Actually this last guy was rude about it and I think that's why I was so upset. He said that my breeder lied to me and that there was no way she was yorkie. He said that an owner "should know alittle about thier breed" and that I threw my money away if I was looking for a good Yorkshire Terrier, cause I ended up with a bad Silky terrier.
Needless to say, I WON'T be using him again! The others... they just ask "is she a Silky?" and I know they are just asking and it doesn't bother me....much ;)
Thanks for the reassurance everyone.... even if she is a "bad yorkie" I LOVE every inch of her.

Wow! I had no idea there was a breed so similar to the Yorkie. From what I gather they were bred from Yorkies. right? Your baby looks as Yorkie as any other Yorkie I've seen. A realy cutie!!:D

I think you have a NORMAL-SIZED yorkie...mine is 13.5 lbs. and we get the questions also and sometimes I go into the history and explain why the dogs have been bred so tiny and have become less healthy (people want tiny pets). I have met a 22 lb. Yorkie who was as cute as could be...does anyone know of a bigger one???? I love them all and just ask people to think of the health of the animal and their quality of life vs. the "tiny" factor.....

You have a yorkie :) I have one of each. Max, my silky has a bigger face he has a larger more round mussel . Ivy, my yorkie is bigger in the back end she loves to eat :p But her face is a lot smaller.

I continue to be amazed at how many people get these breeds confused.

As some of you know, I show Silkies for conformation and at EVERY show I get comments on my "pretty yorkies".

I have 3 yorkies who look of dubious lineage....one is 14# floppy ears, thick beautiful red coat, one ~6.5# shaped like a fire plug, one ear up one ear down, one string bean~9# floppy ears scraggly coat.
I don't care they are my world. When people ask I tell them, they are yorkies..I must have a 'don't mess with me' look cause no one disputes it.

She is definetly yorkie, I use to breed Silky;s and they are very similar, some people can't tell them a part, but I can. she is a YORKIE..........

I wonder if my Sophie is part or all Silky...she has a very pointed snout.

I think this could be taken offensively to those of us out there with smaller Yorkies. FYI, the breed standard is less than 7 lbs. and has been for many, many, many years (I'd have to read again to be sure, but late 1800's the standard was under 9 lbs. I think, though they had categories for under 6 and under 4 too I believe--those numbers could be off by 1 or 2). Bigger Yorkies (greater than 7 lbs.) are still ALL Yorkie and still just as adorable....they're just "off standard", which IMO doesn't mean much unless you plan to show. But again, if we're talking a litter of 2-ish lb'ers than your statement holds true.....some "breeders" irresponsibly breed for tinies (and some tinies are just runts). Bella is 4.5 lbs. and I think she's perfect! Some people say, "she's so tiny!" or "is she a teacup then?" and I just tell them that she is the standard size--less than 7 lbs--and there is no such thing as teacup. Some people say, "she's a bigger Yorkie then" and I just tell them no, she's an appropriate size...if they've seen smaller Yorkies, they are probably just runts of the litter. Uneducated people (and by that I mean in the breed) always seem to have SOMETHING to say. But I just view what they say in the exact same way I view what other people say about topics they know nothing about....just plain old ignorance!! (meaning, they don't know any better, so ignore it!) :D

Ther are some Yorkies on here that are 20lbs, what should we do with them,just get rid of them,they are small dogs and why does size matter so much.Mine is 9and 1/2 lbs and so far she is very healthy. I will be taking her to her vet very soon for her 2 yr.old checkup.The staff that works there love her, she has such a sweet disposition.I love this size she is very petite and very healthy,no problems thank God.

The breed standard of a yorkie is 5to7lbs.that is for show, not for pet

it all just goes back to that WONDERFUL natural diversity I was talking about.

I walk my "teapot" and my "teacup" together and love them both! even though there is a 15 pound difference, their personalities are so similiar, and so very, very Yorkie!

isn't it great we have such range in our dogs? My dad's is just at 3 pounds and I adore him, I have one of the bigger furbutts on here with Hamish, who I have carted with me all over the world, and I love all the yorkies in between.

Wouldn't it suck to have ordinary dogs? :rolleyes:

:p I love your answer, that's great.:thumbup: Take a look at my albums, I have 6 and they all look different, except the two small ones they look alike for now.All have AKC papers as Yorkies. My Harley is 16 plus pounds has a longer snout and big ears. Rita is 6 yrs old and I swear she has the face & eyes of a pug, and very tiny ears, and perfect Yorkie Coloring of Gold and steel. Her face is kind of smushed in and very short snout, she weighs 6 lbs and is very short leg wise. Scooter is 1 1/2, weighs 5 lbs, very light on head, legs, belly, almost white, small ears, average snout. Each different in thier own looks, but love'em just the same!:D

They're just like humans, all of them have slightly different faces, that's what makes them unique :)

Stella's left ear stands up straight, but her right ear has the point folded over just a little bit sometimes. And the groomer told me how to fix it and shaved it for me, but I think I like her uniqueness. I'll always know it's her :)

HI It's almost impossible to know if it's a silky from just looking. Go with what the breeder told you. Everybody has an a different thing to say and they don't know what they are talking about. Why would the breeder lie to you. Don't listen to these groomers because they don't know what they are talking about.

Okay I'm confused, Chelsea on her papers said she a yorkie type??? Now don't get mad but I didn't buy her from Petland before I know better. So I kinda thought she was a silky, she has a small face short nose, big ears, long body and short leg, her hair wouldn't grow to the floor it thin, she's 6lbs and overweight. I thought I read somewhere on YT that described her. Now I'm not sure what she is a Yorkie or a Silky. But heck I love her anyways and she has a wonderful life with me, my brother and sister-in-law. By the way ignore the groomer what the heck does he know....nothing....but grooming.

Silky's are beautiful too. I bred them, I had the Mom and Dad and bred them 3 times,she had 6 each litter and we kept one out of each litter,they are wonderful too,but mine had more health problems,thats why I bought a Yorkie,my first Yorkie, she was 5 ilbs.and didn't have any problems with her.

Trust me. She is a yorkie! And that is coming from someone who has owned both a silky and a yorkie;)

Whwn you bought the puppy, was she sold as a yorkie,if this breeder is selling silkya for yorkie WHY? why doesn't she just breed yorkies. I would just drop it,I say she is yorkie and she is beautiful,she is a pet yorkie not a show yorkie.forget about it and enjoy your puppy.

I have to say, that a couple months ago, someone posted on my profile that my dog isnt a yorkie, she is silky, and that i should look her up on the internet! how rude is that!?

first off all, i know my dogs parents, and they are yorkies!

FYI, I looked at Chelsea's pics on your page....she is a complete DOLL!!! And she is definitely all Yorkie too! What a sweet, sweet little face!!
