Yeah I was thinking about first introducing it in the living room and giving him a treat everytime he goes in there and then once he starts to like it, then at night put him in it right on the table beside my bed so he's right next to me sleeping. I"m just worried that he won't be able to hold his pee... I'll get a smaller one then the one i posted a few min. ago... Quote:

This may not be the answer you want, but I want to tell you my experience...I was, totally, unable to housebreak Apple, even using Nature's Miracle, and other products...After I ripped up the carpet, and put laminate down (most inexpensive one I could find), Apple was housebroken in about a week or ten days...I'm sure other ppl have had success w/carpet, but I don't think you can really get to the pad, and those noses can smell a millimeter spot of urine...It's like the old stains/smells are enticing them to go there...Good luck, but if you are in a position to change the carpet out, I'd do it...I still have carpet in the bedrooms and hallway, but I have that part of the house gated off so Apple can't go there...Maybe when she's older, and I'm absolutely, positively sure she won't go on the carpet, I'll open the rest of the house up to her...All the best to You!!! |
i use resolve carpet cleaner for pets..you can find it at your local supermarket.just follow the directions and it works wonders! |
Bailey just turned 5 and he gets up at least 2 to 3 times during the night to pee and once to poop. He even poops after dinner. The little guy Poops like 4 times a day! But he pees A LOT! I'm wondering if it's because the pads have always been available to him so he's never had to hold it? Quote:

what do you feed him that makes him poop that often? we feed a raw recipe and she only goes 1 time a day maybe 2 occasionally because she gets a little kibble sometimes when i'm can't feed on a regular schedule. if he's peeing way more than every 2-3 hours he might have a bladder problem? |

He's 5 years old! He's got chronic pancreatitis and IBD, so I have him on a strict diet.... He's on Natural Bal. Fish & Potato, green beans, supplements, cod, etc. poor little guy was having diarreah all the time before then. Now, he's normal and feeling oh so good! It's the peeing that I worry about, although I wonder if it's because he's never had to hold it? He does drink a lot of water... He's such a good boy! I just love him so much and would do anything for him! Quote:

i've never used the belly band, when reading Housetraining for Dummies or maybe it was another book but one of them on housetraining it said that using a belly band will only teach a dog that it's okay to pee in a diaper and takes away the natural instinct of the animal to not wet itself, it's bed, or be close to it's urine or feces...i think they are like diapers for dogs, they pee themselves which goes against all primal instinct not to pee/poop where you sleep or on yourself. but lots of people use them and like them for bedtime so feel free to do whatever you choose, i don't want to ever force anyone to do something, just thought i'd offer up some of what i've read about them.... good luck in whatever method you try!!! :) if belly bands aren't diapers like the female versions, then forget what i said about the wetting themselves, i researched them more, looks like the hold the dogs potty parts so they can't wet rather than diapering him your dog actually might be marking his territory, that's probably why he pees so much, i forgot all about that possibilitly. is he neutered?? if not and he's 5 yrs. or 5 months it's possible he is marking |
