| Tricky Baby After Addie finishes going potty outside, she will race to the patio, but then she'll dawdle and not come in. So I thought I would be clever and dangle a treat in front of her so she'd get the hint to immediately come in after going potty. Well, I failed. Now she scratches on the door (which she never does when she wants to go potty) throughout the day. When I let her out, she lies down in the sun for a bit and then stands at the door. But she won't come in because she's expecting a treat. I love how it takes forever to teach her a trick, but she not only got that one down in record time but also learned how to "beat the system."

| Yes, I know how you feel. Stella "reverse trained" us after I taught her the "off" command for getting her to take her paws off the coffee table/couch/chair and sit down nicely. Well, now I swear she stands up on anything she can push up against just so I can tell her "off" and she'll get a treat, because before I even finish saying off she's on the floor already wagging her tail and waiting for her treat. So, I'm gonna have to start being tricky and only giving her a treat some of the time so she'll stop doing that. Tricky little dog. I'm just impressed she learned how to do that in less than a week. |

| Haha, that's too funny. I bet she decided to dawdle outside in the first place so that mommy would think of a way to get her inside with the treat. Not only did she beat the system, she invented it and let mommy believe that she did. LOL It's like playing a game of chess with these little ones.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Roxy has started doing this same type of things. A few days ago she grabbed dhs cell phone off a stand while he was busy in kitchen. She raced out her doggie door at the speed of a bullet with it. She knows the phone is a 'leave it' item. He started yelling at her & followed her outside. He got so p***ed & came back in. Once I got my shoes on, I went out for a diversion game to get the phone. She was on her way back into the house & phone laying at foot of the steps. If he wasn't going to chase her, where's the game? A couple days later I went to put her collar on after a bath. She grabbed it out of my hand sooo quick, ran for her doggie door again. I didn't follow her right away. Next thing I know, the collar laid on the floor by my chair. Ahhh, so that's the secret now. Ignore & there's no game. Of course next week it will be something different I'm sure. lol I'm also trying to train dh to not get so upset & yell. I think that's my biggest challenge. : )

| LOL Training men is much harder than training dogs IMO.

| They are so funny , and very clever ! Both my darlings take off with a forbiddin object , and as soon as I catch up to one of them, they turn around the other way, and run . My brother was here today , and was on ther other side to "catch the puppy " who had a piece of paper towel in her mouth ,she could not go anywhere , she nearly bit him, at 11 weeks old, she's very fiesty . All over a paper towel Suzi has been teaching Miley naughty behaviors! shame on the two of them !

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Yes, men much harder!!! lol He used to be the most patient man I've ever met. Major health issues in recent years has changed him a lot. I've never been patient, & have had to dig down deep for huge amounts of it. It helps with Roxie though. lol She keeps me laughing & I can keep my sense of humor about all of her creativity. Dh just doesn't get it! lol

Oh, and Stella will steal the empty cardboard paper towel rolls out of the recycling. She loves the noise they make when she drops them on the floor (even though they're just as big or bigger than her!). Last edited by hillies; 07-13-2009 at 08:26 PM. | |

| my little "goat" Ok, glad to hear that others suffer from the tissue, paper towl and reciept problem. In my house the CAT helps Fergus out by knocking papers off my desk for him to run off and chew! I told my breeder she lied and he is part GOAT! He loves anything paper! and you are right, good thing he is so cute! Kate |

| And I thought I was the only one with a yorkie that shredded paper--she also loves to go thru the trash and get q-tips. |

| Oh my gosh. I can relate to everyone! I don't think that's a good thing, though. What is really bad is when it rains a lot and causes all the little worms to crawl up on the patio. Ewwwwww. I'll take Addie out to potty, and then she'll decide after she's done she wants to be chased around the backyard. So she'll grab a dead, dried worm and run as fast as her little legs can carry her. I don't even have to chase her around the yard anymore. I just pretend to and she runs soooo fast. Thankfully, she will drop the dead worm in the grass during her run because she's so excited. Unlucky for me, there are a lot of dead worms on the patio after it rains so she's got many more to choose from. Eh. I figure it's good exercise for her. Disgusting ... but, if it's not dead worms, it's something else. And Addie loves receipts. I have to make sure I stick them somewhere she can't reach, and I have to check under all the beds often. She'll grab one and then race under the bed so I don't notice it. Later when I'm busy doing something else, she'll go back to her little gold mine and chew and tear away. So sometimes when I finally check under the bed, there's shredded paper everywhere. She's already torn the mattress tag to shreds.
