This doesn't make sense that everyone that comes into contact with Karlee has a reaction. Are you sure it's not something inside of your house that you all are reacting to? |

I'm so sorry that this is happening to you all and will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. :ghug: |
I really don't think that is it our home is 13 yrs old and we don't have any close neighbors, we live out on a farm, but the reason I don't think that's it is mainly because no one else has had any issues with Karlee or at my home thats been around her except my son, me and my Mom. My husband and youngest son has no issues, my in laws and my neighbors that have been to my home has'nt had any reactions either and my Dad they all have been fine around her...I get my allergies from my Mom but she did not have any allergic hives breakout just had her eyes swell some and burning when they got here to visit. I really don't know what is happening or why now but my throat keeps swelling and has gotten to the point that it stays swollen most all the time but thankfully my allergy medicine keeps my throat from swelling shut so far I get so panicked especially at night worrying my throat will swell shut while I'm sleeping. I'm going to see my allergy specialist next month...that's the quickest I could get in and my son will be going next week while I'm there I'm going to speak with the specialist anyway about my situation too. I'm praying and hoping when I take my son we can find out some solution then or something to help prevent the hives and throat swelling that's the main thing. Being allergic is not too bad if it can be controlled so that's the main goal for us right now. Thank you all for your comments and I know it sounds complete crazy that it would be Karlee we are also going to see my parents at their home next weekend for my Dad's birthday so hopefully we can see if our allergies still act up by not being around Karlee that is the only way we can know for sure when we get back home we are going to have Karlee stay with our sitter a close family member, for a couple more days to see how we react at home too this way we will know if its something in our home then go get Karlee I can only go 4 days without her because I know we'll miss her so much but maybe that will be long enough to at least give us some answers to if we are or not allergic to something with our little Karlee. |
Allergies Maybe the dog is bringing in something on her feet or fur that you are allergic to. Maybe you are allergic to something in one or more of her toys. I use Comfortis for fleas which is a pill. I don't know if you can give it to puppies, but that would eliminate your having to use a topical flea med. Do try to have someone else keep her for a few days to see if the allergies clear up and then bring her home again and see what happens. I would sure hate to have to see you give her up, especially when she might not be the problem. |
Allergies is just a puzzle sometimes I am just going to have to try everything to really see what works out for us. The doctors advice when I talked to her really made sense today when I took Karlee out for a short walk I washed her feet really good and wiped her down I was careful where we walked there was'nt anything she brushed up against other than just the grass. I did notice today my Mom has not complained about her eyes burning or hurting so apprently that worked for her she has both sinus and allergy issues so I think that may have cured her issues while she is down visiting us. I broke out again today on my chest, face and ears but my allergy medicine took that away quicker than it has in a while so I am thinking it helped to clean the pads of Karlee's feet real good. This time of the year also is so hard with the weather changing all the time but the main thing is I know if I can get better and my son can with the hives and my throat swelling can go away then I don't see a problem anymore. Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I'm working on washing everything down again maybe there is something I've missed then next weekend we are taking 4 days away while a family member dog sits Karlee this will for sure let us know if Karlee could factor any allergies from us. I'll update on how everything goes soon and thank all of you! |
I thought Yorkies are suppose to be good for people with allergies? They don't have hair that sheds because it's more like human hair. It's usually the salvia and hair of hair shedding dogs that people are allergic too. You could have an allergist do allergy testing on your son to see if he is allergic to dogs. Then if not you'd know it's not her and you could try to keep her. Also do you own a cat or are there any cats hanging around your home? But the bottom line is if you don't feel in your heart you want to keep her than find a GOOD replacement home for her. Screen the adopters like a hawk. So she won't go be replaced again. She is so cute and just by looking at her adorable picture she will make some one very happy to have her. Best of luck to you and your family. |
Yes your right Yorkies are suppose to be good for people with allergies, that is what got us originally intrested in a Yorkie because I felt if we got a housedog we could have a Yorkie and it not bother our allergy issues. My oldest son has been allergy tested before and yes he is allergic to dogs but he is far more allergic to outdoor issues like pollen, ragweed, grass..the list goes on and on for him. We had several visits with looking at Yorkies and then when we found the right breeder and found Karlee we knew this puppy was the one we wanted for our family we went several times to visit her before she came home. Although I did hold Karlee the most he was around her during all those visits. He never complained to me about hives in any way until Karlee came home and it took about a week before I remember him complaining enough that got my attention he could'nt sleep for itching so much, it first started after he got home from school he had held Karlee for awhile and then started doing his homework I noticed his cheeks were blotchy and he had marks where he'd scratched that had welped up (this is the same way I react I get welps everywhere even if I just lightly touch my skin and the area swells up there is other types of hives but the type we have is called acute hives) my son had not ever had hive issues though so it alarmed me and I went to questioning him what he could have ate that day thinking it was a food allergy or something. I gave him benadryl that night and he got better. The next morning he was fine and as he started to go out to catch the school bus Karlee jumped almost going outside and Blake picked her up and handed Karlee back to me. He was fine that morning within about an hour of going to school I got a phone call from the school nurse explaining Blake's face was broken out in hives and welps and blotchy and swelling they gave him something to stop the reaction. They said he complained on the bus on the way to school about it and when he got off the bus they took him to the office for immediate attention. He had not been breaking out at home but he did hold Karlee that morning and had to hurry to catch the bus so he did'nt get to wash his hands or anything. I still was not convinced it could have any doing with Karlee until I kept having swelling of my throat. My throat keeps having issues with swelling and my hives that I've had for almost 8 yrs now has worsened to where I almost need 2 allergy pills a day, I am on the highest dose I can take (I also have to be careful with certain allergy meds I only have 1 kidney due to 3 years ago losing a kidney from cancer...the sad part I've only had my throat swell from surgery when they give me certain types of medicine it breaks me out, so for my throat to swell just being here at home its something new) My throat issues and then the hives around my face, neck and chest have really been aggressive since Aug. We got Karlee July 30th...I'm not saying yes it is for sure Karlee but I have spoken to my sons doctor over the issue and she said it could be a number of things that Karlee is around that causes it and she also stated that even though yes Yorkies are usually a great pet for allergy sufferers there is small cases where if the allergies are so severe then even a Yorkie can cause reactions :(:(:( this was very sad news but...she is sending my son back to his allergy specialist next week and I'm going back next month to see if there is something we can do, a cream we can use or a different allergy medicine something to prevent the breakouts, even if we are allergic to something that is caused by having Karlee in our home if we can find a way to prevent the breakout then we can keep her. If I do have to rehome her I am going to screen really well before I will let her be adopted. Its a hard situation and it sounds crazy but it can even do with us taking her outside and she gets something in her hair or something she licks or something on her feet and then it gets tracked in our home those are the things that can cause us to be allergic to her I'm at wits end on what to do but trying for the sake we love Karlee. I hope I am not coming off sounding like I am blaming Karlee because I don't I just want to get my son and myself better the throat swelling scares me so badly and when my son breaks out I can't sleep all night worrying his throat will swell like mine while he is sleeping it brings me to tears and is so stressful. Since I have not let my son hold Karlee in the mornings before he goes to school he has not had one outbreak of hives. He still is having hives issues but we have noticed it has gotten better for him, I do not allow Karlee to go into my oldest son's room at all. When we first got Karlee she would go in my sons room with him and he would hold her and let her up on his bed since I've eliminated all that and gotten everything washed in his room and I mean everything his hives have been very mild. I don't let him around Karlee's blankets or bedding either. Its just trial and error with allergies you never know what will cause one thing to the next. I am so thankful for YT members all of you have been full of great advice things I would not have thought of its been a big help. Just want to thank all of you again and thanks for all the prayers we sure can use them if its meant for Karlee to stay with us I believe truly that it will work out!:) |
I think I read in one of your msgs that one time you had wiped her feet down when she came in from the outside and it seemed to lessen the reactions somewhat. Hopefully, it is something she is tracking in. That can be controlled. Pee pads, a stroller and a treadmill...LOL seriously.. a small dog really doesn't have to go outside to exercise, a stroller would do fine for outings and keep her off the ground and the pollen and other natural outdoor allergens off of her. Pad training her would eliminate the need to go outside for nature calls. Gosh, it would great if it were as 'simple' as that. We're all pulling for all of you to be able to resolve this and keep your entire family intact and healthy. |
If you do need to re-home Karlee, I do understand. |
Thank you:) I do too hope its something as simple as what is happening when Karlee goes out for walks. Karlee loves to play outside and will sometimes jump over us and out the door before we have time to catch her if someone comes in LOL she is so funny but a stroller would be a good idea for sure! I will keep Karlee and your family in my prayers that you find the cause and can eliminate it. |
I would bathe her well and wash all of her items. I'd then keep her inside for a full week to see if things change. Make sure you're using unscented pee pads. Good luck! I hope things work out for you! |
That's a plan. Good Luck!! |
In tears right now..... Well feeling sad again today:( and confused:confused: last night my son's face broke out and he had a very swollen ear that was hot and puffed up so I took him to urgent care to be treated where he got a shot to stop the reaction. They told us to keep Karlee away from him for a few days to see how he reacts and we are gonna stay with a friend of mine whose is like my sister- during this time my Hubby is going to take all the curtains down, shampoo the rugs and wash everything we can and have our home sprayed for fleas incase it has anything to do with fleas. I feel terrible that's all I can think of but I have not saw any fleas on my furbaby but just to be sure that's what we are going to do and Karlee is going to stay with a family member this way when we come back home and get Karlee back with us we will know hopefully some sort of answers??? The fear of all this is unbearable I could'nt sleep last night and kept going to my sons room checking him to make sure he was breathing okay and that the allergic reaction was going away. This is getting terrible on us and its worried me so bad. I have a heavy heart tonight. They did'nt really tell us much at urgent care I explained to them what was going on but they just kept asking about the last visit my son had to a allergy specialist. They did find it odd that my oldest son's allergies have started up in hives just since Karlee has been around us:(:(:( and were rather rude to us over having a housepet knowing my son has allergies to animals:mad: but we are not bad parents we got Karlee for a number of reasons, we read up carefully on which type of dog to get and on the plus side our sons allergies had shown major improvement (my son used to be on 2 inhalers daily, took allergy medicine daily, allergy shots once a week and took breathing treatments if it got very bad we went from this issue to where his asthma and allergies had almost completely cleared up except a couple times a year with weather changes) so we really honestly thought it would be okay to have a housepet, we read into Yorkie's and heard from others how they are good for people with allergies but last night they treated us like we were crazy telling us no matter what breed if someone has dog allergies they should'nt be exposed to them living indoor with them:thumbdown:eek::mad: is what I felt! We love Karlee but should we seriously rehome her? I don't know what to do anymore and now my family are worried sick they are all convinced its Karlee causing it too so I feel torn right now even after last night my Hubby was ready to say we needed to rehome her- it was very scary last night going through all that and now I'm even having my fears and doubts. I sure don't want to keep going through what we went through last night:( we all love Karlee but in this situation we may be forced to rehome her. My son goes to his allergy specialist tomorrow hopefully my concerns and fears can be realived a little when we talk to that doctor and see what we can do over this situation. I'm in tears right now but my Kid's health is on my mind I can't live with the fact that we are daily battling hives and having to make ER visits when it might can be elimanated...You all here at YT are very kind and I felt like writing all this tonight to get this off my chest for support right now. I am not turning my back on Karlee but my Kids come first...we love Karlee but I know there is good homes out there that can give Karlee a great life if we can't its sad for our situation if it comes to rehoming Karlee. I don't know what else to say right now, I will update tomorrow after my sons allergy specialist visit and maybe will feel better then... |

Until then, the only thing worrying will accomplish is to make you more stressed (which is not good since long term stress lowers the body's defenses, and your family needs you!) If there is a way you and your doctor can help you deal with whatever it is you're having your allergic reactions to, I am sure they will find it. Also meant to add, that while some people with animal allergies can have pets... some can't. In the end, your allergist will be your best bet in helping to decide that (as they are the most knowledgeable.) Good luck! I hope everything works out for your family and you can find a way to keep Karlee. |
