Eye Boogers

Ms. Bella Joi is going to be 3 and for the past 3 years we have suffered with LOTS of eye boogies. I clean her eyes each morning and each night with a warm wash rag...but it still doesn't get it all. Then the eye goop hardens and eventually needs to be cut out...leaving us with funny hair cuts. Does anyone else have this issue? It must be so uncomfy for her! But I also feel bad digging in trying to get it out. Any suggestions or similar stories?

I first use a tissue to wipe out the HUGE globs of boogers. Then I use a wet cotton ball to remove the gunk. Then I use a tissue again to dry that area.

I'm not sure if this will help, but the vet told me to get a little vaseline and put it down on the hair that is around the eyes and muzzle. She said that the little hairs will prick their eyes causing them to run creating the boogers. You might want to try a little and see if it helps. If anything, it should help to get the booger out easier without it crisping up.

My Timba is 3 yrs also and he has that same problem with the goopy in the eyes... I clean it with aloe baby wipes and it comes right off... sometimes it gets a little hard but I keep wiping it until it comes off.... I hate eye boogers or goopy eyes as we call it here..

Basil usually has this and each week at bath time I allow them to soak while I do the rest and by the end and time to rinse, it comes right out. My other 2 do not have this BUT I think Basil does because she has small ahirs that irritate her eyes. I will be so happy when this grows out! Yucky groomer cut all her hair off her head!

My Bogie has eye boogers really bad also. I had some suggestions that I found during a search on yt: changed drinking water to distilled (make sure it is the distilled that is ok to drink, not for use in appliances) and to cleanse the eye area with contact lens saline solution. I changed drinking water 1 week ago Tuesday and the eye boogers have almost 99% stopped. I was amazed, I could see a difference in just 2 days. There are still a few stains but they are fading away.

Jackson had it bad at one point while eating another food, have you ever thought about maybe a food allergy, possibly? Just an idea.

When we first got Roxy, she had fresh eye goobers every day. Once I got her weaned onto a quality kibble, they cleared up almost right away. She hardly gets them anymore. You might want to try another brand food. She gets filtered tap water. Has vet determined any particular reason for them?

I've always cleaned the goobers away with a wet/warm paper towel to soften them up before wiping them away. Have never had to cut them out.

There are these wipe things that you can use, and I've gotten them at walmart. Joey used to have lots more than he does, I'm not sure if it's because of food or what, but he's on an all natural dog food.

I use the wipes from walmart too...really the only product from there I've found that I've liked a lot. I think they're essentially watered down topical acne pads. But they definitely do a number of eye boogies! Especially when I don't notice her boogies for a couple days because her fur covers them up...they do a good job of loosening up hard ones and getting rid of the stains. Stella doesn't seem to mind when I use them (so I don't think they burn), other than she licks her snout a lot when I'm done.

Not sure, I have heard of distilled water, a quality food- allergy?, and Angel Eyes for staining. Good luck.
