My furkids Donating Member | could somebody please help me!!! My little Lillie just isn't herself. She is 4 1/2 lbs and 3 yrs old...She was absolutely fine when I came home from shopping...jumping up at me like I bought her a new toy...Not long after she was acting strange...wouldn't leave my side and just laid down. I picked her up and she laid her head on my shoulder. I noticed she had some poop stuck on her bottom. I cut that off and more hair around her tiny bum....I took her outside and she ran around a bit with her fursister Sadie...She did pee but, no poop. She isn't lethargic and she is eating and drinking. She almost acts like she still has to poop and I'm wondering if she could be a little constipated...I feed them both, Merrick Grammies pot pie and about 2 tablespoons of Wellness Chicken. I have not changed their food. Lillie is a real baby...she is more timid then Sadie (Sadie is Alpha) When she isn't feeling well, or does reverse sneezing, she will run to me and just lay her head on me. I mean she is a REAL baby. I did a search to see if I could find something on constipation but, couldn't . Does somebody here know what I could give her to help her go? I gave her a tiny bit of canned cat food (I don't usually do this) just to see if that would make her go...it didn't...If somebody here could help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance

| I thought cat food make them constipated because they can't digest it. Maybe someone else will no for sure.

My furkids Donating Member | Thank you Krystee...but, I know in the past if they even ate cat kibbles it would loosen their poop...I really don't know what to give her...I just feel bad for her. I'm not real worried that it's something major..I just think she needs to poop...My girls have been very healthy right from the start.

My furkids Donating Member | Thank you ladymom...I just googled and guess what came up!! YORKIETALK FORUM!! and canned pumpkin was the cure. I'm pretty sure this is her problem. YT 1000 Club Member | Poor baby I hope it works. I know that Roxie gets kind funny when she's had poo stuck to her fur. She'll act shy and kind of sheepish. They must get humiliated by it. Anything to do with the hiney makes anyone feel bad.

My furkids Donating Member | I just got back from the store. I haven't given Lillie the pumpkin yet...Actually she is acting totally fine now...I'm wondering if I should even still give it to her.

| Mineral oil will help them go, and doesn't hurt them. Chance ate a plastic ring off lunch meat, one time, and the vet had me give her mineral oil to make her go. Sandy and Chance |

YT Addict | i wouldn't give her anything wait a bit see how she is acting tomorrow and if she goes potty. i think she is fine just some indigestion of some kind. i wouldn't make it worse by giving her things that are not the norm until you know for sure she is constipated. if she is for sure then try the pumpkin. |

| I second the pumpkin, it works for both constipation or loose stools. I've given it to Missy 3 times so far. It works like a charm for us

My furkids Donating Member | Thank you everyone for your responses...When I got home from the store last night she was perfect!! Where she was bouncing all over the place and acting like herself I didn't give her the pumpkin...It's almost like nothing was ever wrong with her. As I said...she is a baby...she will run to me all the time if something isn't right and lay her little head on my shoulder..She did have a poop ball stuck to her fur so I cut that off...usually she is fine after that...she just wasn't herself for about an hour. I am going to play it by ear today...I am hoping that I can catch her when she poops so I can take a look at it to see if it is too hard...I have another yorkie as well. Thank you all again so much...I was a little worried about her last night.

| Benda, I am so glad to hear that little Lillie is back to her normal self. Poor baby had a alien attacking her behinny. One thing that I have found helps with constipation is to take their temperature will a "well greased" thermometer. |

| Glad she seems to be doing well. A note on the canned pumpkin. I give mine a little anytime I think they may need a bit of help keeping regulated, and I found a great idea for storing it (guess where? on Yorkietalk). Now I open a can, spoon out little mounds onto a wax paper lined cookie sheet and stick it in the freezer. Once frozen, I place the little serving size pumpkin pieces in a baggie and keep in the freezer. Thaw as needed. Works great and I don't have to throw away so much pumpkin anymore.
