Being a member of the BTCA and dealing with a new bred, this test is so worth it to me and all my breeders. I do not need to tell any potential customer that I had my dogs tested and their new Biewer puppy is coming from clean Biewers. This is for my knowledge as a breeder. It gives me somewhat peace of mind. I guess some breeders find that hard to understand. What you are seeing BTCA members doing is working with modern science to help head off any potential disease that may or may not be there. No good breeder wants to intentionally hurt a customer by selling them a new breed that has potential health problems. I have read over and over again of heart broken families that put out thousands of dollars to save something they love dearly. We as a club are just trying to do the best that modern science is allowing us to do. And, fortunately enough, we were able to find just the right lab that will do it for us. I am sorry this may seem confusing to others but it just shows how serious the members of the BTCA are in producing healthy Biewer Terriers. I was not surprised to see this post as we are constantly being attacked all the time. I just wish we could be left alone and do what we do best, by continuing to produce healthy stock for loving pet homes. |

If a certain mutation is shown to cause cancer, it is going to cause cancer, no matter what breed it is and the treatments are going to be the same also. Some things are common to all breeds no matter what, like coccidia, it doesn't differentiate between toy, hound, or terrier does it? |

I do not no why you made this post? I can see with 11 posts you are definitely a trouble maker. Leave the BTCA alone. Learn your facts before you post. Most of the posters here are from the other clubs trying once again to stir up trouble with what the BTCA members are doing because they are on the outside looking in. AND what really makes me somewhat curious are the ones that have been BANNED from BTCA. Yes, you know who you are. You are the ones using Yorkshire Terrier in your sales and marketing schemes to sell your Biewer a la pom pon. This is what the BTCA detests. We are an educational club promoting the best breeding methods we can. If Yorkshire Terrier breeders cannot accept that, then shame on you. Oh, by the way, I breed and show Yorkshire Terriers, and I know the difference between a Yorkshire and a Biewer. |
I think the Yorkie breeders should put more effort into doing something about the Parti problem and quit worrying about what the BTCA is doing. If they would have required DNA parentage profiling on their breeding dogs years ago like the BTCA does, there wouldn't be this problem. It's never to late to start. Instead of launching a smear campaign against the only club that is trying to prove that the Biewer is not a Yorkshire Terrier, write the AKC and have some of the Parti's DNA'd for the last 3 or 4 generations. It doesn't cost that much. Beware of the people that are advertising their dogs as Biewer Terriers, Biewer a la Pom Pons, Biewer Yorkshires, Biewer Yorkshire a la Pom Pons, etc........ They obviously are only in it for the money and it will reflect in the quality of there dogs. Just remember, all puppies are cute. |
We all as responsible Biewer owners/breeders/buyers want to protect our dogs from these potential health problems. And to think that the BTCA working with modern science has discovered these tests for mutations of diseases. Please share with us the name of the laboratory that are doing these mutation tests for you- What mutations have been identified for the Biewer breed? Which specific diseases are you testing the Biewers for? If the toy breed mutations are the same for the Biewer Terrier, wouldn't the mutations be the same for the Biewer ala Pom Pon, Biewer Yorkshire Terrier, Biewer Yorkie, Biewer and the Yorkshire Terrier? |

I suppose if you want to know the name of the lab you can go to the btca website and look it up. Juliet |

Funny thing, that didn't work so they attacked his work. I always find it amazing how an everyday housewife sitting around drinking coffee, tea, coke, ? feels they know more about a topic than someone who has spent 10, 20, 30 years specifically researching it. A toy is a category the dog is in, it's not the breed of the dog.:confuse2: |

I am still interested in the answers to the other questions- You were the one that stated "Why would you expect a different finding since a toy breed dog has pretty much all the same organs that a larger breed has" just trying to understand what you meant- What tests have been validated for the Biewer breed? |

I know nothing about the OP, I'm not sure if you do. However, those everyday housewives siting around drinking coffee, tea, coke maybe a potential new Biewer owner. This thread is a great opportunity to become a very educational one. The conversation between YTCA and the Biewer Club was very civil and educational. YTCA asked questions and Biewer Members were more than willing to answer them. It was a great opportunity to bridge the gap, and left the door open to more constructive conversations and sharing of information. |

If you go on the infamous IBC website in Germany, you will see for yourself they have declared the Biewer Terrier to be a separate breed of its own. This was a blessing in disguise for the Biewer Terrier. This is also what AKC needed to see as ARBA and Carl Yochuum of YTCA already knew. Because of all the efforts the BTCA has made and is now recognized as the leading breed club, the decision was made to no longer help those who have choosen to try and mock everything the BTCA was doing. We no longer need to justify our efforts to those who are still in the dark with this breed. |

We had our sit down with Carl Yochuum, President of the YTCA. He understands and became the mediator for our breed. We are constantly still talking with YTCA members. However, there are certain attackers on this forum who are doing just that, attacking our efforts. If YOU need information, and want to learn, contact BTCA direct. We don't need this aggravation anymore. |
