| ![]() If the chocolate was only on the outside he wiill be fine. Milk is also quite a bit safer than dark.

| ![]() My monkey-climbing dog Ben, got into my son's Easter basket and ate two of those little foil covered chocolate eggs before he was caught in the act. He did manage to get the foil spit out. We watched him all day and he never had a bad reaction. I say this cautiously though as every dog is different. Some have GI problems for weeks over a different brand of food. So, take the advice given, call the vet for reassurance and keep your eye out for a job with a more understanding boss. ![]()

| ![]() Thank you everyone for your replys. Those little devils can find just about anything in the house! even things that have been lost for months lol. I will call my vet, somtimes I'm hesitant to call them. No matter what the issue they ALWAYS suggest bringing them in, which in turn will cost me 75 dollars for a visit haha. |

| ![]() Bailey got two reeses peanut butter cups once and onion pieces (not at the same time of course) both time he was fine, but I was scared to death! I agree all dogs react different. Now whenever anyone is eating or cooking Bailey has to stay in his bed! ![]()

| ![]() I'm sure he'll be fine. It's not that much chocolate. Years ago my BF, who didn't know any better, fed an entire chocolate bar to my 8 lb Toy Poodle while trying to teach him a trick and other than some loose stool, he was fine. My BF on the other hand was in lots of trouble. Last edited by camile; 07-10-2009 at 10:01 AM. |

| ![]() a vet that ALWAYS says bring them in?! That's got to be annoying. My vet always says unless it's serious, try this or that and watch and see then call us back if it gets worse or nothing changes and we'll go from there. haha I bet you're baby will be fine. I caught my guys devouring a chocolate frosty someone left on the table (yeah they are bad doggies and get on the table when we're not looking haha) and they were all fine. Like everyone else said, every dog is different though. I'm sure you're baby will be fine.

| ![]() Hah yeah they always tell me to bring them in.. I think its just a way to get money out of someone even if the dog is fine... maybe I need a new vet lol. Ugh well I got my fingers crossed that hes fine. I was a wreak this morning! haha I felt bad because he thought I was mad with him ![]() Hearing all these other small pup stories getting into chocolate and being fine reassures me. ![]() |

I was either out of the room or out of the house (can't remember exactly) and somebody dropped an open container of those Queen Anne rich chocolate cherry things. I don't know how many she ate but she threw up like 8 times. I had less than zero idea what I was doing back then, so we did nothing and she ended up being just fine...probably because she puked it all out. ![]()

YT Addict | ![]() Im pretty sure he will be ok it was a Carmel chocolate you said. It doesn't have a high content of chocolate in it. Me and my boyfriend are huge chocolate eaters and try to be so careful for the dogs wont get to it. but they did because they get into everything .my boyfriend left a whole snickers bar MIlk chocolate on a table and I walked in the room and half of it was gone. I freaked out!!!!! I was debating on taking her to the vet but i decided to wait a bit and see if she started puking or started looking sick and nothing. She was fine. I think its because it wasnt dark chocolate and it wasnt all chocolate it was a snickers it had peanuts and carmel so she didnt digest that much theobromine. |

YT Addict | ![]() Chocolate can indeed be toxic to dogs. In fact, it is one of the 20 most reported poisonings. The ingredient in chocolate that causes the toxicity is theobromine. The minimum toxic level of theobromine is 100-200mg/kg with 250-500mg/kg being the level at which half of the dogs would die as a result of consuming chocolate. So what does that mean as far as how much chocolate is toxic? The level of theobromine varies depending on the type of chocolate. The levels of theobromine are listed below: Milk chocolate 60 mg/oz Baking chocolate 450 mg/oz Semi-sweet chocolate 260 mg/oz Hot chocolate 12 mg/oz White chocolate 1 mg/oz Given these levels, 4 oz of milk chocolate contains about 240mg of theobromine. Considering that the average chocolate bar contains 2-3 oz of milk chocolate, it would take 2-3 candy bars to produce toxicity in a 10 lb dog. However, a single ounce of baking chocolate could produce severe toxicity in the same size dog. |

| ![]() Back when I didn't know so much about small dogs/chocolate and stuff, my mini-dachshund ate a whole box of chocolate covered cherries that were under the Christmas Tree...Yep, she unwrapped the present and gave it to herself...Anyway, she weighed about 7 or 8 lbs. and she threw up and had diareah for 3 or 4 days...It never occured to me that she could die, and she didn't...So I think a couple of chocolate covered caramels will be o.k...And you're probably home, by now, and your baby is o.k...I just got home from work, that's why I'm thinking you might be too... |
