| Bringing home another Yorkie for playmate? We have had Gracie for 9 months. She is just a year old. She is our only pet . She is very spoiled and an attention junky. We are thinking about getting another Yorkie so she can have a playmate, but concerned how she will be with another dog. Of course, we are hoping the breeder will give us a trial period to see if they get along. We would be getting another female and she would be 12 weeks old and should grow to be about the same size our Gracie is. She has the same father as Gracie, but different mother. Basically, her half sister would be coming to live with us. Can you tell me about your experiences if you introduced a second pet into the household or any advice? Thanks, Heather |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | How exciting! Let's see, when I brought home my Gracie, Chester was around 11 months. He wouldn't look at me or speak to me for a couple of days then he got over it and actually loved playing with her. When I got Rebel, Chester accepted him right away. Gracie was a little apprehensive for a few days...snapping at him, growling at him, etc. Now, her and Rebel are best buds. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do!

| I have a male and a female. They have the same dad too but different moms. I had my male 1st. He really enjoyed having a new addition but he was only 3 months old when we got her. I think when the dogs are a little older it takes an adjustment period. I would just try to introduce them in aneutral area and let them get aquainted. Dont try to force anything. Good luck its great having two yorkies.

| Congratulations, Heather! We are finally getting the opportunity to try and socialize Toto with other animals and it's very difficult. She was 2 in July so perhaps it's her age and the fact that she is a spoiled "Angel Brat"!! We are actually hoping to adopt a little rescue but she won't be ready for quite a while. Meantime ... her sweet Foster Mom and I are are working with them both and maybe with the help of a bunch of Yorkies & a sweet Poodle we can make progress. So far Toto acts like "Miss Snotski" and won't play with anyone but we are going to try some "play dates" with maybe one-on-one and see if they will interact! From what I am observing with Toto, it's much better to let them do this on their own, although I do get the urge to shove her in the group when they are all playing and she's sitting there all by herself! We did make a little progress last time by taking a few of her toys along and encouraged everyone to play and she actually did a little! I would say that it probably won't happen overnight but you have a great opportunity by getting a baby and especially a little half sister! Good luck and please let us know your decision and how it goes?
