Maybe next weekend~Update on Sadie's Arrival Well the breeder just called and he'd like to wait one more week and see how things go with our puppy before letting her come to us. If you know the situation, you are probably rejoicing because this will give her more time with her mom and littermates. I am pretty glad as well, because i know that it is important for her to have all the time with them she can. So it's looking like my girl will come home to us MAYBE on the 7th of August, rather than this weekend. We'll just have to wait and see. Marvin just didn't feel comfortable this week and I am more than okay with that, i want her to be a little older as well. Despite all the arguing and upsetting things on the previous threads, i was secretly hoping he'd call and tell us he was waiting another week or two, and that's what happened. My mind is clear that he's responsible and he's doing what is best for the puppies, if he's not feeling comfortable with them leaving, he keeps them until he knows that they are truly doing fine and ready to go. So anyways, another week to wait, but it's totally worth the wait, both because i'll wait forever for Sadie and also because she'll get more bonding time with mom. Thanks for checking in and have a great day. |

Also just to add, it sounds like he has decided to let mom stay with the pups longer? That is great that he changed his mind about taking her away from them at six weeks! |
This really is good news. I'm glad you're ok with it. |
me too Quote:
yea i think he's taking her out for a half day during the daytime and leaving her in there all night, he plays with them all day so they don't get lonely and is feeding them ground up pup food now, he's working on em, but yea i'm truly glad and relieved that he's waiting a little bit longer, yay for progress |
Hi, I went back and read the two threads on the place Sadie is from. I want to urge you again to reconsider. The website and the registry make it clear that this is at the very best a major BYB operation. It is very common for scammers to offer to meet you away from their homes. They say it is for your convenience, or so the dog can meet you on "neutral" territory, but it is really so that you don't see the conditions the dogs are raised in. As has been stated repeatedly, you are opening yourself up to a world of heartache if it turns out that this puppy is sick. Think about how attached you are to her already, and she doesn't even live with you yet. There is zero chance that you will return her in six months, no matter what her condition is, and the breeder is counting on that. Against all the red flags on the website and this dog's registration and the fact that you haven't seen the dog's home, you are stacking against it that this man seems very nice. Lots of people can be SUPER nice when they are selling you something. It doesn't mean he is honest. Please also consider that by buying this puppy, you will almost certainly be perpetuating the cycle of misery of abused dogs forced to breed unhealthy puppies, many of whom will end up euthanized in shelters because unethical breeders don't care about pet overpopulation. A lot of us have puppy mill dogs - I have one - but most of us did not know what we do now about puppy mills and bad breeding practices. You have this information now. Please use it to make the right choice, both for you and for all dogs, who have no one to speak for them. By the way, in MO, I don't think you would need to spend $1K to get a well-bred puppy, $700 would probably be enough. A rescue or an older dog is also an excellent option. Please keep in mind how much money you are going to need for vet costs EVEN IF the pup is healthy - several hundred in the first year, easily. |
Also, regarding the age thing - it's my understanding that in the UK, the KC says 7-8 weeks is okay, though again for a small breed like yorkies, I can understand that 12 weeks might be better. So it's not the age that concerns me, it is everything else, including the fact that a YT member called this breeder and basically got confirmation that the breeder does not have his puppies interests at heart. How much can he love his dogs with that many different breeds, all having puppies at the same time? You can't love forty puppies at once. |

At the end of the day these cute pups are going to be sold to someone and by going by Rachels thread she is aware of the consequences. |
Are you aware that she is too young to be vaccinated? Puppies get maternal antibodies from nursing that block the first vaccines if they are given too soon after weaning. At six weeks old, she only has a 25% chance that a vaccination would have any effect. The first vaccination shouldn't be given before about nine weeks when the ability to respond rises to about 40%. Breeders who sell puppies too young will just go ahead and vaccinate anyway just to say the puppy has had "shots". Not only does this leave the puppy totally unprotected from deadly puppy diseases, it means she will need an extra set of vaccinations as the final set should be given between 16-18 weeks for full immunity. Over vaccinating can cause all sorts of health problems, both short and long term. Please read this: Dog Vaccinations - Are We Over-Vaccinating Our Canine Companions? |

Given the registry and the fact they acknowledge mixing breeds...there is no way for you to definitely know she's a purebreed yorkshire terrier. |
do we have to go through this again?? i've heard it all before, and i'm sure this isn't the end of it, but if you have read my previous posts, you already know that i've made up my mind and am very happy with my choices. please no more posting about puppy mills, if i hear that word again i could puke, i'm just tired of it all people, i know who my breeder is, and i know everything's clean and taken care of, i'm comfortable with the situation and that's all that should matter. be happy that i'm getting a yorkie period and please enough with rehashing this!! i'd like to be able to move on from here and learn about taking care of a yorkie instead of ALWAYS having to go back to the subject of where my baby came from would that be alright with you guys? please!!??? Thanks for the understanding and cooperation! Let's be adults here and get over this and move on can we? She's going to be almost 8 weeks old when i get here, still young, but better than before, so let's look at the bright side and let go of the negative stuff, no more worries, no more negative posts, happy thought people, happy, loving, and encouraging thoughts!! Thanks ;) |

In all the pictures she looks really really small. how much does she weigh now? |
what makes you honestly think that just because my dog is not AKC (snob registered) and she's not 1000 or more that she's going to automatically get sick and die?? where the heck did you get that information from, nowhere on earth does it say that you have to have an AKC dog to have a healthy dog. My goodness people now you're just getting ridiculous, and showing yourselves for who you really are. It's like no matter what if the breeder is not AKC and if the breeder is not up to your ridiculous show quality (uppity snobbish) standards you instantly scream puppy mill, well that's just not even worth talking to you over. |

Thanks, my goodness Quote:

Rachel, No one here is being a snob. There is a lot of background information here and a tremendous wealth of knowledge that they are trying to share with you. His website is full of red flags. I agree that no one should buy from this person, once they have the facts, and I understand that you are going to anyway. Please understand, that many here work VERY hard to have these kind of operations put out of business. No one is saying your pup will def. be sick, but simply by buying the pup you keep this kennel in operation. I've grown to have a great deal of respect for some of the people who are posting on your threads. Many of them have proven to have a wealth of knowledge. You've already seen that we will help answer your questions about raising Sadie, in your threads about that you've gotten lots of advice. The only difference, is that the advice you are getting here is advice you don't want. What if everyone knew the food you were choosing was horrible, but then you talked about the food you use. Would you expect them not to speak up? This isn't about being a snob. Really, it isn't. It's sad that this isn't getting across. edited: This time I'm really done, you won't hear from me on it again. |

HOWEVER, puppy mills are a disgusting and terrible thing and I would NEVER purchase a puppy from a pet store or from someone that sells multiple breeds and not allowing you to come into their house like you're purchasing from. It's one thing if you buy a dog from a pet store not knowing... many people do and find out the hard way about mills. But you are on this website now, you do not have a puppy yet and you are getting a wealth of information, yet you still refuse to listen. So that's fine! Your pup will most likely be perfectly healthy, may not, may be. But bottom line is you contribued to this: (Please watch this show!) And on that note, I wish you and your puppy nothing but total happiness. But just thought I'd give you another perspective since I am very much like you on the AKC, etc. I'm not one of those "snobs" (and neither are 99% of the people on this site, even if you think they are...) and I'm more of an old fashioned dog owner in a way... but puppy mills are one thing I stand strong on. Please watch the YouTube video I posted. |

And i love how you call AKC a snob registry... maybe you need to do some more research on your registries... No one is saying that all AKC dogs are healthy and You are offending many breeders here by calling show breeders snobs. The show breeders that are on this forum are extremely helpful and knowledgable and not snobish at all. |
My dog is not AKC registered either. I bought him as an adult from someone who bought him from a pet store, so for all I know he is a mix. He is an adorable dog and I love him with all my heart, but he is a million miles from show quality. I am not posting out of malice. I am pushing the point again, even though I know you are tired of it, because it is so important, and I can't quite believe that someone with the information you have now would still be okay getting this dog. The registry matters not because your dog has to be "good enough", it matters because it is a registry commonly used by unscrupulous breeders. Please consider the health of your lifelong companion, and the welfare of dogs in general. |

No one here is being a snob. You keep posting thread's, then you get upset when memeber's respond's back. Why is that? They only trying too help you out here. And I also notice that you are a memeber on another yorkie forum as well............Why do you keep posting thread's on the other forum, saying not so nice thing's about yorkietalk forum? Thats why I say this to you, whats really going on here? |
to be completely honest with you, i'm not into puppy mills either, it's sad and sickening and if i truely believed this guy to be an owner of one don't you think i'd take my money elsewhere, he doesn't refuse anyone access to his home, i have no flippin' clue who started that rumor because i've not one time said that i couldn't go look at his facility if i wanted to, i just choose not to drive over four hours to do so, i am taking a gamble that he is trustworthy and fine with that, but had i felt i needed to drive and check him out i totally could and would be way more than welcome. I've heard Marvin say they've had people drive from California to pick out a pup from them and they've even let the person stay in their home overnight after they made the trip. i'm really really really really 1000 times sure that this is not a puppy mill operation, or i PROMISE you all i wouldn't buy there. i am not a heartless person that wants to support a puppy mill, and i am not ignorant and stupid, i just know my own judgment has never led me astray so far in 21 years, not only that but my husband agrees with me that we both feel good about this person. please please, let it go, i'm not inhumane and i'm not trying to ignore your concerns and advice, but i'm not getting my pup from a puppy mill, and you all won't seem to understand that and leave it alone. |
i'm feeling attacked, i can't post a single thing on here that seems to stay on track or on topic, every single time i post anything at all, it ALWAYS get attacked and leads back to the stupid puppy mill thing. why can't you all just let it go? i just want to be left alone. forget it, i'm done, i'm not talking on YT anymore, you have lost someone who could have been a great friend and a really great source of learning and information. hope you all are happy, i give up on this website |
I hope your new yorkie puppy is healthy. If not, your going to be in for a whole lot of pain and heartache , because i know how much you love this baby already. Everyone on YT was only trying to help you, however each time you chose to become highly defensive at the possibilty of your pup not coming from a reputable breeder .Sometimes , people need need to learn the hard way> (sigh) AKC , my yorkie female is pure bred , she does not have papers, my shih tzu puppy is AKC and came with papers, the difference is I can see right there her breeding background, the little puppy. It is NOT snobby at all, where in the world did that come from ? As I read your posts where you are getting your precious puppy from , I do need to comment, this sounds like a huge breeding operation, a enormous for profit , dare I say it, (puppy mill) those people will say anything to their customers to sell a puppy. I am not trying to be rude or insensitive towards you. The picture of your little yorkie is very cute, You have been fore warned by many YT'ers , who really know about this type of stuff, and are scared for you . They are not trying to bash you. Or make you angry. Best wishes to you. Hope your puppy is going to be one of the few lucky ones, who are not going to be sick when you bring her home. |
I am sure you are a caring person, so as aggravating as it may be, please think about what we are saying here. This is not just coming from one or two members, or people with show dogs, or from animal activists. There are so many reasons not to go with this breeder. I am not sure he qualifies as a puppy mill -- I think he is a large scale BYB, which still perpetuates pet overpopulation and poor animal welfare. I don't understand how you can be so certain he is not a BYB simply because you have talked to him. Surely you know there are excellent con men out there. How do you account for the other things people are saying here: the shady registry, the calls another YT member made, the willingness to release puppies way too early, the fact that the mother is kennelled, the red flags on the website, the shaky health guarantee? Also: if you are lucky, you will have this dog for twenty years. Isn't that worth an eight hour drive to check the conditions she lives in? Have you considered that there may even be better breeders who live closer to you? I am appealing to your heart here, and it is genuinely done out of concern. I volunteer at an animal shelter, and I have to tell you, it is so important to breed responsibly, and to support responsible breeding. |
Also, I understand that you feel attacked and frustrated, and I would not be posting if I did not think this was incredibly important. I generally do not go out of my way to offend new members. |
