Thanks for sharing all of your great stories!! I'm really enjoying hearing about how other people come up with names for their pets. I have to admit that Dasha Pepper Ann Salt is just adorable!!

Well Kaji's name came from an Anime. The character by this name was a ladies man, smooth and always had girls throwing themselves at him. I liked the name cause I thought it was cute, short, and different. Little did I know my Little Kaji Bear would be a ladies man! He only follows me or my mom arround, and I have lost count of how many times he's slipped a paw, or his head down my shirt in the 2 short weeks I've had him.... yeah I got a dirty little boy that really likes the girls!
My boy's full name is Kaji Peter. The Peter part really has no significance, it's the name of my school's mascot, Peter the Anteater (UCI). I liked it and thought it would help my parents learn his name, and pronounce it. They are native spanish speakers, and spanish is the language we use at home, I thought Peter would be easier for them to say. Instead, my boy has several names at my parents house. He's "Kachis," "chiquiado" (meaning spoiled), poopies, and my favorite "cachito." The last one actually has a story behind it. Cachito means a tiny bit of something. My parents both grew up on farms in Mexico where each had a dog. The dogs they had were big dogs. Then Kaji came into the picture and when they saw him, all 6 lbs of him, they thought he was a puppy. I told them he was fully grown and they said he was a "cachito" of a dog because he is so small.

As a teen and young adult my whole life was music. Motley Crue was and is my favorite band, when I went to pick my puppy out there was one running around slipping everywhere, crashing over his brother and just being generally nuts. I picked him up and as we sat in the car a Motley crue song came on the radio and he went crazy, running and jumping almost like he does now after a bath. As soon as the song ended he crawled back up in my lap and went to sleep. My mom then told me that he is a perfect fit with my family because he's wild and crazy just like that band i'm always listening to, so I knew I had his name MOTLEY. As he's gotten older its just more of a perfect fit everyday.

We have two soon to be three-

Roxie got her name after Roxie Hart from the musical Chicago! It is perfect she is my little stinker and puts on the sweetest front!

Ryder we got after my hubby was in an accident in his semi- I told him that when he was potty trained that Ryder would be his little riding buddy, turns out Ryder is not a rider at all!

Kenworth is our newest boy and I still am debating the name but my hubby loves it! He had always drove a Kenworth truck and when he was in his accident that truck didnt crumble it saved him and I thought it would have some meaning to us. We will see...

Maverick got his name from Tom Cruise's character in the movie Top Gun. He was and is always trying to get away with something and then acting charming to get away with it. I registered him as Maverick's Peppercorn though after our beloved late miniature schnauzer Roberta's Peppercorn (Pepper).

Cosmo is in truth named after Kramer from Seinfeld. We I got him he was in the awkward teenage stage and he had this funky wavy head hair that stood straight up! However, he is registered as Jupiter's Cosmic Psyche. I went the astrological route though with his offical name...Jupiter because happy/merry, are moods ascribed to Jupiter's astrological influence. And he is one happy litle dog.

Winston doesn't really have a long naming story. When I first saw his photos (webpage of the breeder since he was a sire she was selling) my first thought was "he's not a Copper, he seems more like a Winston to me".

No idea why on earth I thought it... but I did. In the end it seems pretty fitting to me. Depending on who you listen to, a lot of places/sources will say the name Winston means "Joy" of "stone of joy".

True meaning or not, he really is my stone of joy!

I was going to name mine Chloe too but instead I kept her name Niyah because that is all she knew for the 2 years her previous owner called her so I thought she should keep the same name. Plus, I thought Niyah was a pretty orginal name she came up with. So i am hoping when I register her, the name Niyah is available.

We got Wylie first - and he is named after one of me and hubby's favorite poets, Elinor Wylie. His full name is Wylie "The Floop" Fitzsmudge. Fitzsmudge came from the fact we almost named him "Smudge" and bc my cat's last name was Fitzgerald. "The Floop" is his nickname and we use it as much as, if not more than, we use Wylie.

Marcel Verdel Purcell is named after Marcel Proust and "Verdell", the dog in "As Good As It Gets" - and then he needed a 3rd name of course, so he instantly became....Marcel Verdel Purcell.

Scrubs is one of our favorite tv shows. I wanted a silly name to match my guys personality and Turkleton seemed like a good fit. We mostly call him "Turky" or just "Turk", but once in a while(mostly when he gets into trouble) we use his full name. lol

Frankie didn't acquire is name for several days when we had him. We kind of wanted everyone in the family to agree on it. My longtime friend, Frank is my vet. We like Frank Sinatra--so our puppy became Frankie. My vet dotes on his namesake and Frankie gets very special treatment there.

We have 4 human kids and they each had ideas for what to name our "someday" dog. They had seen pictures of our puppy but did not know it was ours. Instead of having them fight when we actually got the dog, we decided to tell them the owners already named him.
We emailed the list to the family. When they saw "Chewbacca" they laughed and said they were already calling him that because his face kind of looked like the star wars character. He was also the first to get his teeth and start chewing on everything. We call him Choo Choo quite often.
So funny that there is a "Frankie" here because that is what my 5 year old wanted. We have no idea why except it is cute.

Default Sunshine

We named our furbaby Sunshine because we like being able to say we have sunshine everywhere we go We sing all the "sunshine" songs to him (except "Walking on Sunshine", lol). Some people seem to think it is a funny name for a Boy but he does have a great disposition so we think it suits him Very well. His full name is Sunshine Stardust Honey Jazz on his CKC papers (to reflect his dam and sire's pedigrees).

Bluebelle was almost called Leeloo for from that film!

I can't remember what we were going to call her, I think it was Pebbles that we had agreed on. But the breeder wouldn't let us touch the babies until the day we took them home and the moment I held her, I just knew she was Bluebelle. It all fitted, she was born the day Tinkerbelle had died and I just felt it.
