Here's a link: http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1127956854654 Still, training and spending time on working with this behavior / establishing better communication with the dog will be your most rewarding approach, and probably the only one that's truly effective in the long term.

| Try a newspaper, wrap it up and hit YOUR HAND next to the dog when he barks. At the same time say NO!!!. This will take some time, several times a day. Plus you have to be consistant. Within a weeks time you'll see a difference. My husband calls them wireless terrors.....

| bark collar I have never seen or used one ,it was a question.I read where they are used but know nothing about them. I would not use anything that would be mean or harmful to anything .I didn't mean to offend anyone.

| training a yappy dog is not all that difficult, like anything else it requires time, time and more time. I train mine not to bark by picking them up and sitting them on my lap, I then tell them NO Barking, HUSH. I do not raise my voice. I force them to be still by holding them tightly in my hands. If they continue to bark I will hold their mouth closed while repeating No Barking, Hush. It has never taken me more than a couple of sessions to train a dog not to bark except when someone is at the door. We have squirrels, racoons, deer, cats etc that wander past the patio and the dogs know they are not allowed to bark at them. They also know that they are allowed to bark at the train when it goes by (that's because the engineer always blows the whistle when he sees them). I have heart to heart discussions with my dogs about behaviour, sounds nuts I know but it has always worked for me. I think it is just that they get that I am serious about whatever it is that's happening so they tend to listen. Squirting a dog with water, rattling cans, blowing whistles etc has as much chance of making the problem worse. Your dog should not fear you but respect you and know that you are boss which is why yelling NEVER works as a training method. |

Awww, thanks! No, I'm not a trainer, but I am thinking of becoming one that specializes in small dogs, or maybe even just Yorkies. So far, it's just a day-dream. A lot of people just see the small fluffy critter and can't imagine that it's often smarter than a sheep-dog. I've read a LOT of material to better understand my dog Chewy. He's an incredibly bright dog with a few minor health and personality issues. Some of these require that I be knowlegable about the latest training methods and so I have bought lots of books and read a LOT online. I'm glad you like my advice, but just bear in mind that I'm recycling a lot of other people's material, and I might be getting things a little wrong. I'm not a professional...yet.

| One thing that has worked for me when Samson is in the house barking near me is I cover my eyes or at least shield them on the side he's on so he can't see my eyes. He hates this!!! He'll move from one side to the other to try to see my eyes And after a little bit he stops barking and will usually go get a toy so I'll play with him. |
