Your Yorkie's Name Do any off you have stories of how you choose your Yorkies Name. Bela, my eldest, she is 4.5 years old was chosen by myself, a few years back we had a German Sheppard called Leba, sadly Leba died at just 8 years of age due to hormonal problems, she was a lovely dog and will stay in my heart forever. When we went to choose Bela:aimeeyork we arrived at the breeders home where we were greeted by 2 gorgeous little Yorkies 1 male and 1 female, the little Female ran straight to my wife and when my wife bent down to pick her up it was love at first touch, my wife said this is our dog as she has chosen us what shall we call her, I immediately thought of Leba's letters and came up with the name Bela. Leo name was chosen by my Grandson, why Leo I don't know but I must say it does suit him as he thinks he is a Lion.:D. As I type this they are both playing with a chew stick, why they cant eat their own I don't know, they always play over one. |
I used to pick names of favoite characters in the movies, but my last four were adopted and already had names which I decided to keep, as maybe the one stable thing in their lives. |
Well how i picked Denzel name is a little funny i guess well to me. so before he came home i kept thinking and thinking of boy names. i had seen pictures of him because i got him from a breeder in Missouri and she named him Norton:thumbdown. i didn't like that name because he didn't look like a Norton. so when it was time to get him i still didn't have a name. i get to LAX and im anticipating to see him the line is kind of long still no name yet. and when it was my turn and i gave the lady the information and she says OMG YOUR YORKIE IS SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL! so im like ok ok(thinking to myself i just want my baby) so i opened his kennel and he was curled up and he lifted his head i said OMG HE'S PERFECT COME HERE DENZEL. and my boyfriend says Denzel i didn't know you picked the name you forgot to tell me i said no i didn't pick his name Denzel just popped out of my mouth ahahaha. it was at that moment that he was the most beautiful baby in my eyes and i guess Denzel popped out of my mouth because he has been considered one of the sexiest man alive ahahaha so thats how my baby got his name.:) |
Well in our family all the girls names begin with a K . I had chosen the name Kiki because my daughters nickname is Kaykay . As for her registered name my daughter named her after her favorite book Daisy Head Maisy. With her hair pulled up in a ponytail she said she looked like she has a daisy growing out of her head. Registered name is Kaykay's Daisy Head Maisy and call name is Kiki Are female Boston Terrier got her name beacuse she jumped like a kangaroo ,we just shortened it to Kanga Girl .Her registered name is Nathanial's touch me Not she got that name because she didn't like for anybody to touch her when she slept. Are male Boston Terrier got his name Tommy boy from the brand name. His registered name is Wesley's Tommy Boy Tom Tom. |
By the way greeeeat thread :D |
My bf named her Uni b/c uni is my favorite food, and plus she was a little spiky black ball when we got her, just like a sea urchin! |
Before I decided I was not having any more children, I was going to name my next (if it was a girl) Madison Marie. So I thought since I'm not having any more, that is what I would name my dog. :) |
babies name well my babies name is Armani...he is still at the breeder since he will be only 8 weeks tomorrow...I just might keep that name...looking for something different and I like the name brand products and Armani is one of them but I am still undecided though. we have two other dogs, one is named Merlin and the other is Shadow. Merlin because he would always try to disappear and then Shadow because he is all black, that is my daughter's dog. :aimeeyork |
Before we picked up our girl Yorkie we had a week to decide on a name. I started looking online at cute dog names. I was really excited to pick a girl name since I have 2 sons all boys in our house it was fun to come up with a girl name!:) So as I looked through the list of names my husband and kids would listen to some I had picked. I got through a few and got to the name Carly. My oldest son who is 8 loves the show on Nickelodeon iCarly. He was jumping up and down and begging to name her Carly. I had also heard that if you end a dogs name in the E sounds they respond quicker to it. I liked the name too but wanted to put a spin on it since I was'nt the only one getting to decide so I changed the spelling and we call her Karlee! The middle name is still trying to be chosen but she already knows when we say Karlee we are talking to her. We have had her for 2 days now!;) Love this thread great idea!! |
You might find it odd and a bit long Our Pistol was named after a Yorkie my DH got me 25 years ago for a wedding present. One day when my first puppy was 16 weeks old he crawled into my husbands work boot to take a nap. When DH put his foot in his boot he discovered the pup inside and said " If I would have been in a hurry you would have been a sorry son of a gun " So he was registered as Daddy's Sorry Son of a Gun. His call name was Sorry. Sorry passed away shortly after due to a congenital heart defect . I had known about the defect but fell in love and bought him anyway. The breeder offered to sell me another puppy from a litter she had due in a month, but it was to soon for me.Well life happens and I never got another Yorkie, I always talked about getting one but couldn't bring myself to actually contact a breeder. Well this year was our 25th wedding anniversary and my DH surprised me with a Yorkie as my present, just as he did 25 years ago. I decided to name him after my beloved first Yorkie and registered him as Mama's Sorry Son of a Gun. Now I wanted a call name that kind of went with the gun theme. I had plenty of suggestions, AK, Derringer, Smith and Wesson, just to name a few. Well one day the new pup was running around the house stealing socks and running away like a maniac. My son said " He is a little pistol " and it stuck. It met my criteria of gun related and to be sure he is a pistol. |
My grandson, Ian, loved the 2005 remake of Peter Pan. We watched it over and over. So then when it came time to get my puppy, I recalled a part in the movie. At the end of the movie Wendy, Michael and John come home bringing with them The Lost Boys - who do not have a mother. Aunt Millicent says to one of the Lost Boys, "Is your name Slightly?" Slightly says "Yes." Aunt Millicent said, "Then I am your mother." Slightly says, "How do you know?" Aunt Millicent replied, "I feel it in my bones." When I first met my baby Yorkie...I said,"Is your name Slightly?" I knew I was his mother. I felt it in my bones....:ittykiss: |
Roxie was our first and we loved the musical Chicago. We named Roxie after Roxie Hart- the little jazz dancer who killed a man and got off- fits her perfectly! She is the feistiest little thing around! Ryder we thought was going to go with my hubby and be his riding buddy in his semi. Well turns out hes not a rider! LOL And our new boy on the way we chose Kenworth after the truck my hubby rolled. It really saved his life and we have never heard the name- unique! |

Actually, Jackson got his name from the Johnny Cash song... ya know, "I'm goin' to Jackson..." lol. I was watching the movie on TV and always loved that song the most and I don't know, it just stuck. Now, after all this Michael Jackson stuff happening too, it's kind of fitting, I suppose. I was never what I would call a "fan" of MJ but I always thought he was innocent, LOVE his music first and foremost... so it's kind of fitting. lol. But that's not why he was named that. |
For Chip, we went on google and looked up dog names. My mom was throwing out ideas and one time said "Chip". At first I was like "ehhh... what else?" but hubby and the family really liked it and it grew on me too, so that was his name and now I can't imagine him being called anything else. Smokey came to us with his name and he had been through sooooo much in his 6 months of life that I just decided to keep it the way it was. I didn't want to confuse him any more than he already was. His name from his original owners was Coby, but I didn't know that until about a month later. We usually just call him Moke most of the time. |
Rily means Remember I Love You. I don't really know why I wanted to name him Rily...it just seem to fit. The problem was...my daughter and I disagreed on the spelling. I liked Rylee, but she thought that was too girlie for a boy and thought I should spell it right...Riley. Well, a couple of days later I was shopping for "puppy stuff" and found a stuffed dog with Rily on his t-shirt....Bingo!!! My hubby has always signed any card or flowers he sent me simply "ILY." So, RILY it was!!! Rily Jethro McGee because I also love NCIS.:) |
We had like a month to come up with a name, we had a pic of him and he was to be my hubbys dog so I was going to let him come up with a name he didn't really know what to name him so he said he looked like an ewok so I did some searching for ewok names and I came across different sites with dog names, so we wrote down like five of them, we would wait until we got him home to see what he responded to, well my mom looked at his pic and said he looked like Oscar the grouch, I told my hubby that and he said his dad's middle name was Oscar and his grandfathers name was Oscar, so that is how Oscar got his name and well he needed a middle name we would get upset with him and it became Oscar Mayer, that is how he got his middle name. Our or my little girl well her name was a name that I have always wanted to have a dog named for many many years I heard it along time ago and liked it, so that is how Keysha got her name then she needed a middle name and I thought my moms middle name is Marie and she had a real good friend named Jean who I called my auntie when I was a kid and hubbys moms middle name was Jean, he had a sister how has passed named Jeananne his other sisters middle name is Marie. That is how Keysha got to be Keysha JeanMarie. It is interesting how people name there animals. |

Nico's full name is Sir Claudius Nicodemus...Nicodemus being named after the scribe in the bible. Jaxon's full name was Sir Fauntleroy Jaxon...my son was only 5 when we got Jaxon and he insisted we name him Michael Jackson. I said no. Then he wanted Donald Duck. So I compromised...Fauntleroy is Donald Duck's middle name...and well you know where the Jaxon came from. Winnie's full name is Lady Winnie of Oreo...My daughter wanted to name her after Winnie the Pooh and my son wanted to name her Oreo...so it's a blend. She's a Lady since the males are Sir's....lol...I don't think I put that much thought into naming my skin kids!!! |
Not too long after my childhood friend Jason passed away, my significant other's neighbors came to me and told me they'd just had a litter of yorkie pups if I was interested, and that I could have pick of the litter. I'd thought about it for a little while, then reluctantly agreed. Picking out a new puppy was semi-hard, but one of them stuck with me. Out of the 5, one of them fell asleep in my lap. I decided he'd be my dog, but didn't think of a name until a couple of weeks later. To identify each puppy, they were marked with a certain color. His was orange. My boyfriend joked about how I could name him "Orange Box" after one of my favorite videogames. Then we started talking about the different characters in the game... It had all been a joke at first. But then the breeder told me that he'd been the first to open his eyes. and when he first walked, it was straight to the training pad. Then I realized, I just had to name him after my favorite character. Gordon. Who, in game, was a scientist. I didn't want to go with a normal dog name, Because my first dog had a human name. My Grandmother thinks it's a terrible name for a dog, but it's okay. C: I'm the one paying for him, after all. |
Well we also have a "Ryle" we don't really have a story for the name it just fit him somehow. We also have a "Fancie Pants" because it really fit her.:p I also always liked names that ended with the E sound. |
Both of our teenage boys are soccer players....so we named our yorkie after the greatest soccer player ever.....Pele'. I've never known anybody to have a dog with this name. We have all sorts of nic names for him one being Pe' . He is a joy in our life and we are so happy to have him as a part of our family. |
Well we have a 8 mo old named Shayna Punim which means Beautiful Face in Yiddish. I really struggled with a name, I think I went through 3 before I decided but I just loved her face so I finally gave in and it fit. |
Lacey ------- L=LOVE A=AND C=CHEERISH E=EVERY Y=YORKIE |
i actually picked out my dog's name before i got him. i knew, regardless, i was getting a male dog. at first i really liked the name pogo, but i did more research online and ended up naming him da vinci. |
Manolo was named after shoes, Lola Falona was given this name because she is such a flirt, Pablo, well he just looks like a Pablo and XuXa well ugh, a Brazillian Porn Star that had a Childrens TV show on PBS. My girls loved her show. |

Our little girl is named Sissy Louise. You say (sarcastically) - well now, that's original..... The story behind Sissy's name is that my dear Sister passed away in June. My neice brought me Sissy (our first Yorkie) for "therapy" and Louise was my sister's middle name. Have to add - the therapy is working. :D My hubby says he hasn't heard my laugh in over a month and now it's pure entertainment! Sissy has turned out to be as special as my sister! :lovewings The name fits her perfectly! |
Princess had her name picked out before I even found her. I knew I was going to treat her like the Princess she is. You have no idea how had it was to find her. I looked at so many puppies for over a year. My husband didn't think I was really going to get one. I told him, Oh yes I am, I just want the right one. One day he called to see what I was doing. I told him I'm playing with my puppy. That morning I went to look at a breeders litter, and there she was. One look in her eyes told me she was my Princess.:2hearts2: |
A friend of mine just named hers ELLA JEWEL...Sounds like a little southern belle..Just love this name... |
