EXACTLY!! But yet people still feel the need to poke their noses in other people's business. And it baffles me why people think that lovingly carrying your dog somehow constitutes as animal cruelty? Meanwhile, those same people would probably turn a blind eye to a REAL act of animal cruelty. |
OK, people may hate me for saying this... but I must admit, it does irritate seeing little Yorkies being held what seems ALL the time. I totally understand in certain situations having to pick up your dog, like lovespandp stated across the intersection, or if a big dog approaches, or if in a large crowd of people, I 100% understand picking up your dog in these cases. OR, if a dog just had surgery, or has LP, or something, therefore I would never ever in a million years make a comment to anyone ever because you never fully know the situation. But I DO think dogs should walk and do think sometimes people go overboard. My friend has a new little Yorkie pup, who can't even be 4 pounds yet and she walked for nearly two hours (over a mile for sure) at a good paced speed around our neighborhood circle perfectly fine. So, I can see where the general public is coming from, thinking "oh these little dogs are just carried and babied all the time..." but because I know more about the Yorkie breed and owning one, I can also understand a lot more than the average person. Besides that, I'm not the kind of person to make rude comments to anyone about anything. And believe me, my 12.5lb Jackson is as spoiled as anything, but he's all dog and loves living his life as a dog, lol, you can tell. He's capable of going up to other dogs, saying his "hey" and loves to run around, etc. He doesn't cling to my legs the entire time we're out; however, if I leave a room, he's crying and wanting me back. So he's a big baby too but I've also let him know it's OK to be a dog! And I mean *NO* offense in this post. I hope nobody takes it the wrong way. I'm just saying the other side of things. |

I would have to say I get this alot, but they usually say it with a smile. so I really dont get annoyed. |
I haven't had anybody say anything to me yet. My husband jokes about holding her all the time though. She wants me to hold her though, she will jump and give me a little growl/bark to say "hey mom, pick me up!". |
I've gotten these comments alot too. The funny thing is when my neighbors see me holding them. They say that Hot Rod and Maggie May are taking mommy for her walk. lol. I tend to pick Hot Rod up because of his surgery. He sometimes seems to get a little tired. We probably walk close to a 1/2 mile when we go out and we try to do that at least 2x a day. When I wasn't working, we would do it 3x a day. That's a lot for those widdle legs. lol. |
Carrying out babies When someone says, why are you carrying your dog....... I simply say............... Sure he can walk, but why should he if daddy will carry him. It always gets a smile.....:) |

Mocha is only 3lbs, so yes, I AM over protective of him. I'm certainly more protective of him than I would be if I had a much larger dog. I would rather be OVER protective than to risk him being in any possible danger. Does that mean that I baby him too much and just need to let him "be a dog"? I don't really see why it should bother people that someone is carrying a small dog. I don't see it harming anybody, so why is it so frowned upon? |
Piper loves to walk and I take her for a 3 mile walk every day at a State Park. She never gets tired and could probably walk another 3 miles. But if we get to an overcrowded area and there are a lot of people around us she gets scared and I have to pick her up. I'll carry her till we reach an area that is less crowded and then I'll set her back down and then she continues on her merry way. |

That's all I'm saying -- it's possible (unless the dog has lp or something else wrong...) for them to walk long distances. I just think people act like they get oh so tired so quick. I've found that's not the case, it's usually the owners who want to hold the dog but the dogs could usually keep goin'... |

I haven't heard any comments like that lately but one Sunday morning I passed 2 men sitting waiting for their lift and one commented it was the first time he'd seen anyone walk little dogs 'like those'. He thought people only had them to carry around in bags and such. Funny thing is there arn't many small dogs around here and those that do go out are generally walked, including one 12 year-old little girl whos owner takes out every day. She gets picked up when other dogs approach because she's nervouse of them. He explained to me they'd had to take her at 5 weeks old as she was the runt, only half the size of her littermates & they wouldnt let her eat. They had very different ideas 12years ago. |
Walking Get a pet stroller and see the comments. They usually are oh so cuteor I cant blieve a dog is in a stroller. I do what I want and people that make remarks,I just put my head up and by-pass them. I just act like I am to good for you. |
As cute and adorable as these babies are how can you not spoil them ...all my babies are superspoiled with tons of toys ,treats ,food clothes a great home and especially tons of my love ....which makes them superspoiled lol |
Most people who make the "let them walk" comments are probably jealous because they have a big ugly dog at home that can NEVER be carried or brought to most public places :p |
