| allergies to fluffy puppy hair Hi I have a ten week old pup. He is adorable. I already have a two year old yorkie I got at over a year. I am having an allergic reaction to the pup with red sore eyes etc. Never had a problem with Jackson. I love this little guy so much. Is he just shedding his fluff? I dont really notice any hair around. When does the new coat come in. I am sure it must be the fluffy coat that is bothering me. It has to be. Just wondering as I have not had a pure yorkie pup before. I gave him a bath Last edited by jacksonsmum; 09-16-2009 at 03:44 PM. |

| I have had allergies myself lately (since getting my new baby Bella) I am not wanting to say it is her I am allergic to as I have 2 other yorkies and yorkies are supposed to be hypo-allergenic... I have been wondering myself what is wrong with me... Surely it isn't the puppy... Maybe we just bought the babies around the time a certain something is in bloom? I am looking forward to seeing other replies. I will tell you, I have been popping Zyrtec like crazy and so has my human kids! Either way, Baby Bella is here to stay so I have my fingers crossed it is just because fall is getting ready to hit

| could your babies be picking stuff up outside that you are allergic to? i know that happens with me. I just have to keep my boys nice and clean. When I go out to my parents' house and spend the day there, I allow my boys to be outside with my brothers as much as they want to be. With all their playing around outside, they pick up pollens and such that I am VERY allergic to, causing me to sneeze my eyes out. I would try maybe washing them once a week, or let a week and a half go by without a bath max. I use a good shampoo, so my boys don't get dry hair or skin, but I try to bathe them a minimum of once every 10 to 12 days. Good luck to you both!

| My DH is having a real bad allergy time right now, so I would think your not allergic to the puppy, just what the puppy is bringing in. Or, your going outside more since you have a puppy and this is causing it?!

| Thanks for all the replys. I have been washing him twice since I got him only a week ago.I dont seem to have a problem outside with the ragweed etc. When I come into the house it starts.I never had a problem with Jackson so thinking it might be the fluffy hair. |

| When we got Yogi in the fall last year, I too, seemed to be allergic to him. Every time I would groom him I'd start sneezing, itching and had a runny nose. He has a soft coat and A LOT of hair and I just hoped it was that he was bringing in allergens. As winter came on and his puppy hair changed over to his adult the allergic reaction went away. Now with fall coming on again, I find that I get a little sneezy when grooming him again. I guess the allergens just love him and want to cling to him as much as I do.

| Hi to all again and thanks for your input. I hope as Teresa mentioned that when the winter comes and his adult coat comes in that I wont have this same awfull allergy. I realize there is ragweed around so I it is possible I guess that he is bringing in pollen or something. I just hope that one of the suggestions is right and it will go away. He is on much better food now.He was on Beneful at the breeders if you can believe it. I dont think that food is very nutritious for dogs especially pups. I read somewhere on here that what they eat can affect allergies in people too. |
