Soooo Sad!!!!:( |
I thought it was kind of you for trying to help your friend take care of the puppies. Your story touched my heart. Every time I come to Yorkie Talk, I think about the puppies and wonder how they are doing. I am hoping the breeder and the dogs are doing fine. I am hoping that you were able to educate your friend and offer her assistance if needed. I understand that your friend is not a cruel or bad person; she just lacks the understanding on how to be a responsible breeder. I am sure she can be a responsible breeder with your help. I only mention contacting the human society, because I thought they could help if your friend were neglecting the puppies. On TV, I have seen the SPCA help breeders be aware of the state laws if they were neglecting the puppies in any way. I am hoping the best for the breeder and puppies; I was only offering suggestions. I am not sure if they will help, but I tried to help because I care about the animals' welfare. I would love to hear that the breeder raised some beautiful, healthy, and sweet puppies. I am hoping for the best outcome. Take care. :) |

Unfortunately the way the laws are, you're probably going to get NO help from authorities. I doubt, even though cruel and resulting in death, her actions would be seen as breaking the law. That is sad too! You won't find a majority in the country that even understands being there for the birth. Most remember big, country dogs that went off and had their pups in a secluded spot and you found them after all was said and done. They do not understand that we have developed a fragile tiny breed that needs some extra attention. I always wondered how people could make much money breeding Yorkies. Now I know. Give them no care and still ask top dollar? Back to the problem though, how to educate the neighbor. I would ask her for a few minutes to discuss something serious. Then go over, sit down, and really tell her what you think about the way she is breeding. Tell her how dangerous it is and she will undoubtedly lose that little female -- what will that do to her profit margin? (If money is the only motivator -- use it!) I am surprised that she did not lose the momma after pulling the still born one out like that. How she did not wind up with an infection, I do not know. But you need to be blunt, factual, and serious. If you just say it matter-of-fact, it will be easy for her to push the advice aside. Tell her how important this is, and how inhumane the way she has been doing it is. Try to get her to understand these are living, breathing precious creatures that we have been blessed with and should not be treated as so much livestock. I take that part back, any farmer would give his livestock better care. OP -- you know what is wrong, you know what she needs to do. If you do not know the details, you at least know she needs to get with a montor, or at least become educated on breeding. Somehow you also need to get her to open her heart and treat her puppies with more respect. It won't be easy, but by staying quiet, witnessing it, and still being her friend.... that is tacit approval of what she is doing. Sorry to have to say that but it is true. If you witness abuse, continue to associate, then you are saying what they are doing is not that bad. You have to draw a line in the sand and get her to understand it cannot be crossed. |
I'm sorry if I "yelled" and offend anyone, I apologize , I just make me really sad and angry, before yt, I was very ignorant and completly uneducated about dogs in general and specialy yorkies, I grew up with dogs but it was my mother who took care of them, I just loved them and played with them, so when my dog was pregnant, I was an idiot too, that's why I read a lot about it, went to the vet and called my mother almost everyday to ask everything, then when she was in labor till the last pup was born, I stayed with her and to see your dog like that, the shaking, the panting, her eyes... My good... Everything is ok, I spayed and no more puppies for us, I can't handle the idea of losing her, there are exelent breeders that know what they doing, me? I don't know nothing about it.... So I learned from my ignorance, why can't she?I'm not reading this thread anymore, it makes me sad and angry, if there's any kind of happy ending pls pm and let me know, thanks everyone and again sorry.
