Senior Yorkie Talker | Fireworks KILL! I know this site is strictly for Yorkies and their owners (of which I am). That being said, I need advice PLEASE! How to comfort/help my Mom?! She is absolutely heartbroken, worse than any of us has ever seen her over anything! Mom is and always has been a very strong person but this has just undone her! My mom's beautiful Bichon, Heidi, who has been a member of our family for more than 10 years, was recently killed in a tragic accident! Heidi was always afraid of fireworks (the loud noises and the flashes). My moms awful neighbor set them off every year, including the illegal ones. Well this year was no different. Around 10:30 pm, my Dad figured it was over as it had been quiet for awhile. Heidi had to go potty so Dad took her out in the back yard but forgot her leash as she had to go so badly. WELL...the stupid neighbors set off a huge firework that actually momentarily blinded my Dad and sent Heidi running in terror before Dad could grab her!! She was gone all night, my parents, brother & sister in law, several friends and neighbors were all out looking for her all night. I would have been too but I live too far away. She was found by one of the friends who went to get my mom to "i.d" her body...in the middle of the damn highway! My mom is so devastated!! She ran into the middle of the road and physically blocked traffic (idiots would not stop and kept running over Heidi even as my mom was screaming) so Dad could get her! Dad believed that Heidi had hidden in the woods and was coming out to get home when it happened. I've written to Mom, listened to her tears over the phone and sent her card and flowers. Mom was over the moon with Heidi, completly trained her herself, Heidi would wipe her feet when she came indoors after going potty, she would go to the bathroom so Mom could clean her up, she even played soccer with the grandkids and my Dad. I don't know what to do! The whole family is really concerned about my Mom as am I. Please, your suggestions are desperately needed. Sorry this is so long...but we are all so crushed by the loss of Heidi and sooooo worried about my Mom!!

| I'm in tears reading this I'm soooo sorry for your mom's loss. It hits home with me because when I was about 11, my dog ran out the front door and as I was trying to chase her down I saw her get hit by a car. I wish I had better advice but I think it just takes time to heal from. I definitely think she just needs people around her who care and understand what she is going through.

| Omg, what a tragic way to lose your pet! I am just so sorry for your family especially, your poor Mom to have to mourn the loss of Heidi! I don't know because I haven't experienced this yet...but, I know any loss is painful but, when it's unexpected & as tragic as this was I think your Mom's reactions are normal. Because of the magnitude of discovering Heidi the way she did...I wouldn't be surprised if she is not having some kind of post traumatic stress-type reaction. My heart just goes out to your Mom and please tell her I will keep her in my thoughts & prayers! May sweet Heidi R.I.P. somewhere over the

| I'm very sorry for your loss. I think maybe your parents need to talk to the neighbors until they really understand. if not, then i suggest next 4th call the police when they light the illegal ones. Again, my condolences. RIP Heidi

Senior Yorkie Talker | Thank you all for your kindness, I just can't help be worried about Mom. I grieve the loss of Heidi too, but it's more that I can feel my Moms pain and I know I can't help. I guess it's a good thing in a way that I don't live nearby as I know the neighbors and I would probably be in jail about now for the revenge that I would exact.

| Wow, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine the horror of seeing your baby ran over again and again. Getting over the death of a baby is never easy. Some people don't understand these sweethearts are just like one of our kids. Just be there for her to lend an ear so she can talk, grieve and shed tears. If it get to bad you might see if you can get her to see a doctor. We can never replacement a loss baby but maybe at some point down the road, when her heart heal some. Maybe you can help her find a new baby to love and it may help fill a little of the void left in her heart. Hugs to you all in your time of sorrow. Rip Little Heidi |

Thor's Human Donating Member | I'm so sorry too. It always hurts losing someone you love, and time is the only thing that closes the wound at all. Later, when your mom has had some time to recover, she will remember the ten wonderful years she had with Heidi. While it is awful that your mom had to see Heidi's body, I would take some comfort (much later) in knowing that her death was probably instantaneous. My thoughts are with you, your mom, and beautiful Heidi.

| I am so sorry for your lost. All my condolences. I don't think anything will make you mom feel better... But maybe you can bring a nice picture of Heidi to an artiste that do pet portrait and give it to your mom. Just a thought. And when ever she is ready.. get her a yorkie puppy. He won't replaced Heidi but it will fill up a little bit of the emptiness... Big Hug |
