| crate problems Hi I've been putting my Yorkie in his crate since he was a puppy. He is a year old now. He only goes in when I have to go out and when it's bedtime. He still doesn't like it. At bedtime I have to chase him around so I can put him to bed. Once there he's very good, no problem. Daytime is another problem, he will bark and carry on. I'm thinking of relocating his crate. It's in the laundry room now and I was going to put it in the tv room where I hang out most of the time. Do you think this will make the problem worse. I don't know what else to try. He gets into everything so I have to crate him for his own safety when I'm not around. Any suggestions? |

| We crated him until he was about 7-8 months. Then,we got a couple expens and used them to block off part of the room so that he would have plenty of room to run and play. I think you might want to think about the expens. Also, we have always had him in the living room which is where we are all the time. When we go to bed we move the expen into our room, with his bed. We set up stairs next to the bed to allow him to walk down into the bed which is in the expen and this gives him the option to sleep with us or move around. He was much happier in the expend then the crates. Here is the link to what we used. Portable Exercise Pens: Precision Pet Pro Handler Indoor Outdoor Exercise Pens at PETCO We got the 36 height. We got two so it gave us more versatility. The panels open up completely so you can use it like a fence too. Good luck. |

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | You need to work out why he doesn't like it.At one point Tia didn't like to go in hers and I found out the crate was giving her little electric shocks every time she entered it As it turned out her hair was static after brushing and thats what was causing it. I now use anti static shampoo and put her crate on a rubber mat.Now she goes in with no problem.

| crate problems Is the crate for daytime large enough to hold a little bed as well as a piddle pad, food and water? We used a travel bassinette for our little one, and he had room to move around, eat, sleep and still piddle. Shobi has now figured out how to climb out of it, so we have moved on to confining him to a rabbit hutch on stilts for his bedtime crate (he is housetrained so he can run around during the day). The rabbit hutch puts him up on the same level as our bed, and he likes to be able to see us at night. If your little one is confined all day, perhaps use a bathroom so there is more room for him to run around and still have room to sleep, eat and do his business. Good luck! |

| I crate the three littles here for their safety. They range in age from 1.5# (new tiny poodle someone lost their house) to the greys at 80#. Tho the greys are muzzled when I leave, I don't want the littles stepped on. So CRATE! I give them a nice chew stick and some chicken treats. The have no problem going in crate. I say CRATE and they are there. I NEVER use the crate as punishment!!!

| I love my expen. Her food, water, pad and bed are all in there. If I need to leave I know she's safe and has everything she needs. |

| We crated Toby from the day we got him when we weren't home. At night, he sleeps with us in our bed. His crate is for extra large dogs and he has his bed, blanket, toy, food, water, and plenty of room to walk around and stretch. We also keep it in a high traffic area of the house where he can see everything. We only had a problem the first day we left him in it. I just think it was because it was something new. He is now a year and a half and has gotten to the point where he can stay out of it when we are gone and he is fine. I swear he just lays in one spot and sleeps the whole time he's alone. The trick we found that helped to get him in it was to give him a treat once he went in. It worked so well that even now when he doesn't have to go in, as soon as he knows we're leaving and sees the treat he'll go in. They are smart little buggers! Hope this helps!
