| ![]() I have a 5 lb. female and a 7lb. male. Is it safe to breed a larger male with a smaller female? ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() It is not recommended to breed a larger male to a smaller female. The puppies could be to large for her to deliver and complications could occur. Though I am no expert, I am sure someone with more experience will be able to tell you more.. |

| ![]() Breeding a smaller male to a larger female in the yorkie breed is a misnomer. But, to expand on that, there is much more to consider......how familiar are you with the lines on these dogs, are they closely line bred? And, I'm sure you already have done this: but, have they both had all the required testing done on them.....bile acids, hips & knees x-rayed., ears, eyes, heart checked. Blood work up and checked for sexually transmitted dseases? Have you had an ultrasound done on the female to insure that she can carry a larger litter and free whelp them?

| ![]() My first reaction to your question is that if you are unsure what is "safe" for your dogs, then you probably shouldn't be breeding at all at this point. For the record, the size of the female and male alone will not give you an indication as to if they will be a good match in regards to size. You have to take into consideration the size of the other dogs in their lines. Genetics come from more than just the dam and sire. |
