| ![]() You are so right, if a mother has been given enough time to teach and the breeder has done their job, puppies do not chew fingers, at least mine don't when they leave my home.

![]() But, you are right and bringing up a point I touched on earlier: Once one does "know better", do you still release / take them when you know it is 'too early.' That was my concern--that people were inadvertantly being advised that it was OK because of one experience where 'nothing (major) went wrong.'

Sadie is doing great, but i wouldn't take the risk of another BYB again especially not if i can't go see their facility...and i wouldn't get one this young again either because they can be taught, but it's a lot harder to do than if their mama does it for you!! ![]()

| ![]() Here in Texas most people (not reputable breeders) who breed their dogs and call themselves "breeders" sell them at 8 weeks old. Like it or not it's the norm and sometimes they let them go even a week or so younger. Just click on any online classified-ad section in any major city paper and you will see puppies being sold at 8 weeks old. Or go online and search for Yorkies (or other breeds) for sell in Texas, it's madness with all the ads. Most people are ignorant to what age a puppy should be sent to their new home, or who to trust when looking for a good breeder. Most of these pop breeders say that they are ready to go as soon as they are weaned from their mothers and eating kibble. But they do tell people not to take them out and about until they are pass 3 months old and had shots, because of Parvo. Yes this is crazy and causes problems, and some get lucky and have none, but it's so sad for those who do. Last edited by Cerise; 10-09-2009 at 01:14 PM. |

| ![]() I understand how hard it is to walk away from a puppy when you have fallen in love, but my advice would be to consider how LONG that puppy will be an important part of your life; it is such an emotional and time commitment! Are you prepared to roll the dice? This might seem silly if I said it to a non-Yorkie person, but (as a 2 time Yorkie owner with a new puppy right now) I think that bringing home this special family member is one of the most important decisions you can make for the next 10-15-20ish years. I do understand that Yorkies are first and foremost 'dogs,' but because of their size and associated care they become very child-like for many of us. I applaud anyone who takes the time to ask questions, do research, and approach the decision to adopt.....particularly before the puppy has reached 12+ weeks.....very seriously. Best wishes as you struggle with this decision. |
