UG! Tired of hearing she's a Silky... So last week I brought Mia to a groomer for a bath/nail/face trim and I was told AGAIN that she was a Silky and not a Yorkie. I had a different groomer say the same thing to me when I went in for a visit to her shop when I was searching for a groomer for my baby. I brought her in for photos at my studio last week and when everyone sees the pictures they say "are you sure she's yorkie?"... I'm soooooo tired of hearing this, but now I'm starting to question after hearing it so much. I bought a Yorkie from a Yorkie breeder and didn't know anything about Silkies till the first groomer mentioned it. Now after looking at photos Mia's face does look awful long for a yorkie.... Would you all mind taking a peek at my album and let me know what you think? Is she Yorkie????? She is 6 lbs right now and she is 7 months old. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/album.php?albumid=5119 |
My personal opinion would be Yorkie. She does not have a Silky face, IMO. I went through the samething with Buddy. I think because of the size they assume Silky. I had my doubts also when he was a puppy but all Yorkie he is at 16lbs and I would say your girl is too. |
Dont listen to them... 2 Attachment(s) She's a yorkie don't listen to them, I have had people question my lexie being pure, but I really dont pay much attention to it they think because chuckie and lexie look nothing alike in size or color, they automatically assume she is mixed, they say aren't yorkies suppose to be silver, (lexie is all black & tan) its frustrating I know, but who cares what people think, as long as you love your precious Mia, Screw them :-P |
Jackson gets those comments all the time... he's 14lbs. But that doesn't mean he can't be Yorkie! I questioned it after my groomer told me he was probably part Silky, but looking at him and his personality... he seems all Yorkie to me! Someone told me in Petsmart he looked more Westie?! I was like, huh? |
She looks yorkie to me. That metal tub picture is super cute!! :) |
He looks all yorkie to me. He is a cutie. |
She's a yorkie........not a silky! Next time you take her to the groomer, give her a pair of glasses so she can see better!;) |
Whatever she is, she is beautiful and I can tell from the pictures that you treasure her. I don't think it makes any difference if she is Yorkie or Silky unless you plan to breed her and sell the puppies. |
I own a Silky That is a yorkie She looks NOTHING like a silky. |
She has to be a Yorkie!! The way she poses for the camera!!! |
Can i just say.... I love the pictures of Mia and your daughter!!:D |
Thanks so much guys..... I know it doesn't matter I couldn't love her more anyway, it just bugged me and I started to question it myself after hearing it so much. One thing tho.... I will not take her to a groomer that doesn't know the difference!!! What a silly thing to say to a customer. Thanks again everyone! |
She is adorable and looks all yorkie to me. I think silkies are lighter in color. |
She doesn't look anything like a Silky. She is Yorkie, through and through. Pay them no mind. They are ignorant. |
Maybe this is just what i think, but i think she looks litle bit like a Silky  Her nose is a litle too long, and ears too big. Maybe i just think she looks like a silky because how shes groomed, i dont know... This is a Yorkie: http://www.yorkshireterrier.is/hunda...extEdition.jpg and a silky: http://www.silkyterrier.is/hundar/Photos/topaz1.jpg Personally i think she looks like a silky, but there are lots of pure Yorkies who have big ears and long nose so it can ofcaurse be that she's a pure yorkie :) ! Is she AKC Registered? |
re:ug! tired of hearing she's a silky looks to me like she's a yorkie. in my opinion, she looks a lot like my joey (the one on the right in my avatar). just ignore everyone who says otherwise...that's what i would do. |
I think she looks yorkie! And I love your pics:) Gorgeous baby:thumbup::animal-pa |
personally they look so much alike its hard to tell unless you were a perfesional .my lily has big ears too .most of the yorkies i have seen on here do then a few will have the very small ears. i know if you look on the akc site it will give you the measurements of a silky vs the yorkie. i dont know how to post the site so you will have to go to it yourself. to me she looks like a yorkie .if they say no cause of her ears then half of all ours on here must have silky s too.:eek::eek: |
2 Attachment(s) I have a 19.5 pound yorkie (yes, I have his papers) and I get this all the time. Especially since he was born in Europe and didn't have his tail docked. I have TWO yorkies, one is 5 pounds and one is 19 and they are both personality personified. Have a stock answer ready for these twits who want to tell YOU what YOUR dog is (like, "well, the uninformed often confuse the two. Natural variation is a wonderful thing and I love his uniqueness") Good luck. Kate |

I think she looks more like a Yorkie. The 2 breeds are so close in appearance sometimes it's really hard to tell just based on that.....I see "Yorkie's" all the time that I think look like Silky's, and "Silky's" that I think look just like many Yorkies I've seen. Here's a good website with several pics of Silky's: Silky Terrier,Magic Show Kennel, Silky Terrier, Australian Silky, Siiditerrier, Шелковистый Терьер, Австрал (Sorry, I didn't think the pic examples posted in the quote above were great examples of the breed. Hopefully that will give you a better idea.) |
Does her hair grow fast? Do her legs stay pretty short without grooming? |
Looks like a yorkie to me just may be on the larger side with a sparse/puppy coat. I know what a silky looks like and yours doesn't have the silky head. Looks to me just to have a different coat texture than a silk yorkie. JMHO Donna p.s. don't worry what the groomer says....my show yorkie I'm asked all the time if it's a silky...some just do not know the difference in appearances. |

She definitely looks all yorkie to me!! Don't worry about what people say... |
She is a beautiful Yorkie girl. IMO |
She looks like a Yorkie to me. I don't think her body or face look Silky. Plus, I didn't think the first pics were very good examples either. I hate when people act like they know more about your business than you. |
She looks like a Yorkie to me. I have had people say that Ginger is a Silky too. I just don't listen to them. Don't you listen to those people either. :) |
She looks like a Yorkie to me! |
Thanks everyone for taking the time to look for me. I'm over my mini paranoia state now and I agree... she's ALL yorkie ;), just in personality alone I should have never doubted it, lol. She is what she is, a long nose, big eared teapot and I wouldn't have her any other way!!! She's not registered (although her parents are) as she is for pet only and I didn't see the need. Her hair grows quite fast (I think anyway, but I've never owned a dog that needed to be clipped before... it's always been Great Danes and Rotweillers) and the hair on her legs is growing right along with the rest of it. She is still a pup so she's still growing into her hair (that's what I tell everyone) and now I'll tell them that " the uninformed often confuse the two. Natural variation is a wonderful thing and I love her uniqueness" as well.... it's perfect! Thank you. Thank you for the wonderful comments on the photos too... I had so much fun shooting my two beautiful girls. I love this site!!!! You all rock!!! |
She is a cutie either way! lol I know what you mean though, and I dont think people are trying to be mean or rude I think that they are just curious about them because the breed goes beyond just the standard. Either way yorkie or silky they both are cute! |
