And for the record, if my dog wants to lick me- I know what he has been eating and I know his teeth have been brushed. The tongue up the nose kind of grosses me out though...

It was someone else that said dogs mouth's have antiseptic qualities compared to humans, which they don't since humans and dogs saliva contain basically the same exact enzymes just some enzymes in humans are lower such as GF-I and TGF-α which are responsible for inducing antimicrobial peptides. Dog's saliva like humans also, do contain compounds that promote healing and their saliva has antibacterial enzymes and antiviral as well. What is dangerous and harmful is too much licking of wounds. It can cause lick granuloma or infection in animals since most lesions are infected with bacteria. Humans licking their own wounds can promote healing too like in animals, but as my vet strongly recommended - is that you confine yourself to licking your own wounds if you feel the need to do that. And YES there are serious health hazards in wound licking due to infection risk, especially in immunocompromised patients.

I love my puppy kisses! On my lips, up my nose, even trying to "clean" my ears, lol. She's so funny. I don't mind at all! I think it's sweet.

Trixie is a real big kisser!! I am not a fan of letting her kiss on the lips though....but I love her kisses on my cheeks, chin etc. I just keep my lips away from her!! Yorkie kisses are the best!!

What a great thread. I love Yorkies kisses. I start kissing them the day they are born. All of my yorkies will come running when I call them to give me kisses no matter where they are.
Once a women came to look at a puppy I had for sale, she pushed her away from her face when the puppy started to kiss her. She said that she didn't like any dog that close to her face. I just could not sell her the puppy after that.
I know that everyone has their own opinion about this, which is a good thing, but, for myself, I love to give and get those sweet kisses.

penny eats out of my bowl while im eating out of it and if im having ice cream or yogurt she licks the spoon im using but i get grossed out if my collie licks me anywhere

is it cuz shes bigger i let bunny drink outta my glass or sometimes i give her alil bit of ice tea in a tiny bottle cap. I know its not good but we both love ice tea +( as for the kisses they make me feel special. Im currently trying to mark that behavior

I mean..I've seen some ppl tongue kiss their dogs..LITERALLY lol But That's not something I do. I am constantly kissing my dogs, but i will kiss them on the nose. or even on their mouth but with my mouth closed..no need to swap spit..ewwww And i let them lick like my cheek or nose occasionally but its usually me giving them kisses cause i wear make up

I have no problem with puppy kisses, but Im not sure I would feel the same about Roxie drinking out of my glass or eating out of my bowl. Personal preferences I guess..lol..My aunt had a pekinigse mix and she would let her do that, but it grossed me out a little..lol..Maybe Im just weird? lol

I love my kisses I get from Rox and Char Char! I am picky though....it cann't be right after they eat, I brush their teeth daily, no tongue! LOL No eating off plates or out of glasses! But if we are out and they are thirsty I will give them my bottled water.....cause I wub dem so much! They DO NOT kiss the vet though thank goodness! I wouldn't like that at all. I'll admit I am OCD over things but when it come to my furr-babies they get by with a little more

yup... puppy kisses are awesome. Kobe gives them all the time, i'll let him drink out of my water bottle when we are out of the house. I dont mind at all. glad he isn't a poop eater

I don't particularly like when they stick their tounge in my mouth but I don't freak out either when it happens. It's like they are in a contest to see who can give mommy more kisses than the other and it don't matter how or where they kiss me, cheeks, nose eyes, neck mouth. lol
