Hi, I really don't think you have to worry at all about tiny Yorkie not living as long (unless like the OP said-that they were purposely bred to be tiny and could have health defects). I have a 3 lb girl named Belle who will be 14 in November and she is doing well, she has lost a few teeth, has some mild cataracts, and is a little hard of hearing but she is very healthy and happy. Belle was the largest girl in a litter of 6 puppies from 2 5-6 lb parents and I didn't intend on getting a Yorkie this small but that is how she grew up. In fact she lived longer than my Boxer who died last June at 10 years old. Teresa |

u can go google n search for ' tea cup lifespan' when they meant tea cup, they meant anything who weight 4lbs n below.. even our baby is not tend to breed as a 'tiny' but they come out tiny so im concern about that ;) mayb they say it like that to not encourage people out there to get a tiny? :D |

Thank you for posting this. It has been a concern for me too since Missy has only topped out at 3 lbs 12 ozs. I do agree that the tinies don't tolerate anaesthetic as well, although I do think it has alot to do with whom is administering the anaesthetic. Missy was put under TWICE for leg surgeries (yes, they are fragile, she broke her leg from jumping 4" off the ground) and both times she dealt with it fine, BUT when my regular vet went to do her spay operation, they almost lost her. I think that when anaesthetic is to be used on these tiny ones, they really need to see a specialist (which is whom did her leg surgeries). |

My precious little Kayla who at her heaviest was 3 lbs, lived to be 3 months short of 14 years old. She wasn't bred to be tiny, she was just the "runt" of the litter. She was spayed and did very well. She was a very healthy little girl. |

This is very interesting. My daughter that is 16 has a yorkie that is under 3 pounds. she is a sweetheart. If something would happen to her my daughter would go to peices. I would suggest that people looking at purchasing a tiny yorkie to think about it. They are really like babies. You have to watch them all the time. Now my daughter is in school during the day Jessica cries all day for her. I thought about buying her a carry pouch that I can carry her around but still get things done during the day. |

My Daisy Daisy is 2.6 and will be 1 yr. old Dec.17. Haven't had any problems with her yet. She is healthy and fiesty:D |
