| Boy vs Girl Ruby's mom is having babies in the fall and we have decided we want one. My husband wants a boy and I want another girl. Ruby's groomer does not recommend a boy because she says they are harder to house train. She has a five year old Yorkie boy and he still lifts his leg in the house. I need your input. Has anyone also had the same problem with boys? |

| I have a male yorkie and a female dachshund and I can honestly say that my baby boy was way easier to train to use the potty than my female. He uses his potty pads inside the house without any problem and has never lifted his leg inside the house but when we go outside that's a different story. I don't know if neutering at an early age had anything to do with it but who am I to say.

| I have never had a girl, but Lucas doesn't mark, never did. He is neutered and I think that helps?

| Yorkies, in general, are known to be hard, at times, to housebreak. Buddy was housebroken after only a month. He was 14wks when I got him and by 5mos was housebroken. I have had three males over the years and never once did they lift their leg on my home. So it depends on each individual dog. Good luck in your choice, |

| I'm in the same boat. My family can't decide if we want a boy or a girl from a litter of pups that will be ready in October. I know we want to wait to make the decision when they are older so we can see their little personalities.

| Good luck with either decision sometimes you just have to take a look at the puppies and go for the one that seems to suit your families lifestyle. I originally only wanted a boy but when I went to go see the puppies the girl puppy came right too us was laid back and just seemed to fit the criteria we wanted for a new puppy for our family. There was a couple of factors that leaned me towards a boy was due to when the girls go in heat..I have no intentions of breeding so to me I wanted to not go through this situation but like I said when we saw our puppies I ended up bringing the girl home. We love her and we're happy with our decision. I have other family members that have boy dogs and one is having trouble the other is'nt so it really does'nt have anything to do with if they are a boy or a girl on house training its more their personalities. Good luck with your decision, your gonna love your puppy no matter which one you bring home! Last edited by starr728; 07-31-2009 at 11:26 AM. |

| Both are good but I say boy Jackson is my first boy dog ever, I grew up with girl dogs, and I think I will always have boy dogs from now on. They're generally more laid back, less stubborn, easier to train in general, and are more dependent whereas girls tend to be more independent.

| I have both. My male is sweet, sweet, sweet!! Not saying my girl is not...but only when she is in the mood. As far as potty training, they both took the same time to train. Good luck |

| all three of my current dogs are boys, and I housebroke my fathers Yorkie (Male) as well. I have never had a problem. Be firm and consistent. If your groomer is having an issue, I would have to say its probably more about her than the dog. I think you can train any dog, but you have to train yourself, first.

YT 2000 Club Member | I have 2 boy's and a girl Yorkie and my boy's were faster at potty training than my girl! Jeter was my easy one he was potty trained within a month of having at my home, he had 3 accidents total during that first month! My other two, Axl and Yumi Yasha are just a day apart in age, Axl took 2 1/2 months to potty train while Yumi Yasha took 5 months to train as she was very stubborn and did not care if she poohed in her crate But once she got the hang of going outside, she never had an accident again. Not bad for a breed that people say are hard to train! I am a stay at home mom too so that could of been a big deal in getting the training quick and Mine were also all trained to go outside, never used pee pee pads at all!

| I have both girls and boys, my boys are more loving while the girls only want you when they want you. I would never trade my boys for anything. |

| I would go off personality rather than the sex. If you do have trouble with marking belly bands are a very easy fix.
