska a crowd of seagulls (yes i said it correct...SEAGULLS) tried to attack my yorkie babie and i while we were on a walk in downtown anchorage. My dog was so spooked he wiggled out of his collar into a 4 lane road. luckily there wasnt much traffic but i recovered him safely! Sending positive vibes your way and hoping that you keep those babies safe and protected!!!

That is one of my worst fears and another reason I think small dogs are safest on a leash even in their own yard when predatory birds and coyotes live in the area.

"Way cool"? I think not! You all realize that if an eagle swoops down and hits your furbaby that it will, in fact, die. Not immediately maybe, but it definitely will die because it's lungs and heart will be pierced by the talons, not to mention that it's back will be broken. Sorry, I see nothing beautiful about that. I don't know what you can do other than guard your baby until they leave. You can't shoot them cause they're protected.

What sucks is that the birds are predators. They have no clue that they are trying to get at your pet. It is just nature. Like you said, just make sure they are in the kennel or are under supervision. I live in town so I don't have anything like that. We have a racoon that prowels, but Buddy always chases him away.

God gave us the dogs, but He also gave us these magnificent birds to adore!
