| Meeting people So, I seem to have gotten the Yorkie with the "I love everyone" personality (vs. the deeply attached to only me personality) which is great, except for on walks she will greet another person's dog a little too enthusiastically because she doesn't realize the other dog might not like her so much, and then she'll try to jump up on the owner. I tell her to sit (which she will always do when we're home), but she's deaf for my requests at that point. Has anyone else had to deal with this? I need her to meet the other dogs and people because we only have her at home and she's still a puppy (5 months) so socialization is definitely needed, but I'm not sure the best way to go about teaching her to be a bit more calm for her own good, and so other the other dog owners in the neighborhood don't start avoiding us. |

| My Roscoe is like that too! At home, I am his mommy and he is my shadow, but out, he loves everybody. It scares me too because if he gets away from me, he just takes off to anyone he sees! I am anxious to hear some great advice on this also!

| milu loves people too. she is always VERY excited to meet people. i would hold on to her leash, and ask the person if it was ok for milu to say hello to them and/or their dog. and if they say ok, i will let milu approach them. milu usually will kind of jump up and put her paw on them if they are not petting her. but if they are petting her, she will just sit down. most people are ok with her jumping. they think it's cute. but you can try to tell your dog. ah-ah and tug on a leash a little bit(not hard of course) if you don't want her to jump. and tell her "good girl" if she just sits nicely for pets.

| She'll very likely outgrow some of this. A lot of her excitement, right now, is "puppyhood driven". Just know that for right now, when you see someone approaching you'll need to get your hands on her to get her to focus & listen to you. Give a little tug and say what you say to her to get her to stop doing something. Then when you tell her to sit, you'll probably have to actually hold her and help her to 'remember' what sit is. Then, like yorkiepuppie said, ask the other person if it's ok for her to greet them. Try to keep her somewhat under control, don't let her just explode all over them with a greeting. She'll start to realize that sitting quietly will get her what she wants quicker and that jumping and acting crazy is not acceptable behavior. But she is still a puppy and has that wonderful puppy outlook and enthusiasm, just be firm, consistent and give her some more time to grow up.
