| ![]() Do any of you have a story behind the names of your pets? For example, my toy poodle's name was Zach. He was a gift from my aunt for my 16th birthday. This aunt had lost her 23 year old son (named Jason) several years before this. By chance, Zach's sire's name was Jason's Yankee Patch and his dam's name was Harbin's Precious Gem. So when deciding on Zach's AKC name, I combined the two and came up with Jason's Precious Memory. Then I chose Zachary as his call name because it means Remembered by God. Chloe's name doesn't have such a neat story, though. I'm a huge fan of all things Irish, particularly clovers/shamrocks. So I wanted to call her Clover, but it just didn't quite fit her. So we shortened it to Chloe and gave her the middle name Belle (...you have to have something to call them when they are in trouble!!) ![]() So, how about you? Do you have a story for how you came up with your names? -C

| ![]() On our first date we went to see the movie "The fifth element" and the name Leeloo Dallas Multipass stuck with my hubby since then. We have 2 children and drive a Honda Element. So when we decided to get our puppy we couldn't all agree on a name until my hubby said "what about Leeloo Dallas?" and we all said YES! She's "the fifth element" of our family ![]()

I had wonderful memories there before my parents divorced and tore it all up. So when I got my GP I decided to bring it full circle. Great thread!!!! Love all the stories!!!! Especially yorkieagility's ![]()

| ![]() I love music and most of my pets have been named after songs. My yorkie's name is "Mr. Mojo Risin' " after the Doors' song. My Arabian gelding's name is "Jokerman" from a Bob Dylan song. My cat's name is Smokey, but she was already named when I got her. ![]() ![]()

| ![]() My beloved Bichon, Emma passed the week after Memorial Day in 2008. I wasn't planning on getting another dog or even think about one until THIS summer. One day I went looking and came across this beautiful Morkie. Needless to say she came to me last September. I truly believe she was sent to me by Emma. I decided to name her Bella Mia....my beauty because of my fondness for having been to Italy in 2002. She is the love of my life and brings me joy each and every day. Many think her name came from the movie hit Twilight...but I haven't read the books nor seen the movie. I can see that many YT members have named theirs Bella as well. ![]() She is called Bellamia....Bellaboo....Pretty girl.....and responds to anything. She loves being the center focus of attention....loves being petted and cuddled...enjoys traveling....and this summer went swimming in her life vest in the Thousand Islands. I can't imagine my life before her and give thanks daily that somehow our paths crossed when I least expected it. ![]() |

| ![]() We had Baxter for a week before we came up with a name. All the names I wanted my husband would say - well I know someone I don't like with that name. I was reading a Jack Higgins book and there is a minor character in all of his books named Baxter so I said what about that and it stuck. We didn't register Baxter so that is his only name. Nothing fancy. He's been neutered and I just didn't go to the trouble of registering. We give him a different middle name from time to time based on his behaviour - IE Tazmanian devil! |

| ![]() I have been a big fan of Disney movies for years. Needless to say I can repeat the lines to so many movies that it drove my parents nuts. Well when I first got my girl it took me awhile to figure out who I wanted to call her after. I looked up all the princess I could think of and Briar Rose popped up. Briar is the princess off of Sleeping Beauty. So I named her Briar Raeley Rose for her papers, we just call her Raeley. Now when I got my son his little guy I figured we would keep with the Disney theme and the prince off of Sleeping Beauty is Prince Phillip. So my son's little guys is named Prince Riley Phillip, and we just call him Riley. Now for when their litter gets here I think I will call all the babies Disney character names to continue the trend.

| ![]() My father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 66 in January. I got my first dog in May. I named her after my dad : Camel. Camel was my dad's nickname because he ran so slow. Her name was supposed to be Sayres after Gayle Sayres. I have a cat named Piccolo after Brian Piccolo and a cat named Sweetness after Walter Payton (all Chicago Bears players). I had two cats that have passed away Dizzy Dean (Chicago Cubs) and Shoeless Joe Jackson (Chicago Black Sox). |
