BANNED FOR NOT SENDING A GIFT EXCHANGE GIFT! | is this spoiled or mommy is weak? ok so i am trying to get Denzel to switch to a wholelistic food nutro. he is currently on iams this is the food the breeder had him on. i went to buy some of the nutro products. silly mommy didnt know you have to gradually introduce baby to the food little by little so i just gave him a half cup of the nutro chicken and rice and baby threw up. so i went back to iams. i bought him some of there crunchy apple treats Mmmm smells good enough for even mommy to eat hahaha so anyway he wont eat them i went as far as to even trick him and put a treat in his food bowl and mix it up but baby just finds the treat and take it out the bowl. he wont even eat it so i leave there and the next morning its there so i throw the treat away and start fresh but i havent gotten far. i want denzel to eat fruit treats just as well as the food. he eats the nutro meat treats but wont eat the food or the fruit treats any suggestions? because i want him to eat whats best for him and not what he wants |

| Dogs, like us, have very personal likes and dislikes. Some are picky eaters, some not so much. The trick is finding good things that they will actually eat. You may have to try a different brand. Change his food over gradually so that it doesn't upset his tummy. Treats - well he'll either like them or not. There's not much you can do to make him eat them if he doesn't like them. Boo can be very suspicious of new foods. He'll study on it long and hard before he'll even attempt a tiny taste. The look on his face you just know he's thinking I've offered him something poisonous. Having the other two gobble down treats and food usually helps him to come around to trying it. Yogi has never met a food he wouldn't eat. He'll gobble anything it right down and then decide if he liked it or not. After eating it the funniest look will come on his face, "Oh Momma! What was that? It was icky!" But the little doofus will gobble down another bite if offered. Keep trying, you'll eventually find a treat he likes.

YT 1000 Club Member | As far as treats go...Roxie is really picky too. She loves the beef Pup-peronies. I tried to switch things up once and got the chicken flavor. She spit it out on the floor and sniffed it and just never got as excited about that flavor as the beef. She will not eat anything that's hard and crunchy like those milkbone things. The drive thru people will always send one out to her at the bank and she turns her face away from them and leaves them lay. They are as hard as bricks. The softer chewier treats are more pleasant. The other day I bought a new kind which was called soft and chewie Buddy Biscuits. She wouldn't touch them. I also bought her some things called Breathies and she lovesssss those. Just keep trying different treats untill you find one your little one enjoys. It might take a few to hit the right one.

| They can be picky -- I have had dozens of treats that none of my dogs like. Try some of those tiny baby carrots (the real baby carrots not the big ones pared down). Mine don't like many fruit type items either. The puppies would eat the apple air puffed treats for human babies. But no one seems to like them now. They love most cereal like Cheerios & kix. They also love Yogurt drops & chicken jerky tenders. Try chattiesmom's Yorkie Yummies. They are very nutritious, she has meat, veggie, and fruit flavors, and all of our Yorkies seem to love them. Mine especially like the carrot & banana flavors. I especially like that they are already in tiny little pieces that I don't have to break up. I like to keep treats tiny so they can have a few a day without ruining their appetite for their dog food.

| Great advice above. I think there are a lot better foods out there than Nutro. Nutro has been recalled many many times and the ingredients aren't the greatest, especially for the price. But just gradually switch whatever food you choose to switch to Jackson loves Innova.

| It sounds like he has the right idea. Please Google "Consumer Affairs Nutro." There are many reports of dogs getting sick and dying while eating this food. While I don't normally recommend Iams, if these are your only two choices, I'd go with the Iams. How about Wellness, Innova, Natural Balance?

I know what you mean. They are so smart! Princess hates peanut butter so I just had to quit buying anything w/it. Not sure if Prince like it...although he is like Mickey he will eat anything!

Thor's Human Donating Member | Yorkies can be VERY picky eaters. My dog has very refined tastes. Even my food is not good enough for him sometimes! I think Iams has a lot of grease on the food to make it tastier -- dogs are like humans - it will take him a while to get used to a more nutritious food. I also recommend you try another food altogether. We're having some success with Spot's Stew. If you keep him on nutritious, relatively lower flavor foods, then his palate will change and those will taste better. That being said, there are limits! Thor loves Breathies also, dehydrated lamb lumg treats, Solid Gold small jerky treats, and yorkie yummies. He'd rather die than eat a Zuke's treat. Keep trying, you'll find stuff he loves.
