| ![]() I take Piper for a walk at a state Beach every day. All dogs are suppose to be leashed and there are signs everywhere to remind people. Since it's summer dogs are not allowed on the beach yet you can walk the bike paths. Most of the time the paths are away from the beach but there is one section that you go through that is big open fields and pavillions that you can rent for special occasions. This section is also a picnic area. Yesterday I was walking through there and Piper is just watching the kids playing ball in the field and I sence something coming up fast behind me. I turn and an unleashed Boxer runs right up to Piper. She is about 5.5lbs and this boxer is scaring her. It's not acting aggressive and I know that Piper is never aggressive but all it takes is for Piper to growl and the other dog could attack. I scoop her up and hope this dog doesn't start jumping for her. I actually kicked the Boxer and said NO! and it ran away. Where is a park ranger when they're needed? On my walk back I did see the Boxer again running from the beach area but I went out of my way to stay clear of it.

| ![]() No one should be irresponsible enough to allow they dog to wander unleashed, there is no reason for it and there are laws that are suppose to stop it from happening for a reason. I will never trust a dog owner to "know" that their dog is safe to run loose around my pets or children. Thankfully my neighborhood is full of dog owners who responsibly walk their pets on a leash as they should be. And, most certainly anyone would be more likely to be fearful of a large breed dog over a small one. And, dog breeds that were bred to be aggressive, relentless killers.. Yea, i'm all for steering clear of any

Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I find myself constantly defending the breed because my dad bred them when we were young and they are great dogs if socialized and properly trained. Extremely loyal. With that said, I would never have one running loose...it's just ridiculous! Too many people are afraid of them and there is a leash law and you're right...for good reasons!! I was in my brother's kickboxing gym during a kids class and a couple of people came through with a pit bull...no leash! I was like are you kidding!? Couldn't believe it!! Way too many kids around...hello, leash? My brother had to tell them he couldn't run around the gym like that...durr! People don't always think before they do things...

| ![]() I am glad you and your yorkie were ok! What a scary and dangerous situation to be in ![]() These are the dogs who break down neighbors fences to get to the other side where their is a tiny dog living , only to maul it to death, these are the dogs who get loose , go onto some elses property and kill a beloved pet !!! , or attack the owner to get to the small dog in the arms of a human> I am personaly scared of them . Just up the street someone has a large Pitbull. I have not seen this dog roaming , ever, but, I have seen it , so I steer as far away as possible with my little Yorkie. I have watched so many shows , animal cops, and even cops , where its always a Pit Bull , killing a smaller dog, it is sickning .OR there is a huge fighting ring going on wher ethese pits are being trained to fight. I know that most of the time this does not happen, however, these dogs are dangerous, and YES carry doggie mace!! if their are PITS living or roaming in your neighborhood ![]() ![]() ![]()

Because they are idiots and are not responsible and don't deserve the dog. The dog should be with someone who cares enough about him/her to have them on a leash and keep them safe too! (It could have been hit by a car, or dognapped by "dog-fighting" people)

Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() My husband and I took the kids and both puppies to Tabor Park. It has the beach, playground etc etc...anyway, I noticed this woman standing away from the playground. She and her dog were clearly interested in my pups. She had her Pit on a leash and it was clear she wanted to talk but was afraid. I think because she had a Pit and wasn't sure how we'd react. She said the ENORMOUS Pit was a French import. I didn't want to offend the Pit owner but I have to admit not knowing the dog I let the dogs sniff but not very close and every dog's tale was waggin. I wispered to my husband before walking over not to let the kids to close. Anyway, I understand why people are afraid. I for one defend the breed but to trust any Pit or any large dog you run across is just silly. You don't know their history is all and like any dog you don't know you need to be cautious that's all. I've come across tiny little ankle biters I tell my kids to stay away from too...I don't know, I guess the point in this is to say I see everyone's point of view...

| ![]() My 97 pound leashed lab was Attacked by 3 smaller dogs as we were walking. We do not have a leash law here but because I had my dog on leash I just pulled my dog and walked off. As my dog was growling at them I just told him no and kept walking. There is never a reason for not having them on leash. We took Muffy and Buddy camping last weekend and I forgot there leash so hubby got some cloths line and made one. ![]() A picture of our homemade leash. ![]()

| ![]() If you have never read a book called The Common Years, by Jilly Cooper (a popular English novelist), DON'T. The 3 (positive) reviews on amazon.co.uk talk about her love for her dogs, but she freely admits that she never properly trained them or had them altered. She let them off leash on the common where some of them routinely mounted or attacked other dogs and they all had behavior problems. She had to put down more than one because of their behavior. The worst was when her most beloved (and badly behaved) dog attacked and killed a little girl's Yorkie. The girl's father was a policeman. And Jilly felt soooooo bad when she had to put down her dog. I threw the book in the rubbish and will never read any other books by this woman. |
