This may seem like a silly question, but I really have no idea. Is there a fee associated with transporting a Yorkie via air travel in the cabin? If so, what is the general cost difference between cabin travel with a passenger, and in cargo?

On my airline(s) (I work for NWA/Delta), it is $75-80 each way for a pet to travel as carry-on in the cabin.

Now, this is the reason I asked this question. As I browse these forums every day I find myself often struck with immense sadness and tears as I read about various Yorkies that are in need of rescue, yet they may be too far away for those who are interested in adopting them. Or the shipping costs are too high. So I had the CRAZIEST idea just now. I am a flight attendant and I fly for free, anywhere I want. I started wondering how feasible it would be to fly out to rescue these babies and get them to whomever wants to adopt them? So basically it would only cost $75-80 to get them to their new home, as they would only be on one flight segment. I swear, I cry every day when I read posts about yet another poor baby that needs a home, but is not local to anyone, etc. I almost feel like I HAVE to do something in those situations. My heart keeps breaking.

Is this in any way even possible? Or am I sounding like an idiot?? I really, really want to do something!!!!

United charges $150 each way..thats disgustingly high

Ugh, I was wrong. NWA is also $150 one way. I must have been looking at outdated info.

I'm gonna try to see if employees get discounts on pet travel.

That would be an excellent idea if you are able to do it! I don't see why they charge so much. I would love to travel with my boys. I am originally from MI and to take them both home it would be $600! So add that to me and the fiance's airfare we are talking over 1K ridiculous!

Wow, what a great way to use your "perks" from work!!! That would be so neat if you could do that....... and maybe mention to them what your plan is...... you may get the pet fare waived since you work there!

Woo Hoo!!! I just found out that effective last month they are no longer charging employees a fee for pets traveling in the cabin!

I was just going tell you this!!! My Hubby works for Mesaba/Delta and now we don't have to pay!!!!!
