| microchipping I saw how big the needles were at a vet clinic when I worked there for a few months. Should I have them under anesthesia, before I have my dogs microchipped? I am worried that it causes a lot of pain. My yorkies aren't tiny.. one is 12 lbs, and one is 6 lbs. Benji needs a dental.. so we could have his done while he is asleep, but Chloe (6 lbs) isn't going to be put under for a while.. and I would really like to have it taken care of now. Anyone else have thier yorkies microchipped while they were awake? Was it traumatic and very painful for them?

| I had both my girls done at a VERY young age, Chanel's breeder usually chips the pups herself though she wanted to wait with Chanel because she way REALLY tiny, but ready to come home with us, so she gave me the microchip and told me that i could either come back to her so she would place the chip, or i could take the chip to our vet and have him do it, i think she was around 14 weeks when we took her to our vet, they do it fast, but yes its painful, i cried with both my girls, i was really chicken and stood behind my husband while they were doing it, i balled my eyes out!! REMEMBER that after the chip is placed NOT to rub it like you would after a vaccination, chances are that you rub the chip out and they will have to redo it!

| Bella was microchipped at 7 months and she was 3 lbs at the time. She was not under when they chipped her. It was a quick procedure and she was fine after that.

| Trixie was 6 months when microchipped and we had it all done when she was getting spayed. My vet told me she should really be under anesthesia because of the size of the needle. But if you look at the website at www.homeagain.com you'll see a video of the 'procedure' and the dog is not under... |

| I think it depends on your dog and the person putting the chip in. Gizmo cried like a baby, but Zaylee never a peep! LOL and I thought it was going to be the other way around! I did warn them that Zaylee is a huge baby though...perhaps they did it quicker? Or she is just a big girl now
