What have you learned from YT? I admit I spend a lot of time on YT just oohing and ahhing over the cute Yorkies with the rest of you, but I've also learned a lot of potentially life-saving things in the short time I've been here. Here are a few of them. What have you learned? Nylabones are good; sticks are bad Car seats are not just for sissy dogs Yorkies can do agility Small Yorkies are prone to medical problems Liver shunt can be treated Rawhide bones and greenies can be dangerous When in doubt, go to the vet. When you doubt your vet, get a second opinion |
Grapes!! Quote:
WoW, it's really quiet this early in the morning. I could go on forever on things I have learned but knowing that "grapes" were so dangerous was my biggest surprise. |
Yeah, I was surprised to see you up. I get off work at 1:30 a.m. Alaska time, and I'm often the only one here. It's now 3 and about bedtime. I forgot about the grapes. That's a good one! |
I have learned that you need to have money in a savings account, because when these lil' babys get sick you need to get them to the vet. I have also learned that the people here on YT love there babies so very much and will be there for you when you need advice! :D To all those proud mommy's and daddy's out there  for posting soooo many cute pix ! :p |
- Harness is better than leash - It is a good thing to spay your dog between 1st and second heat if it is not going to be used for breeding - Corn is bad - Chocolate and grapes are bad - You can teach them to use a bell to signal getting out - Yorkielovers are the same all over the world! :D |
I have learned that I am not off the deep end all by myself and that you can make 'friends' with people you have never actually seen or spoken to. I have learned to downsize pictures (that was a big deal for me) and that my computer won't actually melt if I leave it on all the time, making it much more convienient to check in as I whiz past the thing. I have learned to type with one hand and comb with the other. not much slower than with both... I didn't know it was possible to type in baby talk and the chew deterrent deodorant trick is a good one. |

Things I've learned: Grapes are bad Harnesses are good What a liver shunt it There are different types of coats How to trim the hair by their eyes Bitches have to be a certain weight to breed I know I am missing a ton of things, those are just a few! |
i have gotten a great wealth of information, these are some of the things that i think will stick with me forever. 1. i'm not alone in my obsession with yorkies. 2. i'm not the only one who can stay up all night talking. 3. i didn't know it was possible to talk, let alone type, in doggy/baby talk. 4. i didn't know you could make such great friends, even if i've never met them. 5. i didn't know about the deoderant trick to make them stop chewing, thats pretty neat! 6. i learned that its always best to use a harness, not a collar. 7. no matter what pet store you buy from, more than likely they're from puppy mills. 8. and i think one of the biggest things i've learned on here is......there's no such thing as teacups!! |
I have learned several good informations from breeders and I really thanks them for their generosities . |

I've learned that you can toss & turn all night worrying about a lost/sick furbaby and their families - yet you'll probably never meet them!! And like Megan said it would take hours to list everything, but grapes was a big one for me to! |
guish , i think that everyone has learned something on YT. the list is indeed too long to name. some questions have been asked that was thought to be dumb or stupid. for my self, i am glad they were asked. some things that i never even thought about also. numerous topics have helped me in so many ways. i owe thanks to many many of the members here. |
Everything you need to learn in Life you can learn from Yorkietalk!!! Now, who's going to write THAT book?????? :yelrotflm |
i have learned from yt that everyone has an opinion and we should respect them and try to learn from each other's experiences... i have also learned about alot of wonderful people who love yorkies as much as i do and it made me not feel like "the crazy yorkie lady" in my town! lol lol i have learned about alot of people who make wonderful clothes and bows for yorkies that i didnt know about before....i have learned that yt is a great place to meet others with my same interests... :) |
Ive learned things like there is no teacup yorkie. Chocolate is bad for dogs. etc. But mainly I have learned what a devoted group of dog enthusiasts yorkie talkers are. I really enjoy this forum and love reading all the posts. |
I have learned that : Harnesses is safer for yorkies. Chocolates, grapes and onions are bad for Yorkies. Brushing their teeths is a most. There are different types of coats. Any questions that i may have someone in YT will have the answer. Everyone in YT is fun, caring, supporting and helpful. And last but not least that I can get addicted to a site were I find people with my same love to Yorkies. :) |
All of the above! What I've learned the best is that through bad times, you find out who your true friends are. Also, I've learned that you can argue tactfully with someone you may not always see eye to eye with. |

I can personally mention 2 members in this week alone that are did something out of the kindness of their hearts - Brenda...minniemn ....and Joy....and I am always in awe of what great members this site really does have. People are always willing to share their knowledge and laugh at each others stories - I've learned so much about yorkies by posting and reading that I feel I could become a BREEDER ! lol - JUST FREAKIN KIDDING ~! but I HAVE learned tons and you can't get THAT by searching the net. On another note just so you all know what to do in a Bad Storm - I learned in a hurricane that Men like Meatloaf....Can you believe I cooked a meatloaf yesterday ? My husband wanted it ....and I was like - ARE YOU SERIOUS ? then Kimberly pm'd me and SHE made a Meatloaf for HER husband - lol - so during a Hurricane - COOK A MEATLOAF ! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D |

LOLOLOLOL! Villette and I both made...HURRI-LOAFS!!!!! LOLOLOLOL! |
things I've learned from yorkie talk I've thought of one more: You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! that includes me :) |
Greenies are ok if you let them only eat to the half way point. It's a pretty expensive treat. I prefer apples and green beans. The most important lesson I have learned is I hurt as much as you do when I read that just one yorkie (or other breed for that matter) has been hurt or lost. I have never had yorkies before and they are so close to my heart now. I have learned about puppy mills and how harmful they are. I have learned that one day I will try to get a picture on the site. |
hurrie-loafs how funny! that you both made one! please please post your recipes. we all want to make sure to make the same kind if we encounter a hurricane... :p |
I have learned tons of stuff from this site, some about Yorkshire Terriers and some not. But the best thing about this site is the awesome people. And the worst thing about this site is I spend way to much time here!! I do need to get a life! :p |
Great answers! It's good to have them in one spot, too. I'm gonna save this thread. I realized belatedly after posting that some of my "lessons" were open to interpretation. Greenies, for Eddie, are bad because he's a chomper. Sticks, for Eddie, are bad because he swallows them and I find them in his stool. And I hope I didn't offend any owners of small yorkies by saying they are prone to health problems. I meant to say, be careful when buying a small Yorkie because some are more prone to health problems. |

I know all of us in Texas and LA were TRULY TOUCHED this week - I'm actually in awe of the people here and the friendships I've made with other yorkie people - It really is like one big family. I couldn't say this enough - YORKIE PEOPLE ROCK ! |
OH OH i remember ONE more thing!! i read a very interesting post, and i learned that most of us have eaten a spider in our sleep!!! :D oh yes, and also that when a bad time comes along, we offer our best support and comfort that we can. even if we have never really "met" we still feel like we know these people, and consider them our friends. i think that we have learned you don't have to see people to know they're your friends. |
