![]() An an aside, that is really scary that he reacted so badly to those topical medications. I would be hard-pressed to use anything like that on my boys, the thought of it is really scary to me. Needless to say, Ranger won't ever be getting another rabies shot!

![]() My Yorkie had his first rabies vaccine in November, 2008. He has lost all of his hair in a 2" x 1" area around the shot site. When I asked the vet about it she said the hair loss was a "reaction" to the rabies vaccine and this hair will never grow back. She also said this reaction is common in small dogs and there is no way of the vet knowing if the dog will have a reaction until the shot is given. I have been reading about the reactions to the rabies vaccine and it seems my Yorkie had a "mild" reaction. Just an FYI for all of you - The same amount of vaccine is given to all dogs whether they weigh 2 lbs or 150 lbs. I have made an appointment with a vet dermatologist to see if there is anything he can do. ![]()

| ![]() mine are on Comfortis now, and have been doing well with it. It is a pill that they take instead of a topical treatment. It does not work for ticks, but we live in the city, and that doesn't seem to be an issue for us. I have not seen any side effects from it, and it seems to work much better for us than frontline is working for my sister's pug.

![]() Hmmm does the hair loss have to happen in the shot area? Lola had a rabies shot end of July and end of August I realized her hair was coming off on her chest, where the harness is? I mean it is all coming in regular color now, its all peach fuzzy kinda. But She did have all her shots that day too. I wouldn't of had them all at the same time, the previous owner had them done. I thought it was her harness rubbing her hair off but could this be a possibility too? ![]()

![]() After asking the groomer and vet about his coat - nobody had an answer, but didn't think it was anything to worry about. I started to notice some of the course fur was growing out. On his last visit to the groomer I had them cut his fur shorter. The bad patch is now gone, and he has his beautiful coat back. Thank you to all who responded, some of the pictures that were posted looked just like his coat did. I only hope it will not happen again.

My sheltie lost a patch of hair and ended up with a HUGE soar/scab when he had his rabies vax 2 years ago. To this day it hasnt grown back and the skin is black. My toy poodle has a spot on her back where she had hers done, it turned red. She has a small rust colored patch of hair that stays there. She has been groomed probably 6 to 8 time since her shot and it still grows back the same color. It sucks, but the rabies shot is required in my state every 2 years so I dont really have much of a choice to have it done. ![]()

![]() Just reading all of the comments on the hair. My little guy is almost 6 1/2 and I noticed yesterday that he as one huge brown spot and one small spot on this back. He had his regular vaccines on Thursday along with his kennel cough vaccine and early in the week had his Advantage Multi. We go on dogs walks and there are as many as 60-80 dogs so I need to use the advantage (which he has never had a problem with) and he needs his kennel cough vaccine. Can anyone tell me what maybe causing the loss of hair and the strange color. I only just noticed this on Friday and I brush him at least every 2nd day. Wondering if the vaccines may have anything to do with it?
