Interesting I know this is an evocative subject, but what products do you use, are they only tested by humans? |
No actually. After I found this I was surprised, to say the least, how many products in my own house are actually tested on animals. Sad really. :( I'm not vegan or a vegiterian either. |
I also note that glaxo smith Kline are on your list Companies such as these develop the drugs that keep us alive Pennicilin was developed in the early forties as the first antibiotic, it was tested on mice, without these tests undoubtably there would have been tens of thousands of deaths from the battle injuries of the second world war. Would you not take a life saving drug because of how it was developed, what you let your child die of an infection, because it is unethically correct to give it to your child. I admire your views, but I think they are flawed. |
The reason I posted this was the title, companies to boycott. |

That was just the name of the artical (I cut and pasted) |
Retract...... I was just sharing information. I didn't post this thread to cause any controversy. :( |
As a young boy growing up in the 50's, at school I witnessed kids in leg irons who were disabled with poliomyalitis, I saw kids with smallpox, kids had TB. These diseases were rife around the world, the research done on animals, produced the vaccines to combat these killer diseases, as a result, we all now live longer and do not die at young ages. Sorry if I have gone a bit over but I have seen these diseases in my lifetime and do not want to see them again. I never ever want to see a kid crippled who could have had a vaccine again. |
My apologies, it was the title that upset me. It was not meant to be personal. |
Hey, that's ok. :) You have your opinion too! That's what Yorkie Talk is about, I tell you something and you tell me something back and all who read or join the discussion, may come out of it with information and views they didn't have before. It's all good. :) |
A lot of younger people have never seen these diseases in their lifetime, most kids are vaccinated at a young age these days, it wasn't always like this. It is so easy to forget or not know of these terrible times, I hope people will make good informed decisions of how they look at the world today. On another note, Tuberculosis has reared it's ugly head in the USA again in recent years, anyone can catch these diseases, they are not restricted to the poor. Take good care of yourself. |
That's me done, anyone else got a view ? |
To print names as has been done can be Classed as libel, be careful, the net isn't as anonymous as you think. By all means post the links. |

i don't see the need for animal testing on the type of products the OP is talking about, what kind of new cheap chemicals are they trying to add into these type of products that would require them to test it on animals? probably things you dont' want anywhere near your body anyways. |

I meant what was written, I was not threatening, I was merely stating that it can be classed as libel to slander a name. Some of these companies would take it seriously. |

Avon doesn't do animal testing. Animal Testing - Avon Corporate Responsibility Have you checked into each and every one of these companies before posting? |

If someone wrote that about me it would be libel |

so I found a definition online for 'libel' and obviously this is just one of the definitions. but anyways, the post is not defamatory, or malicious. to me it's more like a simple fact. |
I am well aware of the dictionary definition of Libel and Slander. Anyway, I have posted what I wanted about the drug companies and did not mean to get sidetracked to this. My last post on the subject. |

I meant views on the drugs Not on law |

i don't think this list (from the OP) was about drugs, like i mentioned in my previous post. that was my whole point, that the list looks more like it's talking about cosmetics, soaps, laundry detergent...etc. |
So why is a major drug manufacturer on the list then? All it said was companies to boycott. |
Yorkiedaze also posted about Avon being a clean company, why are they on that list ? |
Thanks for posting this, DooiesMom :). I think it's such a positive practice to avoid animal testing whenever it is possible....and whenever animal testing is no longer necessary for a product. It goes beyond cruel when products that no longer need to be tested still are nonetheless. |
coolbar, are you arguing with me? i am very confused by the sporadic way that you are discussing the topic. the list from the OP is probably not a perfect list. looks like some companies (avon) have realized that it's not a good idea to continue with the practice of animal testing. i am sure we can help the OP update the list if there are any other companies that have decided to stop animal testing. i would LOVE to see this list shrink. i am very happy that the OP took the initiative to post this thread. i am really confused by people who are offended by it. |
If it is about cosmetics, then I agree with you all, but some of these companies do animal testing for more purposes than that. The first post that I replied to just stated boycott these companies, if the thread was supposed to be about beauty treatments I would not have written about the good work that comes from animal testing that some of these companies do. Now we are clear on that, I will in my own words say that I do not disagree with animal testing for medical purposes. I am not trying to argue, just trying to make it clear that good things come from this that benefits us all. |
Perhaps that list should be revised and updated and made clear what each company does, it is all a bit random to just say a name. |
