| Puppy Training Classes, when to start them? What age is the appropriate age to start enrolling a puppy in training classes? The trainer at PetSmart said that anytime between 8-10 weeks, but she won't have all her shots by then, i thought she needed to stay home until at least 16 weeks when her shots were all completed and another 2 weeks go by after that... i don't want her to get sick around other dogs, and the other dogs are always on leash, but still should Sadie be around any other dogs until she's done with shots?? someone shed light here on who was right? |

| We also enrolled Sophie into puppy class after all her shots. The vet and trainer recommended it. I think it's better to be safe than sorry. |

| I took Bailey to puppy training class to Petsmart AFTER he had all his shots, THAT'S what the trainer suggested. I think I has to prove he had all his shots too. I didn't know about taking your dog to petsmart at the time and transferring everything at the time. Now I wouldn't take Bailey there!

YT 2000 Club Member | I would hold off on any classes for your puppy till she was fully vaccinated. I have no clue why the trainer would suggest that 8 to 10 weeks was a good age to start training , puppies are not finished with their shots at that point You can get some training in yourself in the safety of your own home to give her a head start. Go to your local Library and see what books they have on puppy training and go from their. Now about other dogs around your Sadie...When I first was getting my Jeter, I did ask my vet about him going around my moms Yorkies only cause I did not want to leave Jeter alone at such a young age at Christmas time. My vet said that as long as I knew that they were up to date on shots then I could let him go around them. So Iwas very confortable taking them over to my moms. My vet also said that going to a pet store, puppy park, or the vet office is not a good place to let a unvaccinated pup walk around because you have NO clue what the other animals might of be exposing your pup to. I still keep my Yorkies in the puppy purse when I go to the vets office, cause I do not know what other peoples pets are their for so I keep mine safe away from them Best of luck to you with little Sadie.

| ive read several articles about this & they all say that you need to enroll them before 16 weeks, it says they will learn better if they are enrolled before that time period. my vet told me that it was fine. we cant find one around us other wise we would ave casanova in one already. but i also know lots of people who wait till their dogs have all thei needed shots before & they learn just as well. we had casanovas shots taken care of asap so he's good to go just have to find one around here! good luck! |

| We started at Petsmart when Stella was 5 months; she graduates in two weeks! She's done really well with the clicker training, but she does get really distracted by the other dogs and acts crazy during class (even though she's usually super calm at home). The trainer thought it was because the rest of her class was little boys but it didn't change much after she was spayed. Regardless, she's learning, but I've been working on it a lot with her at home. I think that's the important thing anyway. Before we started classes, I had already taught her to sit, come, and lay down without a clicker--I just read some internet articles on the best way to do it positively, it's not that difficult once you understand how to go about teaching behaviors. I would wait a couple months, but that doesn't mean you can't give her a good head start before you start class |

| I won't even put Missy on the floor at Petsmart WITH all her puppy shots done. That's how overly protective I am
