| Do you know if the breeder crated her up at night time? Sometimes if that wasn't the case it does take them longer to get used to it. Have you tried treats for going in? I know it is difficult, but you might have to put her in there and leave the house for about 10 minutes and come back, she will she that you are not leaving her for good. She will get the hang of things, she is just a puppy and they are alot of work, but very well worth it! Mary |

| Yes we tried the treats that is the only time she is quiet while she is eating it. We just tried today to take a 15 minute drive and came back she was still crying and barking. Been a long 7 days LOL Yes she was crated previously that is why I am so suprised by this. Last edited by DABRATCAROL; 08-05-2009 at 01:55 PM. Reason: to add |

| Here are some tips: Leave the crate open (and maybe even just the bottom part for awhile) with her blanket in it and put her favoite toy and a bully stick/treat/whatever she likes in it. Kepp it where ever you spend most of the day with her (in the living room or where ever) and let her get used to it. Then you can add the top and door. Also you should try feeding her in the crate. When it's feeding time put her bowl in there. This will teach her that the crate=good things. Also you can put *very* tastey treats under her blankets (when she's not looking) so that she gets something special "from her crate." Also, if possible, don't take her out when she is crying...this will teach her that if she cries you will let her out. Sometimes just letting her see you will make her stop crying and then you can say "good girl" and let her out. Best of luck! |

| Leo hated being put in his crate...in fact he is about 2 years old and still hates being put in his crate. I tried everything and he would bark his head off. For 20 minutes straight he would bark. I only put him in his crate when I absolutely have to. He is potty trained so I can leave him loose in the house when we are gone. The strange thing is that the few times I have had to leave him with someone away from the house he would go into his crate on his own. |

| Jazzie turned out to hate her crate at first, I got her a bigger one and she did fine in it, I then realized she has claustrophobia issues. If the crate does not work how about ... I leave Lexie in a childs x pen, Walmart.com: North State - Superyard XT Portable Playard and Gate: Gear like this but with 4 panels, in it is her bed, water, toys and a pipi pad. This xpen sits on top of a thick plastic that I purchased at the fabric store, it is wider then the xpen so Lex can't take a corner and chew on it. This plastic is her floor and it makes for easy clean up. I leave the radio on for her when I am away. I hope this helps. Good luck.

| We also left the crate door open on his first day home and treated Kimbo for just walking a step inside to retrieve the treat. Then later the first day we closed the door and tried to make it for 2 minutes. My husband would lay by the crate on the floor with him, sing a quiet lullaby, and put his fingers in there with him. Kimbo would get really close to his hands and lick them. When we made it to 2 min, we tried later for 5. Then for 7 or 8. We eventually worked our way up to 1 hr. that first day. He slept all night in it with potty breaks every 2 hours. |

| I feel your pain! I have a litter of 10 week old pups and they sure can make their wishes known! What I do to get them used to the crate is I block off the kitchen so that's the only area they can run around in when they are not supervised. In one corner, I have the crate with the door open and I put some puppy kibble inside. They think it's a treat and they will go in there and now they will sleep in there on their own. I have not actually locked them in there all night long. I think with their other siblings running around, that would not go over too big but I might have to try tackling that soon as they will be going to their new homes soon and I just want to get them ready so that they have as little stress as possible when they leave here. |

| At first Ella hated her crate but she loooves it now. I just never let her out while she was crying. I would talk to her when she cried and would tell her "its ok" in a firm, but nice, voice (no gooey baby talk like she was getting rewarded).. Then as soon as she stopped even for a second I would say good girl and give her a treat. After doing this 3 times, on the 4th time that she got quiet I would let her out to play. I guess she learned that bein quiet was a good thing.
