| Update on our Gracie Oh my, where to start. Well, just in case you aren’t familiar with the story….Gracie is Adie and Skeeter’s mother. The breeder decided to decrease her “breeding stock” and asked if I wanted her and of course I did so she came to live with us about a month ago. When she got there I was shocked to see the condition of her skin. She has a really bad flea allergy and every bit of hair she could reach had been bitten off or pulled out due to the itching. She had black dots all over her skin. I had to give her a flea bath immediately because I actually found fleas on her. (I don’t see how anyone could let their dog get in that shape and still not keep the fleas off!) She was so thin I hated picking her up for fear of breaking her. You could count her ribs from across the room. The breeder said that due to a broken leg that was pinned when she was less than a year old she was supposed to stay thin. The vet told her not to stress the leg. We got her in to our vet within a week and got her cortisone shot and had her spayed. We also got X-rays of her leg which looked good in our vet’s opinion and “she should have no problem carrying a little more weight.” Emotionally she seemed reserved and shy but fell in love with my husband and immediately took over his lap while giving him kisses and loving gazes. She would watch the other dogs with great interest but would not join in on the play. She doesn’t seem to know what a toy is for. She and my 10-year old Shih Tzu seemed to come to an understanding right away and became very comfortable with each other. They frequently share a large dog pillow we have on the floor. I look at them and have to admit that I now own two of the sweetest dogs in the world. (The other two are just terrors.) One thing that kind tugs at my heart is the way Gracie stiffens up when you try to cuddle her. She will snuggle in beside you or behind you on the couch but she doesn’t want to have anything to do with cuddles. She gives lots of kisses though. She has gained weight. We can’t see her ribs or backbone from across the room but we can feel them. Her hair is growing in nicely; all her skin is covered now but she has a bad case of dog dandruff. I don’t know what to do about it. I’ve tried medicated shampoos, Omega 3, and oatmeal everything. I am hoping that it is just the skin repairing itself after all the problems with fleas but we will see. My dh wants me to use Head and Shoulders on her! Lately, she has started loving the back yard. She runs to the door when you say outside and then when she gets there she runs as fast as she can to all 4 corners before she squats. She and the other two yorkies chased a big rabbit out of the yard yesterday. I wonder what they would have done if they had actually caught it. It was bigger that two of them put together! It is now a habit for the three of them to race to the back right corner the minute I open the door. LOL. She has gotten braver with Adie and Skeeter. She even scolded Adie for barking in her face one morning. She put a paw on top of her and just held her there. Adie actually submitted! Skeeter has had his nose bitten once for trying to steal her dog treat. All in all they are getting along just fine even if they don’t play together. Gracie did grab a toy the other night and took it to the couch where she squeaked it a few times then deserted it. There is hope. |

| Its really good to get a update...i had been wondering how things were going. Its good that she has settled in with the pack and hopefully she will eventually love her cuddles. My first dog was 10 when i rescued her and she had been badly treated. She didnt know how to play, and wouldnt come for cuddles to start with, but after about 6 months i finally got a cuddle and then she was hooked on them! I used to sit on the floor and she would come into my arms and rest her chin on my shoulder while i whispered in her ear and gave her a big hug. She was a collie whippet cross and i loved her so much...i cried when she trusted me enough for the cuddle. Im sure it will happen with your little girl and will be so rewarding when it comes. Seeing a badly treated rescue dog blossom into a snuggle bug is wonderful. You are doing a great job..xx |

| Gracie is so very lucky to have you and your family. Poor thing, sounds like she was in pitiful condition. Shame on that breeder! What counts now is a new life for Gracie. Thank you for taking such good care of her and loving her.

| I remember when you posted about getting Gracie, it seems like she has had a life of no affection. I am so glad she is know in a loving home, and with people who will show her love and attention. Gracie will come around, she is already showing signs of that, I am so glad!

| I hope these aren't too small. The first photo is Gracie after we had her for a few days. The pj's are X-Small. The second is after a couple of weeks and the third was taken after 1 month. |

| The pics are perfect. She is such a pretty little girl. She certainly looks more relaxed and comfy in that last pic.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Glad to see an update on Gracie. Her skin looks SO much better in the third pic then it does in the first pic so whatever you are doing is working great. her skin is still repairing itself so its gonna take some time. I give mine Coconut oils drizzled on her food. She loves it and it helps her coat. Have you asked your vet about her skin? does he think its just dry skin that's irritated from the flea bites/allergy? did he ever do a skin scrape to make sure its not bacteria or mites? Also, very glad to here she's put on a few ounces so her bones aren't sticking out anymore. She looks great in the latest picture

Gracie's skin has continued to improve. The flakes are smaller and seem to be going away. Her neck is still a little bad and last night I found some little bumps on the back of her neck. I guess it is vet time. | |

| Awww! She sounds like she's coming around nicely. I have to use extra conditioner on mine and I leave it set for 2-3 minutes (massage time). If I don't, he gets flakey. And I use human stuff on him. I tried all dog stuff, but he gets really flakey on it. Except Biogroom, their stuff is coconut oil based (great for skin) and tearless! So far he's doing great!
